Garden starting to look good with the Alliums coming into full bloom
Spring is well under way in the garden. Early plants are still going well and the Hostas are starting to come through. Also had time to sort out a lot of the pots that had been put away for winter. Final job of the night was to sow some Basil and three out of my five pots of salad leaves. Including Lollo Rosso, Rocket and Speedy Mix salad leaf.
I got the day off from work yesterday so I decided to go hiking in the Opal Creek Wilderness in the Oregon Cascades.

It might be winter time but the Hellebores are in full flower #wintergarden
Moving Through Color
These breathtaking tree tunnels are famous in their perspective countries, standing as a testament to time and beauty:
Wisteria Tunnel, Tochigi, Japan - Ashikaga Flower Park in Tochigi is one of the best places to admire different varieties of wisteria.
Dark Hedges, County Antrim, Northern Ireland - This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the 18th century, and is one of the most photographed natural phenomena in the country.
Tunnel of Love, Kleven, Ukraine - This luscious green tunnel provides passage for a private train that provides wood to a local factory. The tunnel is also used by lovers to make a wish – it is said that if they are sincere in their love, their wishes will come true.
Ginkgo Tree Tunnel, Tokyo, Japan - Around 65,000 ginkgo trees line the streets of Tokyo; they are known as “the bearer of hope”, since some of them survived the bombing of Hiroshima. This tree tunnel is located in the outer garden of Meiji Shrine.
Jacarandas Walk, Johannesburg, South Africa - The Jacaranda trees explode into full blossom every October, turning the walk into a purple paradise.
Point Reyes, California, United States - Bishop pine, douglas fir and coast redwood are all to be found in this atmospheric part of the Pacific Coast.
Ashdown Forest, West Sussex, England - Much of the tree cover in the South Downs area was razed thousands of years ago, but some thickly-wooded areas remain.
Sena De Luna, Spain - A small Spanish village in the province of Castile and León, Sena De Luna is home to around 450 people.
No two people’s paths are exactly alike though they may overlap for a good deal of their length.
These remind me of the Tunnels at Alnwick Gardens in Northumberland
Late roses:
Charlotte Brownell. A tough season for this tough subzero rose, but she’s still plugging away and will be back next year.
I should be ashamed for not only losing the tag but forgetting the name of this shocking pink rose that has literally been in bloom all summer without pause.
Burgundy Iceberg has come close in the perpetual blooming category. A rich purple/red are these abundant velvety blooms.
Plant of Interest: White Wood Astor
Masses of white, daisy like flowers are produced from June to October. The flowers of Aster Divaricatus fade to subtle burgundy and rose-pink.
Its ability to thrive in dry shade and its propensity to spread make it a prime ground cover under trees and shrubs. It also adapts to moist soils.
Without stating the obvious, this is what a proper Rose should look like. Smells fantastic too.

The Seasons are changing again so we have a fresh load of new plants showing their faces in The Alnwick Garden. Here’s a blue beauty to catch your eye. The African lily has been grown around the world since the late seventeenth century. Individual plants clump together in large groups, producing flowers on numerous shoots. Agapanthus africanus ’Blue’ has long-stemmed umbels of blue, trumpet-shaped flowers in late summer. We have this flower growing in our Ornamental Garden
