being a scott smajor fan who’s Normal about him is such an interesting experience because on the one hand you have people defending his every action and saying that he’s done nothing wrong ever and that the only reason someone would dislike him is homophobia (not true; he’s said and done various stupid shit over the years that he should absolutely be held accountable for, since he’s still a person capable of fucking up sometimes). but then on the other hand you have people treating him like he’s a uniquely evil or malicious or problematic figure in mcyt and should be held to insane standards, even when the ccs they like have made the same mistakes or worse. and it’s like. sometimes people really are being homophobic, even if they don’t realise it, even if they think they’re not. because condemning a gay man for the same shit you let straight men get away with is literally just homophobia. so it’s interesting!

by treating racism like something that's confined to the disposition of the person rather than something that is literally baked into our society, you're doing poc a disservice. it's always jumping to "he would NEVER/i would NEVER support someone like that" you need to accept the fact that you yourself will be racist at some point or another. a lot of racism is, in fact, unintentional, and it's not about who you are as a person. you don't need to be uniquely evil and already "be" a racist in order to do so. you will make mistakes and give ill informed takes and the only thing to do is own up to it and move on. this doesn't mean scott is tainted and he's the most racist man alive and we can never engage with his character again. it means that literally anyone can be racist regardless of intentions because our society is racist by default and you have to be actively unlearning these things and growing from your mistakes
