nice
this drizzly 65°F day is making me ridiculously campsick bc it's the kinda day that wouldve been perfect at camp... no thunder so you can stay outside and it's only drizzling a little bit so you won't get many complainers of wetness™... we'd even be breaking out the sweatshirts. then if the rain gets heavier or it thunders we'd shuffle the kids into the dining hall and we'd watch a movie (a DCOM if the counselors gave anything to say about it) or three but otherwise it's a beautiful reprieve from the scorching heat

“A kiss may be grand, but it won’t pay the rental, on your humble flat, or help you at the automat.”
Like literally the most famous song about how much girls love jewellry is just explaining the importance of getting jewellry for when your partner leaves you penniless and alone.
The founder of Girl Scouting in the US, Juliette Gordon Low, funded her first troop by selling her pearl necklace, which was her only belonging after her husband died and left everything to his mistress.
She founded Girl Scouts to teach girls self-sufficiency so they wouldn’t have to go through what she went through when her husband died and she didn’t know how to take care of herself.
While we’re on the subject, let’s please also remember that historically disenfranchised communities who had to worry about frequently being run out of town often bought expensive jewelry with their limited funds not because they were greedy or tacky or classless, but rather because you can’t sew a real estate investment into the lining of your coat, and the powers that be can’t freeze a diamond necklace the way that they can freeze a bank account.
This is also why police try to steal things like jewelry from minorities and women in order to prevent women and minorities from being able to recover from america’s latest regime
if i learned one thing at girl scout camp it's that you gotta be a little silly. it's good for the soul
no one:
literally no one:
the camp director in 2021: hmmmm we have two day camp assistant unit leaders and we need to send one of them to horse camp… which one should i make the horse camp counselor? should it be the one who’s mildly afraid of horses? or the horse girl?… yeah definitely the one who’s mildly afraid of horses
do you wanna buy a duck is such a bizarre concept for a game and yet it works so well… like what do you mean you all stand in a line repeating the same script over and over again? and it’s actually a fun game? i love do you wanna buy a duck
ok so i’m making the stamps for the thanks-a-lots and in doing so i’m using a cube for it so i have spots for six languages... from what i’ve gathered in my research™ (google images) the original thanks-a-lots had english (thank you), spanish (gracias), french (merci), swahili (asante), and also "msem msem" which... i cannot for the life of me figure out which language that is. google translate says it's igbo for "smile smile" when i hit "detect language" but also google is kinda bogged down by genai these days so idk if i trust that... i also swear i remember mandarin being one of the languages but i can't find evidence of it... anyways please help i can't decide what language i want to do for the extra slot (or two extra slots if i can't figure out what language msem msem is)
like obviously the og thanks-a-lots were fairly eurocentric since 3/5 of the languages were european so i do want to make my thanks-a-lots more diverse but idk what languages to use

welcome back to kit remakes girl scout cookies, the series where i, tumblr user i-wanna-linger, attempts to recreate discontinued girl scout cookies. today's episode is a very exciting one, because we are making thanks-a-lots, which i have been mourning for the past 6 years, ever since i was sat in a socially-distanced lunch circle with the other six cas and our camp director as she informed us that that past season would be the last with thanks-a-lots
many of the girl scout cookies are comprised of shortbread with various additions to the cookie, and the thanks-a-lots are no exception, so for this first test batch i am making a small batch of shortbread (which is, at it's most simple, a ratio of 1:2:3 by weight of sugar:butter:flour). i am using gluten free flour due to my own gluten sensitivity
first cream the (room temperature) butter with the sugar, then add the flour until a crumbly dough is achieved. i forgot to pull out the butter to soften, but with this heat wave, i simply put it on the windowsill and it was softened in minutes (roughly one permanent vacation by 5 seconds of summer) 🫠
rolled out the dough between two pieces of parchment until it came to a thickness that looked right (ended up being roughly 1/4" thick) and it is now chilling in the freezer for the test bake
test batch 1 bake: mostly testing the size and spread, as well as how well theyd hold an indentation. not much spread, nor was there much of a difference between temp when baked. as for taste and texture, they were very flaky and not too sweet, so for test batch 2, i will decrease the butter, increase the sugar, and add salt and vanilla
Are these a stamp before baking or a stamp right out of the oven type of cookie?

#gotta figure out a way to make the stamps with the messages
Have you thought about printmaking rubber? You could carve the message in relief and mirrored on the block and then press it into the dough, which would be like a reverse cookie cutter somewhat.
that's definitely a good idea, i’d have to look into it to make sure that whatever rubber i use is food safe since a lot of rubber can be porous and therefore a breeding ground for bacteria
if i can find a foodsafe rubber tho itd probably be easier than my initial idea to carve it out of wood

decided for work playlist-related reasons that i should redo my "camp appropriateness of my favorite music artists" spreadsheet but this time counting how many curse words each song has/how much violent or sexual content instead of the more subjective "camp/kitchen/none" categorization i did before... while this will definitely make curating work playlists easier so i dont have to worry with each song i put on there, it does feel kinda ridiculous to be putting "fuck shit bitch ass damn pussy" into nearly 20 tabs in a spreadsheet
now the real question here is how am i gonna categorize violence or sexual content in a non-subjective way... bc this early 2000s pop punk banger does not have a single curse word but it does detail why the lyricist's ex-girlfriend should die a painful death for daring to break up with him
maybe i should add a "death threats to an ex-girlfriend" column specifically to the fall out boy tab lmao
this is, quite possibly, the most ridiculous spreadsheet i have ever made... and i’ve made some pretty ridiculous spreadsheets (i love spreadsheets)
