because the normalverse destrons were implied to have caused something called ‘the purge’ which wiped out a LOT of cybertronian records and i want to make their thing more focused on knowledge and it’s availability to the masses, AND im going to keep them active if severely crippled in effectiveness during the time after  the autobots rose to power. 

....also, im gonna make the destrons pacifists. the decepticons are not pacifists, though, haha, duh. And their thing is waaaaaay more broad then the Destrons thing about...essentially education?, because while they started out a political faction, it sort of grew in scope when they became militarized, and had the power to change EVERYTHING (at least that’s what it would have felt like to them). 

What would have happened (i think) was it started out as WHAT THE HeLL WE’RE NOT GONNA SIT HERE AND LET YOU ABUSE THE ALLSPARK LIKE THAt (because in this universe the autobots were the one to have the brilliant idea to use it to “upgrade” cybertron itself) and the majority of the ‘bots who believed that were the lower classes (castes?), for a few reasons. I mean there were the military ‘bots (not anyone in a position of leadership for the most part but the “cannon fodder”) who didn’t want to get involved in even MORE war but would be forced to because that’s what they were created to do and the more peace-time oriented laborors (hELL NO NOT OUR PLANET) were both very against the idea.

also the lower classes tended to believe more in the “divinity” of the allspark versus the upper classes more...idk, willingness to exploit it? not the right word....but IDEAS so. 

ANYWAYS so the movement started out like that, just a bunch of angry ‘bots objecting to the abuse of the allspark, but as the autobots (starting with the decepticon registration act and moving downhill from there) cracked down HARD, and megazark (the movements founder) was assassinated, megatron took the reigns and turned the decepticons into an actual threat. he didn’t exactly WANT a war, but believed 100% that it was the only way to a) “rescue” the allspark and put it back in the hands of the people instead of the “fools” who currently had it and b) create ACTUAL CHANGE in a stagnated cybertron, freeing it from Autobot Tyranny.

IDK ALSO JUST BRAINSTORMY IDEAS

The Autobots were born  a subfaction of the “Protectobots” (The Protectobots were all for protecting Cybertronian Interests, and nothing else), demanding more aggressive colonization and expansionist effort,  as well as a return to a more traditional stance on the role of the individual in society and the caste system then was currently in favor.

The political situation in Cybertron at the time was like this: the Protectobots were popular among the nobility and the upper castes (not universally, but enough to matter), but the “common bots” flocked in droves to the Destrons, who championed individualism, universal access to an education (and universal access to a version of history that hadn’t been tampered to make the ruling classes look better, as was unfortunately common at the time), a more equal healthcare system, etc. etc. While the Protectobots would have liked nothing better than to ignore the Destrons, they didn’t want to provoke a rebellion of the lower classes, and allowed several of the Destrons’ reforms to go through. The resulting backlash essentially created the Autobots.  

It didn’t take long before the Autobots overtook the Protectobots, and after a very short era in which the Autobots and the Destrons coexisted “peacefully”, the Autobots started a fairly short (in comparison to previous civil wars, and the Autobot/Decepticon conflict that would come next) but nonetheless very bloody campaign to burn the Destrons off the face of Cybertron. They succeeded-- they didn’t destroy every mech that had ever said they were a Destron, essentially the entire working class of Cybertron had at one point or another, but they did cripple the movement beyond recovery.  And so the Autobots took control of Cybertron.

LETS TALK ABOUT SG DECEPTICONS BECAUSE NORMAL DECEPTICONS IN TFA WERE FOUNDED BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO BE MORE IMPERIALISTIC/EXPANSIONIST AND IM NOT SURE IF I WANNA FLIP THAT INTO THE ‘DECEPICONS ARE ACTUAL FREEDOM FIGHTERS ALA AN IDW’ISH BACKSTORY’ OR SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND MORE ORIGINAL 

but ive always thought it would be funny (given i do sometimes lean toward the ‘sari was built by decepticons at some point theory’ because of various reasons) if Sari’s spark was ‘recycled’.
