The so-called "Bieber effect" has had a lasting impact on this delicate ecosystem. In the music video, Bieber is seen walking on the moss, rolling down the hills and walk through the river. Inspired by these scenes, many visitors have tried to recreate them, often stepping off marked paths and onto the vegetation. Icelandic moss is extremely fragile and can take decades to recover once damaged.
