Bernie Sanders' campaign manager Jeff Weaver: "What's the point of suppressing voter turnout in six states across the country to have a quick news hit that could easily have been done tonight?"
The Dem Primary Will Be Contested
THE MEDIA IS SPEWING A HORRIBLY INACCURATE TALE. HC HAS NOT REACHED THE NEEDED DELEGATE COUNT WITHOUT SUPER DELEGATES, AND SUPER DELEGATES DON’T COUNT FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS, DURING WHICH THEY CAN SWITCH THEIR VOTE ANYHOW. THIS UNDERHANDED PLOY TO INFLUENCE THE PUBLIC WITH FALSE MEDIA HEADLINES RATHER THAN WAITING FOR THE VOTES TO COUNT IN THE LAST FEW STATES IS EXACTLY THE DIRTY BUSINESS THAT NEEDS TO END. #feelthebern #bernie #berniesanders

Mr. Speaker, let me begin with a profound remark: Two plus two equals four. In other words, there is a logical and rational process called cause and effect. In terms of Newtonian physics, that means that every action causes an equal and opposite reaction. In other words, Mr. Speaker, there are reasons why things happen, as controversial as that statement may be. A farmer neglects to tend and care for his fields—it is likely that the crop will fail. A company neglects to invest in research and development—it is likely that the company will not be profitable. In a similar way, Mr. Speaker, a society which neglects, which oppresses and which disdains a very significant part of its population—which leaves them hungry, impoverished, unemployed, uneducated, and utterly without hope, will, through cause and effect, create a population which is bitter, which is angry, which is violent, and a society which is crime-ridden. This is the case in America, and it is the case in countries throughout the world. Mr. Speaker, how do we talk about the very serious crime problem in America without mentioning that we have the highest rate of childhood poverty in the industrialized world, by far, with 22 percent of our children in poverty and 5 million who are hungry today? Do the Members think maybe that might have some relationship to crime? How do we talk about crime when this Congress is prepared, this year, to spend 11 times more for the military than for education; when 21 percent of our kids drop out of high school; when a recent study told us that twice as many young workers now earn poverty wages as 10 years ago; when the gap between the rich and the poor is wider, and when the rate of poverty continues to grow? Do the members think that might have some relationship to crime? Mr. Speaker, it is my firm belief that clearly, there are some people in our society who are horribly violent, who are deeply sick and sociopathic, and clearly these people must be put behind bars in order to protect society from them. But it is also my view that through the neglect of our Government and through a grossly irrational set of priorities, we are dooming tens of millions of young people to a future of bitterness, misery, hopelessness, drugs, crime, and violence. And Mr. Speaker, all the jails in the world, and we already imprison more people per capita than any other country, and all of the executions in the world, will not make that situation right. We can either educate or electrocute. We can create meaningful jobs, rebuilding our society, or we can build more jails. Mr. Speaker, let us create a society of hope and compassion, not one of hate and vengeance.

The Clinton campaign is saying he was for it back then and has flip-flopped. That’s more or less just untrue.

'Antibusiness' Bernie Sanders? Hardly. A closer look at the 'Feel the Bern' phenomenon shows plenty of business smarts.
Could Bernie Sanders, a self-described “democratic socialist” and Wall Street’s biggest critic, be an entrepreneurial genius?
A closer look at the ideas and methods propelling the ‘Feel the Bern’ phenomenon, and interviews with entrepreneurial experts, show that the Sanders campaign has displayed plenty of business smarts tailored to today’s market. His renewed momentum after a win this week in Wisconsin — making it 7 out of the last 8 contests for the Vermont senator — has been built on age-old entrepreneurial tricks and business trends that Sanders has turned into a large, vocal and “profitable” slice of the U.S. electorate.
To start — and to cover quickly what should by now be obvious — whileHillary Clinton and Republican candidates receive “handouts” from corporations and billionaire donors, Sanders has managed his campaign like an entrepreneurial start-up, funding it from the ground up.
After rejecting all super PAC support and special-interest money, Sanders focused heavily on small money donations. President Obama’s original run for the Oval Office set this trend, but Sanders recently broke fundraising records with more than 6 million individual contributions, almost tripling the record set by Obama in 2011.
Sanders’ marketing appeal has leveraged an American public growing more and more dissatisfied with campaign finance loopholes. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the Vermont-based founders of Ben & Jerry’s, speaking from their car on the way to a Sanders campaign event, said,
“It’s all supported by the ultra-wealthy and the corporations, and that’s the elephant in the room that nobody except Bernie wants to address.”
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders says if elected president, he will overturn laws in Mississippi and North Carolina that critics say discriminate against the gay community.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Friday that if elected president, he would overturn laws in Mississippi and North Carolina that critics say discriminate against the gay community.
“As president of the United States, I would do everything I can do to overturn those outrageous decisions by Mississippi and North Carolina,” he said on ABC’s “The View.” “We have gone too far as a nation. God knows we have seen so much discrimination in our history.”
Governors of Mississippi and North Carolina have recently signed bills into law that gay rights groups and some corporations have decried as discriminatory. Supporters of the bills say they are designed to protect the religious and individual freedoms of the states’ citizens.
“What we are trying to do is say, ‘You have your political views. That’s fine,’” Sanders added. “But I hope we remember what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told us. You judge people on their character, not on the color of their skin. And I would add to that not on their gender or sexual orientation.”
The presidential candidate said he has supported the LGBT community even when most Americans did not, citing his vote against the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, a bill that defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman for federal purposes and allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages acknowledged by other states.“
I had the courage to vote the right way even when it was not necessarily popular,” Sanders said.

This is what democracy looks like. I spent the past few days canvassing in New Hampshire for the Bernie Sanders campaign. It's not something that I have any previous experience with, but let me tell you I met so many people: young and old, political and heart-driven, experienced and inexperienced, fringe, moderate, conservative-- so many people supporting Bernie Sanders because the call for establishment change has become so inherently strong within our daily lives. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity, not only to contribute to a cause I support but to have had the opportunityto learn from so many people much more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the political process. This experience has not only brought me the feeling of victory (Sanders won NH!) but also the sense that the support Bernie has much tangible fuel and will be maintained s the campaign travels around the country in the next few months. One fellow volunteer described this particular feeling as demonstrated in the rally tonight as the extraordinary energy created within the gymnasium when we all seemed to breath together between Sanders's lines, like the moment in basketball between the shot and the ball making the hoop. There is so uch support and after we donate and volunteer for the Bernie campaign the next thing to do is to research your local and state officiala so we an make the most of our voice from the bottom up. Most of all, VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES.
