Iâm Norwegian 28m - I grew up on the west coast in a small industrial town. Iâve held a lot of interest private, and kept to myself - now I wanna share more an be more communal. I do a lot of different things: photography, study, read and write. I try to keep to original content on this blog. Using tumblr for me is an exercise in taking all the things and interests I have privately and orient myself towards others. Using it is a mindful exercise: taking control of the content I consume, freeing it from an algorithm. And creating more
I have an ongoing photography art project:
A Love Supreme: Love proceeding (working title) Iâm working with themes of greif and awe, human futility and mysticism. If you wanna be creative together, talk about your art project with someone - my dms are open
I also study Urban planning/spatial planning. Iâm very interested in theory and degrowth/ post growth planning. Iâm doing my master thesis next year, Iâm still exploring research questions but I think I wanna do something about Land. Land as a resource and how itâs used and understood. Sustainable development will require more intensive land use - but how we treat land as a commodity - becoming increasingly expensive- I see as the greatest challenge to sustainable compact socially equitable cities. Alto saxophonist Brede SĂžrum and trombonist JĂžrgen Bjelkerud are two of the foremost young jazz musicians in Norway. And now they have joined forces in the septet When I Return, where they have written all the compositions, and where they collaborate with tenor saxophonist Ă sne Fossmark, trumpeter Ola LĂžmo Ellingsen, pianist Sondre Moshagen, bassist Kertu Aer and drummer Steinar Heide BĂž.
The recording was made at Ăra Studio, and we get six compositions. They open with "The Opening," and immediately I'm impressed by the skill and creativity of these relatively young Norwegian musicians. "The Opening" could be lifted straight from John Coltrane's period around the release of A Love Supreme â this applies especially to the alto saxophone playing at the start, which could almost just as easily have been done Coltrane-style on soprano saxophone.
It changes a little as the rest of the band comes in, and when Moshagen enters on piano, we're in an entirely different place than where McCoy Tyner was in his interplay with Coltrane. Moshagen is a lyricist, and delivers a beautiful solo here, with lovely accompaniment from Aer and Heide BĂž. And the way the tune develops further shows a maturity in the musicians that doesn't suggest this is a relatively young "band," because this sounds extremely accomplished and grown-up."
I've seen SĂžrum perfom during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2025, playing in schemes quartet.
I was originally following VeslemĂžy Narvesen (drums, "We don't Imagine Anymore") around everywhere she went. That led me to Schemes Quartet. The video above is the opening and ending of the last song on their album Embrace, "Save me with love". The performance here was breathtaking.
I remember finding such comfort in listening to A Love Supreme. This ressonance of Coltrane in SĂžrums compositions and live performances struck something within me.

If youâre a fan of Japanese animation (aka anime) youâve doubtless heard of a few classics held up as the best of the medium. Films and television shows whose place in the history of Japanese culture is widely regarded as secure: Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Spirited Away, to name a few of the most prominent. They all have their critics, but few would dispute their place in history as landmarks of the industry. But thereâs one classic piece of Japanese animation whose legacy is far more contentious and which sparks controversy even today. Like the aforementioned pieces itâs well-known and has been watched by many, but unlike them its value is frequently questioned and derided.
I am speaking, of course, of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hideaki Annoâs 1995 post-apocalyptic series about teenagers who pilot giant robots in a war for the survival of humanity. And in my opinion itâs actually one of the best and most important television shows of all time, animated or not.
(Spoilers ahead, though Iâll try to keep major revelations to a minimum.)

I did something illegal today, it felt illegal. I decided that I donât care to tryhard saving my law exam by doing the entire semester i one week, so Iâm skipping it
I like law, I just had two so time consuming projects in other classes so I didnât get to it this semester
So now Iâm going to enjoy my summer break, read law with all the time in the world, write good notes, and take it next semester easily.
