Melanin
Melanin theorist Carol Barnes writes in his book Melanin: The Chemical Key to Black Greatness:
Melanin is responsible for the existence of civilization, philosophy, religion, truth, justice, and righteousness. Individuals (whites) containing low levels of Melanin will behave in a barbaric manner. Melanin gives humans the ability to FEEL because it is the absorber of all frequencies of energy. Since whites have the least amount of Melanin, this is why they are perceived by People of Color as generally being rigid, unfeeling (heartless), cold, calculating, mental, and âunspiritual.â[11]
Mainstream white society brushes âmelanin theoryâ off as âpseudoscience"Â
Melanin theory is a pseudoscientific theory, founded in the distortion of the known physical properties of melanin, a natural polymer and organic semiconductor.[1] In humans, melanin is the primary determinant of skin color. People whose ancestors lived for long periods in the regions of the globe near the equator generally have larger quantities of eumelanin in their skins. Melanin theorists assert that the possession of greater quantities of melanin causes an inherent superiority of black people. Conversely, its lack demonstrates the alleged inhumanity and inferiority of white people. Some black supremacists justify supremacist assertions by assigning dubious properties to melanin based on pseudoscience and distortions of scientific fact or speculation. Scientists consider melanin theory pseudoscience; it has no credibility in mainstream medicine or science.[2][3]

Which Do YOU believe??
What it was that seemed to move me was that learning was important. Iâd never thought that before. When I was in high school⌠I asked myself at one point: âWhy do I care if my high schoolâs team wins the football game? I donât know anybody on the team, they have nothing to do with me⌠why am I here and applaud? It does not make any sense.â But the point is, it does make sense: Itâs a way of building up irrational attitudes of submission to authority and group cohesion behind leadership elements. In fact itâs training in irrational jingoism. Thatâs also a feature of competitive sports.

The thing about texting
So Iâm going through the contacts list on my  phone and Iâm looking at some of these names likeâŚâ who the eff is this.â  I realize that most of these people that I can only vaguely remember how they came to be in my contacts, if I remember them at all, are people with whom our relationship was sustained through mainly texting.  These were people that maybe I thought they were cool or vice versa and we saw the potential for some kind of friendship; hence, they become a âcontact.â
Now, I am totally fine with texting because, itâs just one of those things that people do since, after all, it is the 21st century.  However, the older more mature I become, Iâm beginning to see texting as an annoyance.  I mean, itâs cool from time to time but it is rather impersonal.  I prefer to text my friends that I already know well as opposed to people who I have just met. I tend to get that feeling of â Why is this person texting me? I donât know this (_Insert male/female descriptive noun here_) And no matter how much I want to be like those people who walk around looking at their cell phones all day (I really donât) Letâs just face it, I am just not that person.  I donât do that.  I would rather speak to a person.  What happened to communication, call me old-fashion if you will.
So Iâm looking at these names, to which I cannot attach a face, voice, or personality to them. Â I realize since we never really "spokeâ I just kinda forgot about them. Â And I never really forget people who I come into contact with. Â This was very random, I hope you didnât waste too much of your life to read this.

âMattedâ
Earlier today, today one of my aunts asked me if my hair sheds a lot when I take it down. Â Before I continue telling you anything else, let me state the fact that I have had my hair locâd for 3 years. Â It still makes me feel some type of way when black people know so little about themselves, in this particular case Iâm talking about black hair. Â It was/is obvious that my aunt doesnât understand the process/time that it takes for oneâs hair to form into locs. Â One does not just take locs down and redo them; that is to start the journey completely over. My other aunt responded to her that I didnât take my hair down because it is âmatted.â
When she used the word âmattedâ something just didnât set right with me. Â I immediately did not like the word. Â Itâs not something that I would say to describe my hair. Â Upon hearing it, I think of something dirty and unkempt. Â Thatâs certainly not what my hair is, so I took it upon myself to lookup the definition of the word. So I used Google. I typed the following and this is what I got:
define: Â matted
(esp. of hair or fur) Tangled into a thick mass
- a cardigan of matted gray wool.  adjectiveâ/Ëmatid/â
Twist together into a confused mass
- the broom somehow got tangled up in my long skirtverbâ/ËtaNGgÉl/â
A confused mass of something twisted together
- a tangle of golden hair
Then I thought, okay, perhaps my hair is tangled, but thats just too simple. Â Anything can be tangled, and if thats the case one can manually âlocâ their hair simply by tangling it. Â However, this locing process takes place over time and one does not have to do anything to the hair for it to happen, not even tangle it. Â It is as if the hair is made to do it. Â Also, if one just tangled his or her hair, it would simply not look the same as naturally formed locs. Â The definition of tangled is listed above as well.
Then I thought, what I have on my head is not a confused mass. Â I may be confused about a lot of things, but not my hair. Â It is actually one of the things that I am most certain of. Â The hair knows exactly what to do in order to form the locs.
I looked up the definition of confused and got more of the same descriptions of what MY hair was not. Â So it brings me back to my previous inclination that âmattedâ is not an appropriate word for my hair. Â My hair doesnât fit this description. Â It also brings me to the question of who the hell makes up all these uniformed and many times inaccurate definitions.
