Two more blogs for the blocklist!
Honestly I haven’t done it sooner because Kayla is an extremely vocal transfeminist, and is Up There with the most popular “transfeminist blogs”
To get to my actual point.
1) Trans women are still allowed to compete, albeit in the “male” or open divisions. That is fucked up, but it’s not the same as being barred in full.
2) Trans men can only compete in the women’s if they have never undergone any medical transition at all at any point.
3) Trans men who are medically transitioning are typically banned from men’s divisions as testosterone is a banned substance in the Olympics as well as most sporting bodies in general. So yk, they were already barred in a way.
4) not all transmascs are afab like this post implies. Transmasc doesn’t mean “afab nonbinary”
5) while this is explicitly targeting trans women, this is also targeting intersex women as well. The ruling states that it’s explicitly looking for traces of the SRY gene via a one time only test that is virtually impossible to appeal. And if a woman is found with a present SRY gene, then she’ll only have a chance at being admitted if she has complete androgen insensitivity syndrome. And it’s not guaranteed. Where the fuck is the outcry about that huh?
Once again this is “trans people have the option to detransition/not medically transition to get access to a thing stupidly exclusive to their birth sex” being framed as a privilege because trans men can to have access to the women’s team if they don’t medically transition. As if trans women are prohibited from detransitioning/not transitioning and doing the same to join the men’s? Like, neither is good, but this whole “trans men get both the boys stuff AND the girls stuff it’s so unfair!!” Shit literally needs to stop like yesterday. And generally the only reason why trans men are allowed in the men’s is because basically they figure that a “woman pretending to be a man” could never actually beat “real men” at sports, and they’ll ensure that continues to be the case by strictly regulating, if not barring completely medical transition for trans men.
I feel like a lot of this stuff has parallels to all the sodomy laws being passed in the 1960s or so, the ones that heavily focused on gay men. But like, lesbians were never not targeted by those laws, and it would be insane to imply that lesbians had it easier during that time.
I feel like something similar is happening here with trans women being the ones largely explicitly targeted and legislated against, but these laws are never meant to target solely trans women, and often even include language which explicitly targets trans men too but in ways that are more insidious and revolve around “protecting women and young girls”
Idk, but like. Cmon. The current “trans discourse” and calls for unity have literally fucking nothing to do with this ruling, it was not affected by tumblr blogs. This was deliberately done by transphobic cis people and likely was also done in response to the USA’s fascist gender rulings. This was a decision made by people in power who are also highly misogynistic by implying that basically testosterone is the end all be all, and that no woman could be a woman/female and have high testosterone, and it’s such a powerful Man Chemical that poor defenseless women just don’t stand a chance against anyone with a drop of it in their veins, and this shit is intersexist too. This ruling is also geared to target plenty of intersex women too, but funny how they’re left out in this huh. Also enby people who don’t have binary transitions, them and intersex ppl are probably the most fucked out of all of this if we really want to go there.
But hey, why be angry at the transphobes leading these orgs when you can blame trans men for this and get angry at a handful of bloggers instead, while conveniently either being blind to or deliberately erasing the problems of literally everyone else who will also be affected by the ruling. But they’re not trans women so I guess they’re not really important…
If you can’t tell I am extremely salty about this explicitly because holy fuck, if I wanted to fedpost and get the trans community (and intersex community too! This shit looks rancid from all sides!) to turn on other individual members instead of having their ire rightfully directed at the people actually writing this shit into regulations, then god, I literally couldn’t fedpost better than what OOP is doing rn.
