I think Iām finally happy with how Alastor turned out! Iāve been working on him on and off for a while now but yāall know I work best - (say it with me folks!) - whenever Iām procrastinating! I had to pull out my watercolours because I was pretty unsatisfied with how the pencils were layering, but Iām quite content with it now! No monocle - INTENTIONAL this time lol! The freckles spawned in my head last minute, haha! ā365ā for him because Alastor is a certified brat and I wonāt hear otherwisešŖ

Itās cropped a little awkwardly but yeah. I added some eye shine to Lucifer and deepened some of the shadows on him. I believe Iām done with these two for now.
I actually ordered the season 2 OST CD! Along with the āBratā album ofc. I recently got myself a Walkman so now I can listen to music with no internet!ā¦ I used to do that before. Itās quite strange how literally every aspect of our lives is connected to the internet. I for one, am gradually disconnecting. Iām reading physical books again. I have time for hanging with friends. I FEEL better. Iāll keep tumblr, because some small part in me still wants to make a living off my art, and if not that, then to simply show it and interact with other art lovers. But wouldnāt it be nice if I didnāt need the internet for that to happen?
Some sketches I did of Charlie in my friendās sketchbook! Iād have loved to work more on the foreshortening on the arm holding Alastorās staff but meh. I really should draw Charlie more, she has such a great character design. (Yes yes, Iāll hear all of you screaming about the amount of red on her - but I follow the belief that Alastor and Charlie both follow narratives wherein the colour red represents specific things to them personally. Iāll actually write a whole essay on this if literally ANYONE asks lol.)
Other than her character design? I feel Charlie is an incredibly well-thought out and complex female character, and the main reason people donāt forgive her - is (imo) due to misogyny (conscious or not).
- Thatās not to say there arenāt issues with Vivās writing, though I donāt feel following a train of āI saw this opinion on the internet and took it at face valueā to be conductive to media literacy, and I HIGHLY encourage people to actually analyse the source material rather than having a surface-level gander and simply deciding the opinion formed from that limited experience to be the end-all. (Though of course, this is a large overgeneralisation Iām making here - not all opinions come from the internet - and not everyone agrees to one ātruthā when it comes to interpretation, though I felt as though it could be used as an allegory regardless.)
- I would happily elaborate on my thoughts about Hazbin Hotelās weaknesses, but I feel like Hazbinās strengths are never talked about, so here is at least one! The characters are ridiculously well thought through, and are written logically based on the life experiences they have, or reasonably would have based on their other characteristics.
Ex. Charlie wears a red suit not just because she is the princess of hell, but because red is the colour of the pride ring. She represents the sinners, she is THEIR princess. Dressing in the colour of the people that at best ignore her, and at worst hate her entirely - is also incredibly naive. Additionally, she wears a suit as a mask - bravado. It makes her seem more confident than she is. Perhaps you can understand where Iām going with this?

Did not expect that to come tumbling out lmao, but regardless of whether you end up liking Hazbin or not, my hope is that you engage with the material with as much effort and diligence as you can.
Iām currently going through a quite bad procrastination paralysis, so have my overworked Lucifer sketch! Thank Faber-Castell for the vibrancy of their colour pencils! I got some better ones because my previous ones allowed next to no layering. Thereās a little sneak-peak for my Alastor sketch but Iām not quite done with him! Bachelor proposal is due tomorrow. Itās only 250 words - practically nothing!

I love this woman to filth, Iāve really enjoyed giving her this somewhat elaborate bob. - Honestly so much fun to draw! Figuring out multiple angles for it has been hard though lmao. I drew this in a friendās sketchbook while I was procrastinating my logic homeworkšŖ Somehow my brain awakened in multiple dimensions and Iāve managed to steal a measure of skill from an alternate, far more talented version of myself.

Something that ISNāT fanart for once! I was just doodling, trying to figure out a more simplistic way of drawing - as one does! I imagine these two to be enviously in love with each other without knowing it - truly pushing the boundaries of envy and narcissism. What is more prideful than loving someone that wishes to be like you, and in turn wishing to be like them? Toxic Yuri to the extreme, perhaps? In any case, I want to draw more wlw ships in the future:3 Listening to āsad girlā by Dodie really awakened the concept of this dynamic in my cranium.
On another topic, I am slightly treating this blog as somewhat of a diary? - Though only to a limited degree, as any potential and current friends are free to read this as they please lol. You might see me talking about my day or about anything that interests me. Iām not limiting myself to any singular fandom, and I do want to post more original art eventually. Thatās it for now!

I managed to pass all my exams with quite decent grades! I do have some consistent issues when it comes to my writing, which Iām working hard on remedying. Hereās some Lucifers in my notebook, which I drew with some shitty colour pencils. I have also - to my own detriment - decided to take a course in LOGIC of all things. Admittedly I didnāt know what the course entailed originally, but meh. Iāve decided to actually sit down and study every week instead of doing it sporadically like Iāve done previously.
Also, new brief sketch on my friendās Ipadš„¹ sheās so nice for letting me borrow it. I for sure want to get an old ipad just to draw with. Iām in for an all-nighter for my ethics examš

I have some thoughts on Charlie.
Some ruminations on episode 3 below! SPOILER ZONE BELOW, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Episode 3!
It seems that many are unhappy with Charlieās handling of the āprove redemption worksāsituation. Iāve seen various statements about her Character being āruinedā in various ways.
I do see how many might think this.
After all, she is completely overstepping Angel Dustās boundaries again, like when she attempted to confront Valentino. (We all remember how THAT went.) It is rightfully concerning how she keeps repeating this behaviour. Furthermore, sheās impulsive to the point of confirming that sinners can be redeemed without actually considering HOW it would happen, and how heaven is involved.
Realistically speaking, this isnāt simply a āpassion projectā, and heavenās lockdown is an example of how monumental the redemption of a sinner truly is. A rational decision in this situation would be to wait to announce things until they know more.
- This is of course what a mentally healthy and well-adjusted person would do.
We have Charlie Morningstar.
She has been abandoned by both her parents at various points of her life. Her mother has been gone for nearly eight years, the date suspiciously coinciding with when the exterminations started. (That would very certainly āfreak me the fuck outā as the kids say!)
Then thereās Luciferās depression. There are no confirmed dates at all, but the implication of him locking himself away for decades, perhaps even centuries - (Going by Charlieās age, from her formative to adult years.) - is certainly going to have an effect on Charlieās well-being. The combination of one parent being absent for centuries, to the other completely abandoning her out of the blue? It explains the attention-seeking behaviour.
Iām quite certain that is what is happening. Iād even say the Hazbin Hotel itself is a direct result of that.
Lilith is gone. Charlie only has her father left. The father who never got to see the the good that came from free will. Now Charlie is making a hotel wherein human souls choose to become better with the free will the Devil gifted them.
I have two thoughts on this.
The first being that her attempt to redeem sinners - is in a way a frantic attempt to āfixā Luciferās negligence. Itās reminiscent of the naivety of a child āIf I fix my fatherās issues, maybe he will be well enough to love meā
The second being along the same lines - With Charlieās choice of campaigning for redemption being related to her somewhat performative virtuosity. āIf Iām good enough, maybe my parents will love me.ā
The Hazbin Hotel embodies the very same thing. āIf Iām good enough, maybe God will love me.ā
To somewhat lamely conclude, I believe Charlieās character is QUITE consistent with her backstory, and it actually explains the idealism that lead to the creation of the Hazbin Hotel in the first place. Her character hasnāt been āruinedā since the pilot in any sense of the word - I feel the confirmation of her attention-seeking behaviour- (which continues on in episode 4, but thatās neither here nor there) -actually deepens her character quite a bit. Iām expecting her future character development to happen after a falling out with- (Say it with me folks!) -Angel Dust or Vaggie! Sheāll probably get a reality check after that, and I cannot wait to see her actually confront her own issues.
I would love to dive deeper into Charlieās character, but I presently have an assignment that is burning a hole in my mind.
A Sans sketch from earlier this year, in July I believe? Was really on that deltarune train back then but now Iām obsessed with Hazbin hotel, once again. Yes, Sans is INDEED drinking Idun tomato ketchup:3 I headcanon him trying ketchup types from all over the world.
Back in business, back to drawing! I am actually procrastinating my final semester assignment but the Radioapple obsession has me in a chokehold. I donāt post my art too often, and write even less than that, but I want to post more on Tumblr, as well as on AO3. Just need to find the time between John Milton and William Blake. (And my assignment too, of course!)

Unfortunately one personsās safe space may be another personsā trigger. Thatās ok. Simply block them, block the tag, block the word etc. They can do the same for you.
Maybe Iām just out of touch, but Iāve been around since the days of ādonāt like, donāt readā and thatās a good philosophy. If it squicks you, scroll past. If it causes you anxiety or upset, block! Plenty of people are responsive if you ask them to tag an upsetting trigger. And if theyāre dicks about it, block em.
my autistic brain hates the term "Modern AU" because it's not specific enough. It's shorthand, but it's shitty shorthand. "Modern AU" could mean other things, most of which I'm more interested in than what "Modern AU" is universally assumed to mean.
What yall mean is, like, "Modern Earth, No Magic, Alternate Universe Setting", which could have been turned into something unique and easy to read and filter like "memnaus"
But instead, it's like how the USA isn't actually the only country comprised of united states located in America, nor are its citizens the only "Americans". Imagine saying rectangle when you meant square, and expecting people to extrapolate. Is it accurate? Yes. But come on, man. Stop hogging words
What about AUs where it's the same setting but with modern amenities? (Elves in Rivendell with smartphones, Dragons getting scammed by bitcoin, there's a Starbucks on every corner in Jinlintai, dnd bards on tiktok, Link has a nintendo switch-- wait...)
What about AUs where it's modern earth but the characters are still whatever fantasy species and/or profession they started as? (Bilbo is a hobbit who lives in rural modern England, Leliana is actually French and Zevran is actually from Spain, everything is normal modern earth but Witchers just exist, Jiang Cheng lives in Yunmeng-- wait...)
What about characters from their original setting getting isekai-ed into our modern earth? That's an in-story modern alternate universe! (Shang Qinghua DOES leave and Mobei Jun fuckin follows him! King Arthur joins a Connecticut Baseball Team! Inuyasha falls through a portal and has to go to modern earth high school-- wait...)
Anyway "Modern AU" fans have fandom default privilege, and I'm cranky about language nuance. I feel like if these concepts had more well known differentiating terms, more people would think to write about them. Instead "Modern AU" means only "the characters, but stripped of their context"
Anyway anyway I propose:
"Modern Earth, No Magic, Alternate Universe Setting" or "Memnaus"
"Canon Universe With Amenities of Modern Earth" or "Cuwame"
"Modern Earth Setting, plus--" or "Mesp--" then you add whatever you're keeping, like "mesp fairies" or "mesp cultivators" or "mesp magic system"
"Isekai" is already a thing, I just think "canon character isekai-s to earth" should be more popular

I concur! I think the lack of distinction is what discourages people from reading modern AUs nowadays, especially on AO3. Itās a lot like digging through ffdotnetās fanfics never knowing what youāre going to get - I know I certainly take advantage of AO3ās tagging system to the fullest, and I hope something like this can be implemented by more people<3
