so i made this in ibispaint meaning it’s not that neat, but here’s my proposal for an:
alterous flag redesign
for those that don’t know, alterous is a word used to describe feelings of attraction/affection that do not fall into the binary of romantic/platonic. similar to the nonbinary umbrella of gender, ‘alterous’ can describe feelings that are neither romantic or platonic, both, something in between, something entirely other, and so on. i’ve seen several alterous flags and personally none of them resonated with me, so i’ve attempted to make a flag that is easy to recreate, aesthetically pleasing, and meaningful.
i’ve noticed that striped flags are having more and more trouble trying to be meaningful while retaining originality, leading me to putting a verticle stripe at one side with a symbol inside it to tackle this issue. the black and white together symbolise the binary of romantic/platonic and their union under the umbrella of alterous, while the heart-tipped arrow symbolises the spectrum between aromantic and romantic that is present in the alterous community.
blue is a colour associated with alterous pride, so i have included blue stripes in varying shades to acknowledge the various ways in which people can experience alterous attraction/affection.
i would absolutely love if anyone would be willing to make a neater version of this as i’m not sure what program would be best for that, but for now i’m posting this to see if the community is interested.
