Megamind: the Musical
Incomplete notes for a musical version of Megamind
The songs start with a Disney, kid-friendly feel. As Megamind accepts his position as a villain, the songs steer to rock
Opening number: Young Megamind singing a song called “Destined for Greatness.” The whole thing is in reference to Megamind’s dad saying “you’re destined for–” at the beginning of the movie. Young Megamind is trying to sing about all his inventive plans and his hope to do something amazing to make everyone like him, but he gets cut off every time he tries to say “greatness” by his machines failing or authority figures yelling at him. The only time Megamind actually gets to complete his statement and say that he’s “destined for greatness” is at the end of the song, where Megamind accepts that the only thing he’s capable of being is a villain so he’s going to be the best villain ever.
I want to add a few more songs @friendlyneighborhoodheretic
°Fearless Reporter
Before finding the Megamind's hideout, and inspired by her conversation with Bernard, Roxanne sings about her work as a reporter. She describes how much she loves her job and how deeply she admires courage and determination. The song subtly foreshadows her falling in love with Bernard/Megamind.
°This Time I'll Win!
At the fake observatory, after Roxanne tells Megamind "Your plans never work", he laughs and bursts into song. Throughout the number, Roxanne and Minion occasionally interrupt with spoken lines. Megamind proudly recounts many of his most brilliant schemes over the years, while Roxanne points out the flaw in each one. Megamind then reflects on how Metro Man always managed to foil his plans—but insists that today will be different. The word "routine" is repeated several times throughout the song.
° I'm on Top / Metro Man No More / No One Can Stop Me Now
Megamind's triumphant victory song after taking over Metro City. The number plays over a montage of him ruling the city, celebrating his long-awaited success while discovering that absolute victory isn't quite as satisfying.
° In Another Life... Maybe
After their park date, Megamind reflects on his growing feelings for Roxanne."What is this feeling?" he admitting that he always believed he was destined to be alone and had never even allowed himself to imagine romance."The villain never gets the girl," Yet... maybe this time could be different. Throughout the song, however, it's clear that deep down he knows it can only end badly.
° Megamind vs. Titan: The Birth of a New Hero
Following the rejection in the rain, Megamind sings about losing everything and accepting that he will always be the villain. The song begins as a deeply emotional ballad before gradually transforming into an energetic anthem as he prepares to face the city's new hero. "If I'm destined to be a villain... then I'll become the greatest villain the world has ever seen"
° This Time We'll Win!
After Megamind and Minion reconcile, they perform a short, comedic duet while brainstorming ways to defeat Titan. They throw out increasingly ridiculous ideas, rejecting each one until Megamind finally comes up with the perfect plan.Instead of revealing it to the audience, he whispers it into Minion's ear, ending the song on a cliffhanger.
° How we'd pull off the shapeshifting watch bit
A quick change could be used: Megamind activates his watch, and during that moment the actor performs a rapid costume change while remaining hidden by lighting effects or a stage element. A second option would be using a theatrical double. When Megamind activates the watch, the lighting changes, a visual effect occurs, and the ensemble can surround him for a few seconds to conceal the switch. In this version, Bernard would also change his voice, which would make the transformation feel much more convincing, lol.
I want to live in an alternate universe where this is a reality. Imagine all the never-before-seen scenes we could have… Bernard with more screen time, longer flashbacks to Megamind's school days, his many failed inventions, Metroman's family life, Roxanne's other co-worker, Minion's perspective...
Anyway, now I know that if I go out with a man who wears a blue sweater and a brown jacket, I have to prepare myself for a radical physical change.
the true evil twink of the movie
Okay, some more thoughts from my recent Megamind rewatch:
I find it so interesting that when Megamind first asks Roxanne if she still would like to be with him if he was someone else, he focuses entirely on looks.
His first attempt at testing the waters about Roxanne potentially maybe also being willing to date the real him is asking her if she would still like him if he looked different (more like his real self) and he's visibly relieved when she confirms that she would! Sure, it's a much safer initial approach than trying to ask her if she would date someone who does what he did as a villain as that would likely make her more suspicious of why he would ask that so that could be a part of it. And Megamind is also very much aware that his actions are villainous and a major obstacle to a potential relationship between them as his reaction shows when Roxanne says that actions are more important. But his utter relief at her answer about his looks clearly shows that he considered just his looks, beyond any connection to his actions or personality, a significant obstacle as well.
It's so interesting to me because it's the clearest admission we get from Megamind that his looks and how unusual they are compared to humans as a whole are of concern to him. It's something I think everybody intrinsically thinks of when seeing Megamind's childhood, that a signficant part of why he was initially bullied by his peers (and arguably the adults around him) has to do with his obviously alien looks on top of growing up in a prison and the mayhem his inventions cause. But we get very little clear evidence of that, noone obviously insults them and Megamind doesn't mention them in connection to why nobody liked him. We do get several more subtle hints though, Megamind explicitly mentions Metro Man's flawless hair as something that he was blessed with (in contrast to himself), Bernard calls his head "grotesquely large" in the one short meeting that they have when he thinks it's just a bad costume and Megamind calling himself "incredibly handsome" feels like overcompensation on his part. And this approach from Megamind to asking Roxanne pretty much confirms it: In his experience, before any of his actions, people judge him based on his looks alone and how different they are to everyone around him. It's something he feels like he can't escape and 100% something he is insecure about. It's even the first thing he tries to argue with once Roxanne exposes his lie, basically that his appearance doesn't mean he is a villain, before Roxanne counters that his actions very much make him a villain, no matter his appearance. And Megamind knows his actions are a major problem, his reaction makes that more than obvious, but he still considers his appearance a major problem as well, despite Roxanne never making such a comment, and feels the need to argue against it.
I love how intertwined this all is and how the film doesn't feel the need to beat you over the head with it but leaves it at these few striking comments. I just love this film and this character so much!

Megamind, incredibly handsome criminal genius and master of all villainy in real life.
Alike much? Anyone dare a guess whose face was used as reference for making this?
Bowg! Bowg!
Check out the one I did of realistic Roxanne
Should I do Metroman, Hal and Bernard as well?
OMG, are you the one who created that image?! It became a meme! Basically, a Spanish-speaking YouTuber made a theory video about what Megamind 2 would be like and used that image as the thumbnail. The video went viral (though it's unfortunately been deleted). The phrase "Lo cambia todo" ("This Changes Everything") became a meme

Damn it, we got a spin-off and we still know absolutely nothing about Reigen's personal life. At this point, you could tell me he just emerged from a hole in the ground as a fully grown adult, and I'd believe you.
