The event I made up for myself.
So this month, since I have no more fanfiction of my own to write, I decided I would take a little time to appreciate the amazing works of KC writers. I realize itâs going to be a challenge and I really hope I have the time to complete this, but I promise all the fics I rec here are awesome and worth your time!Â
KLAROLINE FANFIC REC MONTH - DAY SIXTEEN:Â Heartless by clangweeÂ
Summary: Â When he had an eternity, she had a deadline. AU-ish.
Why you should read it: Fair warning: if you think the angst stuff I write is too much for you, youâre probably not going to be very comfortable with this one. Itâs one hell of a bitter-angsty story. But if, like me, you appreciate a well written, well constructed story and donât really mind what type it is, then please take your time to appreciate this beauty, because it is ART.
This is an AU which sort of fits within canon after a while, except Caroline has been a vampire for hundreds of years. Itâs mostly written from Klausâ POV and UGH! My heart! Klaus is SUCH a difficult character to write, especially in stories where heâs supposed to be every bit the Klaus we see on the show, and what @hybridtunnelvision does here is simply stunning. Her Klaus is dangerous, paranoid, doesnât trust easily, has all sorts of abandonment issues and is jealous AF at the same time heâs terrified of feeling. *Chefâs kiss*
His relationship with Caroline, the way it develops over the centuries, is a thing of beauty. We see as Klaus slowly comes to terms with his feelings for her, fighting through the inconsistencies that make him such a complex character. The part that is set during the 20s in Chicago is just so heartbreaking, but so powerful as well. I was screaming at Klaus at the same time I kinda of wanted to sort of maybe give him a hug. And then the final part, when he finally, FINALLY, gets his shit together once heâs accomplished his lifeâs dream and thinks heâs gotten rid of Mikael and Caroline is no longer in danger⌠MY GOD, MY ANGSTY HEART WAS SCREAMING! đđđ
This is seriously, seriously beautiful.
âShe anchors him during blurs of rage and when times are bleak and the only sound he hears is his stepfatherâs words inside his head, she colors his days with her laughter and smile. Sheâs his hiding place, his respite, amid the chaos that always seems to follow him and this⌠This is exactly why he never told her about Mikael. Why he felt safe hiding behind the excuse of the game, afraid to have her too closeâŚ
Sheâs too beautiful to be tarnished by his demons. He wants to keep her, his untainted retreat. His home -
But he would destroy her.â
This is such great, powerful writing. Right to the feels! Beautiful prose, amazing dialogues (thereâs a conversation between Klaus and Elijah that made me swoooooon! Not that Iâm biased or anything *cough cough*) and so, so evocative. It makes me want to WEEP for how amazing it is, because I wish I could write half this well.
But heed my warning, my dudes: this is not for the faint of heart. I realize this fandom seems to have a lot of people who canât tolerate darker stories, not necessarily with happy endings (Iâve been called names and told not to write anymore because this fandom âdoesnât need any more sad storiesâ, soâŚâŚ), and if thatâs your case, then perhaps this isnât for you. But if youâd still like to appreciate some truly great writing, read chapters 1 and 2 and fill in the blanks with your imagination from then on. Iâm sure it will still be worth it!
