I was born in an Arabic household. If you don’t know about Arabic household and there extensive rules and tradition I have no clue why they must follow, then let me enlighten you. I am 21 years old (turning 22 this year) I live with my parents because and I quote “No female should live outside her father’s/husband’s house”. I graduated in summer 2019 and since then I’ve been looking for a job (and it is soooo hard to find one when you have little to no experience) and my family made me turn some jobs only because it isn’t what I majored it (they are right on this one but I wanted to be independent asap and they never supported that:( ). Now, being quarantine with them without being able to go out to have some time away from them, it’s driving me insane. I spend more than half of my day cleaning this house and getting stuff done to my parents. I am aware that I am old enough to do what I want to do and girls like me get that comment a lot. But what you don’t know is that if I rebelled and run away or insisted on moving out I could literally lose my family. They WILL stop talking to me for disobeying them. I tried talking to my mother about MILLIONS of times and it still never changed. Never mind the fact that I hear a lot about girls who got killed by their brothers or fathers for “disobeying them”. Now I think of course my family wont do that, but then I think I am sure these girls thought the same thing. I feel envious of the girls that go out on their own and explore the world by themselves. All I ask is very little I know which is why I feel devastated that life can’t give that much only …
