@hvldings  ââ  â thereâs a huge difference between what we work for and what we live for â
alecto, with a quick, tight-lipped smile, dipped her head in acknowledgement at the jones girl. it was always odd and strained for her to run into people she knew at hogwarts; odder and even more strained when they were people sheâd share a house with. the two year difference in age didnât matter; ravenclaws were ravenclaws in alectoâs mind.  â I suppose I have no cause to disagree with you, hestia, â she said, an airy wave of a well manicured hand adding flippancy to otherwise polished words. â but there hardly seems time nowadays to find something to live for amidst all the work. â
there was a flicker of something, barely noticeable, on her face. she returned the smile, albeit reluctantly. hestiaâs earlier words had been said with a touch of resentment, lingering. words that came from long ago. alectoâs response caused hestia pause, a quick clench of a fist hidden in a pocket. âit must depend how hard youâre working, but i find it quite easy to find anything to live for. it doesnât have to be something grand. could be a job, a holiday, a friend.â

â so youâre telling me that if you were allowed to go out into field you wouldnât hesitate if the person in front of you was someone you knewâŚ? or even a child? â cold harsh truth falling off her lips as she leans against the wall. arms folded across her chest as she studies hestiaâs movements. â that even if it was your best friend standing on the other side, you wouldnât miss ? â alice remembered the night when she had hesitated, when her anger directed at frank had caused her to lose focus and for them to lose a target and she had paid for it in failure & in heartbreak. â youâre not ready. â she concludes before the girl has even attempted to respond and with a swift movement she thinks expelliarmus and catches hestiaâs wand before the girl turns around. â not for that. â
âi didnât say that.â donât twist my words, she wants to say. but this is alice - who, despite her harsh words, bloody knows what sheâs talking about. âi get what you mean- i agree with you, even, but donât you feel helpless?â hestiaâs deliberately facing away, her lip ever so slightly quivering. theyâre supposed to wait until more people die? rules used to soothe hestia but somethingâs been stirring recently, reminding her of how she felt when she left hogwarts. wasted, confused, little. her wand is swiftly removed from her hand, and she turns rapidly to face alice. she smiles despite herself, never much affected by people with more talent than her. âyouâre right- i just- want to be doing something.â
@alixcs asked me to use a line from my favourite film ( inception ) as a starter | ** accepting!
âTrue inspiration,â began Hestia, eyes slipping closed briefly, as she tightened her grip on her wand. â-is impossible to fake. I canât pretend to- to care.â There was a slight sigh, something hitched, that canât quite fit into her lungs. The news about Regulus had hit her - and hard. She wouldnât pretend to have really known the boy, nevermind liked him, but another life- another child taken by the war. It would be incredibly easy for her to get lost in her work after this, itâs her usual tactic, but something is stopping her this time. âI understand the rules, I do, I get why we have them, but this is ridiculous. Training, over and over, when we could be fighting. Properly helping.â
âDo you want me to beat him up for you?,â Mary asked, raising her eyebrows as she brought her coffeecup to her lips. âIâll do it. Iâll even pay you, if youâll let me â what an arse.â That plenty of their male colleagues were able to be right dickheads was no surprise to Mary, but that didnât mean it wasnât endlessly frustrating. âIâd love to ⌠just ⌠have a go at his nose. After my coffee, of course, but still. Fighting with fists is just more satisfactory than dueling.â She was grinning, then â she wasnât serious, of course ( not entirely, at least â she wouldnât mind a reason to introduce someone to her right hook at that moment, but that was unrelated to all this ). âIâd love to knock a Death Eaterâs mask off their face just with my bare fist, one day.â
âIâm not entirely sure how much that would solve.â There was a pause, which Hestia used to laugh slightly. She was uncomfortable. Not with Mary, never with Mary, but there was a lingering feeling of being uncomfortable. Suggestive words uttered to her while she was getting her morning coffee; ones that she was used to, but not directly in her ear. âYouâre right- thereâs something gratifying about the crunch.â Her coffee was still sat in the kitchen, having abandoned it ( like a coward ) when sheâd been affronted. Eyes drifted to Maryâs subconsciously. âRight, well, Mark from downstairs probably isnât a Death Eater, love, but I get the sentiment.â

âOur questions ricochet like broken satellites: how our bodies, born to HEAL, become so prone to DIE?â
HESTIA JONES is TWENTY-TWO years old and works as an JUNIOR AUROR and is loyal to OOTP they were a RAVENCLAW and are a HALF-BLOOD. SHE/HER looks like SOPHIE COOKSON.Â
CHARACTER PARALLELS: Ariadne (Inception), Clara Oswald (Doctor Who), Hope Van Dyne (Marvel), Gwen Cooper (Torchwood), April MacLean (Class), Nico Minoru (Runaways), Emily Prentiss (Criminal Minds), Caitlin Snow (The Flash).
AESTHETICS: pristine but empty champagne glasses, tiny dots of light on a globe of the earth, intricate museum ceilings, a necklace you never take off, hair tumbling out of its bun, smears of polish on the ends of your fingers, crisp handwriting, the sound of a candle being lit, soft footfall, heavy rainfall & the disguise of a scar.Â
LINKS: playlist , boardÂ
i. HESTIA ROSE JONES: born to a pureblood mother, who is a fawley before she is a jones, who is a blood-traitor, and a muggleborn father. along with two older brothers, gethin & iwan, she is brought into a world of comfort, of genuine warmth and love and respect from both parents. they instill in her the need for equality, she has no family on her motherâs side, and the importance of knowledge. she learns to learn the facts before speaking out; knows how to achieve the upper hand without anybody taking notice.
ii. HESTIA JONES: the transition of moving from home, which has always been a small cottage in the magical community of pembrokeshire, to hogwarts, is unremarkable. she goes from one place of learning to another, although the style of learning is undoubtedly different. now she learns facts and figures, where before she has learnt what to feel and how to express it. her parents are wonderful, sheâll never question that, but hestia has been taught to be the jonesâ girl. it is at hogwarts she learns to be hestia.Â
iii. HES: the best years of her life are spent at school. she takes to her classes like a fish to water, finding she has a knack for charms, which she takes full advantage of. itâs a quiet subject, one she can focus on and hone in on, which has always been the way that hestia learns. she makes her plans, sets them out, writes them down in her tiny handwriting thatâs never looked quite right when written with a quill. a professor, she will be. of charms, or of history of magic. her students will like her, but respect her, and while she may not achieve the best grades in her year (because she is trying so, so hard to do everything that nothing is getting accomplished) they will still be outstanding. she doesnât have to be the best, itâs never been about that, she just has to be good enough.Â
iv. HESTIA: the darkness has been on the rise for years - hestia canât really remember a time without it - but people start dying in london, and it canât be ignored any longer. the well scoped plans of a long life as a professor are dropped, and her focus goes into becoming an auror. it is achieved, because hestia doesnât know how to act when she fails, and so she never does. her interest in charms lingers, but is overshadowed by the ever growing in importance of defence against the dark arts. the love she had for history of magic becomes a case of never letting it happen again. her graduation from hogwarts goes without much fanfare, two brothers already out and into the world - a world that seems much more dangerous than when she first arrived at the school.
v. HESTIA JONES: she leaves school and not so much as wants, but needs, to return home. her mind is chaotic, now, and while she knows why (the war, the death, the destruction of the world she loves), there is nothing she can do to fix it. so she stays with her parents, just for two months, needing a moment of reprieve from the oncoming threat. there isnât an ounce of her that doesnât feel selfish - but her head feels like itâs never going to shut up. she canât be a kid, balks at being called anything but her full name. feels as if sheâs never going to get better, and perhaps she wonât.
vi. JONES: itâs something hestiaâs wanted for a while, but her training as an auror brings her back to herself. her brain has something to focus on - and the anger she feels nearly all the time (quiet, subdued) seems to dissipate. things, generally, are cheerier. the war rages on but sheâs doing something against it, and she feels purposeful. she is suddenly necessary. the people she works with are angry, and she doesnât blame them, but she is able to survive because she has the knowledge to do so.Â
