hold on, I thought that I was doing so well . I keep finding that Iām in a constant state of learning. Iām learning about myself, about my reactions, my feelings, my fears, my dreams, my needs, my passions, my hobbiesāand itās all in a constant state of change. Maybe in some ways, Iām evolving to something new that builds on my past self or it could just be that parts of me are gone now and new pieces coming into the mix. Shifting, reforming, reinventing, getting better, getting worse, but alas, constantly moving parts. Even in a year like 2020 when time seems like nothing like a social construct for order and organization, one finds themself looking back and wondering how they got here and where are they going? There are no clear answers. So we just keep moving, trying to make sense of it all. Itās daunting, at least for me. I thought that I was doing an ok job trying to navigate this period of post undergrad, making friends, staying social, active, developing a career. But then everything changed as everything does. Thus life feels daunting, because thereās so much to do, to work on, to change. What do you pick first? What if you see no progress over time? What if failure isnāt feeling like a blessing anymore but a curse? It feels like a rather heavy pressure. One of the first lines of Maggie Rogers āFalling Waterā inspired this open letter. Listen to her album. Itās way too smart for its own good.
