they’re both really busy people. but being apart from hal has never been something genesis enjoyed. even during fashion week, though the two didn’t get the chance to talk much at all, she was able to crawl into bed late at night and curl into his arms for the night. the coming weeks would be quite a bit different. hal would be gone for a few days at at a time. which meant that gen would be stuck sleeping all by herself. that is a task within itself. she tried to not overthink his departure much. but, being the over-planner she is.. genesis ended up waking up two hours before they had to get him to the airport. in that time, she managed to put together a little snack for his trip and make sure he packed everything he needed.
“i made you a smoothie! oh, and apple slices for later.” she says, and rather informal good morning as hal finally makes his way into the living room. she begins checking his suitcase. “you forgot socks. how could you forget socks?? and your moisturizer. you probably wanna bring an extra charger too. i have one i think,” two hours earlier than needed, but gen’s already wide awake. she is zipping around the apartment trying to keep herself busy. she thought keeping herself occupied would stop her from thinking about how much she’s going to miss him. “do you really like those grey shoes? i think the black ones match your shorts better?” @hzcleski
he had set an alarm on his phone, but it wasn’t supposed to ring for another hour. hal does most of his packing and preparing on the night before a big trip so that all he needs to do in the morning is wake up and haul himself and his gear to the airport in time to catch his flight. if he forgets something ( like his toothbrush or his socks, which are the two things he most often winds up leaving behind for some reason ), then he just buys a replacement when he arrives at his destination. hal is quite aware of how the person he married is the exact opposite, of how she’s a meticulous planner who prioritizes perfectionism over squeezing in a few extra minutes of sleep.
he wandered out of their en suite once he had finished brushing his teeth and splashing cold water on his face, wearing a pair of sweatpants that he would probably just wear to the airport later. he would just have to pull on a shirt, and then he would be ready to go. “uh...” hal’s mouth fell open as he watched gen rush around the living room. “cool. thanks.” he doesn’t tend to worry about things like moisturizer or an extra charger or the color of his shoes when he’s packing for an away game, so her remarks and questions received a sleepy, nonplussed reaction from him. “well...my shoes don’t really matter that much,” he decided with a shrug, “it’s my skates that are important and i know for sure that i have those in my bag.”
