Yankee suwari is definitley Kage's default idle animation. Idk if there's an English term for this, but in Japanese, we call it yankee suwari ヤンキー座り which means 'delinquent sit' I think.

Now I know these two already have canonical character designs, and I honestly think their canon designs are significantly better than mine, I just wanted to attempt designing them to fit how I draw Kage and his parents. I also only had @jinbeizamezama’s first drawing of them to go off of when I first read the story because I didn’t know they drew them more and had more lore to them! So because of that, I just took a crack at designing them in the past so I could picture them better.

Since the lore for shinigami is that they use to be demons, I wanted to represent that a bit more through their skin tone, teeth, and anatomy. I also wanted to give them flasher clothes just for fun and to make them pop a bit more. In my first attempt, I thought Scollex and Ascaris were supposed to look older (like mid to late 20s) but when I discovered what Scollex looked like unmasked, I decided to draw them a little younger looking in my second attempt. I think I still have a preference for my first attempt again because they are a happier medium of looking older than my Kage design but younger than Kage’s parents. I kept Scollex’s eagle tattoo on his chest even though you can’t really see it in either drawing. I also buzzed his hair to make him look more disheveled than his brother and gave him his scars back (˶╥︿╥). My biggest problem had to be their pants because I could not tell what I was going for the first time so I just changed them completely. (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ)

I love their outfits! And good job on the wings, wings are always such a pain to draw (completely understand why you skipped drawing Ascaris's LMAO) Ngl I feel bad you have to use my old, less refined art as references 😂

Here is a lil redraw of my hc abt Kage's face!! The old drawing was from years ago, i don't remember to much but I had decided to do it after seeing @jinbeizamezama drawings (now old) and also after reading Kage's lore, but I probably should reread everything lol

This has been sitting in my Procreate library since 2021… (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

Last summer I read all of @jinbeizamezama’s post on DeviantArt regarding Kagekao with my sister ( @kurstyxscave ) because he’s one of our favorite pastas ᡣ𐭩 and those stories go HARD ˚ˋঌ˖! I wanted to attempt designing them because they don’t have any official art (to my knowledge) and I was in a major character design phase.

The second image is my first attempt from 2021. I added snippets of the actual story with some underlined bits to the side so I could reference it while I work. I really liked how it turned out but I wanted to take Yoruyuki out of the dead mom sweater (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠). I also wanted them to look more noticeably older but still youthful (since demons stop physically aging at some point) because I don’t draw a lot of elderly looking characters. Since she lost all the texture on her shirt, I substituted it by adding a sashiko (a type of Japanese embroidery) flower pattern to make up for it at the bottom of her pants. I also put Kuraitsume in more comfortable looking clothing to match his wife better.

They do differ a little from how they looked in my head when writing (mostly Kurai's complexion is a lot darker, actually darker than Kage's) but differences are to be expected ofc, I never made them any official art. (And if I ever do, they'll probably be very updated from the past)
