They asked me how I feel and I said confused. They stared at me as to say ‘what the hell does that mean’ but honestly I don’t know myself. I guess I’m confused about life, about life and everything in it. I’m confused as to why we need love to live but we need to live in order to love. I’m confused as to why some of the most beautiful people look in mirror and see ugliness. I’m confused about why those who are loved the most feel as if their life is not worth living. I’m confused about why some put themselves out there only to be broken. I’m confused about so many things, but mainly I’m confused about life.

I miss you is a cliché way to show how much I really am missing you. What if I told you my life is literally falling apart without you here? I thought I could do it. I thought I could just walk away and forget about us. Who are you anyway? Who are you to make my life feel so empty? You are the one person who could help me focus in my life. You were the one who gave me hope to continue. You were my motivation. You were the reason why I wanted a future. You were the reason why I wanted a family. Having you beside me was the main reason I wanted to live. What now? Why is my life so screwed up? Why am I so tired? I don’t have intentions in having a better life. I don’t have motivation to wake up at 7 every morning. I don’t wanna do this if you’re not here. I don’t wanna be me, because there’s no reason in being me when you’re not being you.

The song is about liking someone who you want so much that you want to hurt yourself and them, as well. We related that idea to Where the Wild Things Are, which we all grew up reading, where in the end the beasts say “Oh, please don’t go! We’ll eat you whole! We love you so!,” that they would threaten cannibalism to have that person—it’s a powerful image. Our video for this track has a really different message, and yet it worked really well with the song. It’s quite a weird one; people aren’t sure what’s going on. We liked that you might have to go back and watch it a second time to figure out what is happening.

For art to exist, for any sort of aesthetic activity to exist, a certain physiological precondition is indispensable: intoxication.

Everything we are is anchored in our childhoods. The drama comes in how we deal with it. Are we slaves to our past, or can we rise above it? This is the stuff of great stories.

There’s a special place in my heart for the ones who were with me at my lowest and still loved me when I wasn’t very loveable.
