Thomas Shelby x Reader - Lover
Thank you for this!!! I'm not particularly a Taylor Swift fan, but I'm definitely a fan of that song and this concept! Hope you like it!
Thomas Shelby. He was your best friend, and had been since childhood. You had been considered part of his family from quite early on, since you didn't have a proper one to call your own. He was your home.
You loved him in every sense of the word, but you weren't sure if he felt the same way. You knew he loved you, but you just didn't know if he was in love with you. You were certainly in love with him.
"What's all the staring for?" Tommy teased you, despite his voice sounding serious. You blinked, realizing far too late that he had looked up from his desk.
"It's those cheekbones." you fanned yourself dramatically. To him you'd sound like you were joking, but there was a lot of truth to what you said. Tommy was absolutely gorgeous.
"Oh, shut up." he snorted, looking back to the papers on his desk. The barest hint of a smile touched the corner of his mouth, and you grinned with satisfaction. Anything you could do to make him smile was okay by you.
You picked up the book in your lap once more, enjoying the comfort of his company. Neither of you minded the quiet, so it was very peaceful. Well, it would be if you could get him out of your head.
Months had gone by since that day, and your love for Thomas only grew. So when you read the note again, your heart soared. It read simply:
Quickly, you hurried out of the house, grabbing your coat on the way. You thought you'd get up early and clean before Thomas woke, but clearly he had been up very early. You weren't surprised that you didn't hear him, for he was often as quiet as the fog.
The air was chilly outside, and you made the decision to snag a blanket before finally heading out. As you made your way to the meadow, you clumsily did up the coat buttons with your chilly fingers. You hoped Thomas was alright, especially if he had been out even earlier than this.
White-gold sunlight spilled over the hills, casting a magical glow over the meadow as you reached it. Your heart beat a little faster at the prospect of seeing Thomas in such lovely light.
Spotting Thomas sitting against a tree, you called out, "Did you sleep at all?"
In a typical Tommy answer, he just silently patted the ground beside him.
Before sitting, you spread the blanket halfway around his shoulders. You then sat, and wrapped the rest around your own. His small hum of gratitude made it all worth it.
He wrapped an arm around your shoulders, and pulled you closer. You both tucked the blanket tighter around you two, and snuggled together. Thomas was far colder than you, and you took guilty pleasure in him wanting your warmth. Besides just warming up your dearest friend, it almost seemed as if you were a couple.
As if Thomas was listening to your thoughts, he tucked his face into the crook of your neck like a big cat. His face was nearly frozen, and the warm skin of your neck now had tons of goosebumps. You blushed, which likely became extremely obvious.
"Thank you." he murmured, voice groggy.
In moments, he had fallen asleep.
And so you sat, watching the sun rise as you cuddled with your sleepy best friend. You absentmindedly ran your fingers through his hair, imagining what a future would be like as his lover.
"I love you, Thomas Shelby." you whispered, just to say it out loud. Surely it couldn't hurt. He was asleep.
"I love you, too." Thomas said warmly, sliding his arm from your shoulders to your waist.
"I-I.." you got out, blushing from head to toe. You didn't think he was awake!
"I was wondering when you'd finally spit it out." he smirked, and you could hear it in his voice.
"Oh, hush. You didn't say it either." you protested kindly, ruffling his hair.
"I didn't want to lose you." he said honestly, eyes fluttering shut once more as your fingers ran through his hair again.
"We shared the same thought, then." you said quietly, relief washing over you. You finally told him, and it took more of a weight off you than you realized.
"We're both a couple of idiots." he stated, before drifting off to sleep once more.
With him asleep, his steady breathing and the growing warmth of the sun made you nod off as well.
Later that night, you were donned in one of the most expensive dresses you'd ever worn. Thomas wanted everyone to look their best, and insisted on getting you something to wear. So when you slipped the deep red garment on, you felt wildly undeserving of its beauty.
All too quickly, you were mingling with the rich guests of the party. You had seen Thomas a few times at a distance, and he always seemed busy. This night was for him and his business, so you tried to smother your desire to be around him.
You hadn't seen him much since that morning, and not since donning the dress he got you. You were desperate to continue the conversation about your feelings for each other. What happened now? You were dying to find out.
"You're staring again." Thomas seemed to suddenly appear before you, and you flushed. He was stunning in his new suit, and you couldn't do much but drink him in.
"Damn cheekbones. You're just too beautiful." you gave him a grin.
"You're one to talk. You're the most beautiful woman in the room."
"Oh, don't, Tommy." you blushed, floored by his compliment.
He smiled, "It's true. Come on, let's get out of here. I've spent hours chatting them up so I could spend proper time with you."
"Well, then let's go home." you broke into a full smile, feeling confident enough to take his hand in yours.
Grinning, you and Thomas snuck out of the party while grinning like children. You felt a bit devious for taking the party's main host away, but you didn't care all that much. You felt selfish, but then again, it was Thomas' idea to leave.
You barely made it inside before you were being pulled close. Thomas' closeness took your breath away, and you felt as if you were suddenly seeing him for the first time. He was simply breathtaking. You didn't care what bad things he had done. He had always made you feel safe and loved, and that's what mattered.
Suddenly, his lips were upon your own. The kiss was tender, and filled with so much love that it brought a tear to your eye.
"I love you." you told him for the second time that day.
He embraced you, saying softly, "And I you."
"Can we be like this forever?" you blurted out, full of warmth.
Thomas nodded, pressing his forehead against yours, "Forever."
