Still fucks me up that burger is short for hamburger, and thus hamburger is not a portmanteau of ham + burger at all since that would lead into recursion, but instead hamburger is named after the meat patty called a Hamburg steak, named for Hamburg where it was created. "Yeah so hamburgers are a German invention" actually no, the creation of sandwiching a Hamburg steak betwixt bread is a distinctly American invention, so you guys get to keep that. Anyway I think that means any burger without a hamburger patty is not a burger at all, so I've been eating chicken and bacon sandwiches this whole time.

I had never even heard of Hamburg steaks until I saw it in Frieren and then I discover they're a whole thing over here in Japan. There's a place down the road called Steaky Big Boy where we absolutely had to go and we finally tried a Hamburg steak and yeah, they're fine. Pretty good. Probably be better between some bread but yeah.
