You have been an oddity since you were born.
Your mother passed just days after giving birth to you, and the wound never healed. Perhaps it would have, had you been a boy, yet the Gods decided to ignore your father once more.
You and Rhaenyra met when your father was called to bend the knee to the new heir. King Viserys, despite your house's low status, recognized the long service of your forefathers as Kingâs and Queen's Guard. The way the story went, your ancestor (A/N) (L/N) saved Aegon the Conqueror from an attempted assassination. To show his gratitude, the Conqueror offered your ancestor a permanent place as protector of the crown. Seeing as Rhaenyra had Cole appointed to her entourage, you were appointed to the young lady Alicent. She took a liking to you immediately, especially after her relationship with the Princess began to deteriorate.
Still being sworn to the crown, you got to see Rhaenyra quite a bit. Getting to gaze upon that full head of snow-white hair, those beautiful eyes, and that wonderful laugh⌠you cursed yourself the day you accepted that you were in love with Rhaenyra. It was a sin to love the heir as a lowborn, even more so because you were a woman. Your father could only take so much unconventionality from you.
The tides would soon turn in Kingâs Landing. Following the death of Queen Aemma, Rhaenyra found her own comfort in you. You shared your own motherâs death and offered understanding toward the dreaded loneliness that Rhaenyra most definitely felt.
The slums of Kingâs Landing were the last place you expected to find yourself tonight. The smell hit you first, your body moving uncharacteristically fast among the common folk. Having shed your armor, the cape and cloak served to conceal your identity. You could lose your head for simply receiving the letter. The small parchment was placed on your pillow as you returned from your guard duties, the stress shedding from your shoulders only to hit you full force as you read the words on the paper.
âI need to see you. Follow the sand.â â R.
Your legs felt weak, a hand moving to hold onto your bedpost. First, your heart picked up pace; next, your mind began to remember. Remember things that you wanted to bury. It started to remember the woman you loved the most. Your eyes scanned the ground, following small traces of sand until you reached the docks. While no one was there at first, a hand placed itself upon your shoulder, and your dagger was at Rhaenyraâs throat before she could even blink. She had donned a Septaâs outfit, her beautiful features looking rather dull in the gray cloth. âNot the best way to greet an old friend,â Rhaenyra chuckled as you placed your dagger down.
âYou know better than to sneak up on me like that.â
âThat I do⌠Itâs good to see you, (Y/n)⌠you look well,â Rhaenyra spoke rather tentatively, almost as if she didnât know how to speak to you anymore. Years apart would do that, you supposed. The sun was warm when Rhaenyra left for Dragonstone. You were on the dock with Ser Cole when she was being escorted to the ship. Through awkward goodbyes, the Princess bid you well, and you could swear that Cole was staring daggers at you after the ship departed.
King Viserys passed a few nights later.
Now, here you stood. On the sandy docks of Kingâs Landing, meeting face-to-face with someone who could very well get you killed. Considering the current situation with Rhaenyra, you dreaded why she had asked you to meet. Gulping awkwardly, you straightened your back and spoke gently. âItâs good to see you as well, princessâŚâ You said, acknowledging Rhaenyraâs reaction to you refuting her rightful title of âyour grace.â You were no Aegon sympathizer, that much was clear. But your oath to his mother overshadowed any objections you might have. Maybe, as one of the most loyal people to her, you could steer Alicent to see the error of her ways.
You clung to the power of all those years of loyalty to your Queen.
âDare I ask why youâre here? Barely a sunâs turn past and the King had the Kingsguard string up the ratcatchers,â you ventured, probing the air with your words. âHeâs out for blood now, if not before,â you added, prodding. âI⌠I came seeking peace,â Rhaenyra replied, her violet eyes unwavering upon you. You resented that, hoping she would at least spare you her sublime. Her response drew a sardonic chuckle from your lips, but Rhaenyra remained unmoved by your jest. She had expected a far warmer welcome than what she was getting, and this⌠coldness between you was unfamiliar to the Targaryen heir.
âYou went to see Alicent in the SeptâŚâ You ventured. âHow did you-?â She asked. âWe all find our comfort during these trying times, I suppose,â you said. Alicent never let you come with her to the Sept. You could gamble on why that was. Her conviction to the faith was something she always approached alone, despite your insistence to simply be there to look out. But⌠if there was anything that being a protector taught you⌠it was to look out for details. Alicent forbade you from the Sept because she went there to hide.
To hide from her feelings.
To hide from you.
She looked at you the same way you looked at Rhaenyra. This existence unfolded as a tragic tale in its most sorrowful form. Yet, it was in the shadow of this sorrow that you felt the most alive. Most wanted and hated all at the same time. âAnd did you find it?â You asked. âThis peace?â You asked again, perhaps more irritated than you wished to come off. âNo⌠Alicent has made her stance clear⌠but I needed to be sure,â Rhaenyra explained. âSure that she knew what she was doing the night she declared Aegon heir?â You questioned harshly. It was an unexpected anger that bubbled over, an anger that was ignored and buried because you could not bear thinking ill of the woman you loved. It wasnât even thinking ill of her; it was the fact that Rhaenyra was desperate to keep an already warring realm from destroying itself. "Do you blame me?" Rhaenyra countered, her voice tinged with sorrow. "My father is gone. I wasn't there to say goodbye⌠My sons learned of their grandsire's death from a raven!" Her words poured out, raw with emotion.
With you, Rhaenyra felt safe to release the torrent of her feelings. The years you spent apart had only made the lady of Dragonstone miss you more. "I was cast out from my own home, all because rumors slander my honor," she lamented, referring to the malicious rumors about her sons' true parentage. You ignored the pang in your chest.
Alicent was partially, if not fully, responsible for the start of those rumors. You had heard her one night, the night after Lucerys was born. She was alone with Ser Criston, which was odd enough, considering that you were the one who usually stood watch over the Queenâs chamber. âRhaenyra would think us blind if she thinks we believe that Laenor is the father of those boys,â she had said. Her malice was unfortunately very familiar. Alicent had spoken ill of Rhaenyra to you before. âShe will try anything to weave people into her web⌠it is her way. It has always been,â Criston had said. You nearly gave yourself away, your fist having clenched so tightly that a strap of your glove snapped.
âYouâve had enemies since your father married⌠I know this well,â you said. âSo let me ask once more: why have you summoned me here?â
âFight for me, (Y/n).â
You wanted to scream. You wanted to take her by her shoulders and kiss her, tell her of all the love you had stored all these years. Yet, your feet remained planted on the cold ground, your face one of fear. Rhaenyra, despite the growing pit in her own stomach, moved to take your hand. The touch sent a shocking sensation through your body. You stared at her with a look that could only be described as pitiful. âYouâve always been more than just a guard to me⌠weâre friends,â she said, and you hated that you felt disappointed.
You had, foolishly, hoped that she would say that you were more than that. Perhaps⌠all those times she confided in you were just that, a friend being there for a friend. You swallowed awkwardly. âRhaenyra⌠I canât,â you said, brokenly. âMy father swore an oath to your father all those years ago⌠I swore an oath when your father called me to Otto Hightowerâs sideâŚâ you said. â... you are asking me to go against all that I am.â
âI am asking you to defend the true heir. You think your oath means anything to Aegon?â Rhaenyra questioned sharply. âHe will have you discarded as soon as he sees no more use for you.â
âThe Dowager Queen would not allow that.â
âYouâve seen what sheâs willing to do for that boy,â Rhaenyra said with finality. There was no denying that. You wouldnât be here if Alicent hadnât loved her son as much as she did. Here, among the salt and sand, you had a choice to make. It was in moments of great difficulty that you found yourself thinking about your father the most. Despite your more than strained relationship, your father had his way of showing you what love he did have for you. And that way was by giving counsel during times of great peril. âStay true to the oath, daughter. It shanât lead you astray,â he had said, on the few nights he spent at home.
The oath always led back to Alicent.
A girl you grew up with⌠a woman who counted on you for support and protection.
Alicent hid Aegonâs victims, covering up what he did. Yet, your oath and your honor as a queenâs guard was the only thing keeping you at her side. Whatever Alicent felt for you, it meant nothing in the face of keeping Rhaenyra away from the throne. You finally raised your gaze toward Rhaenyra, feeling sick at the hopeful glint in her eyes. The words that you uttered would kill you every time you thought back to them.
âMy oath means too much to me, Rhaenyra⌠Iâm sorry.â
â(Y/n), please, Iââ
âPatrols will start soon, youâd best leave.â
Rhaenyraâs lips parted in quiet disbelief. She began to hate the white cloak you wore, reminding her that you were among the likes of Cole. You were too good to be in the same rank as him. Rhaenyra felt a pair of lips press against her forehead, your form being closer than it had ever been allowed to be. You leaned down to her ear, your stare gone and serious.
âI hope to never have to see you again⌠princess. Go, before I sound the alarm.â
Her stare was nearly blank, another small plea escaping her lips. Looking into your eyes made Rhaenyra believe that there was perhaps something that she had missed with you. You could have given her so much and now you were being taken from her.
The two of you exchanged a look as Rhaenyra walked toward a small cave opening on the beach. That look was a simple farewell for now. You both knew that at some point, you would either die at the hand of her men or she would die at yours.
Maybe in another life⌠Rhaenyra would have understood her feelings.
Maybe in another life⌠you would have chosen her.
Maybe in another life⌠you would have met differently.
You left the beach soon thereafter, joining the patrols well into the night, tucking the letter you found on your pillow in your chest plate.
Come what may, you knew that you would see your dragon queen again. Whether at the end of her sword or hers at yours, you would sooner die by her hand than break your oath.

Paul was slightly ashamed by the way he hid his face when you jumped, his fear of heights acting up just by looking at you. Your body was absolutely aerial and it was a wonder how more people didn't faint like Paul nearly did. But as soon as you landed, hands linked with your partnerâs, Paul could acknowledge your beauty.
You had to be the most killer babe he had ever seen and believe him when he says that he has seen a lot. Marko seemed to be of the same mind, though he already had his fill of ogling you when he saw you in town.
His bright eyes moved over to Dwayne, who even in his quiet disposition, Marko could tell that he was transfixed. It was the way Dwayne's eyes followed you, the way his mouth was set in a permanent yet small smile. While the anxiety was definitely there, Dwayne was glad that he came and even more so that he didnât bring Laddie. Not that the boy would be afraid, but Dwayne was sure that he wouldn't be able to contain himself with how amazing he found your act. The jump was over in a flash and you and your partner began the rest of your routine. Having done it a million times over rehearsal, your mind wandered to other places. The Santa Carla square was so beautiful for such a small town. It was lively and calm at the same time, each person moving in simultaneous yet messy harmony. Tourists and people alike and you wondered what it would be like to be among them.
Not ogled by them.
Soon, you were brought back by the frenzy of claps that followed the conclusion of your act, both you and Ricky now on the floor, bowing and accepting the flowers thrown at you. It wasnât until you both entered your dressing room that you could both breathe. Your body fell onto a chair and Ricky made quick work of a water bottle that was placed by the vanity. âGood job.ââ He said through hearty gulps. You smiled, giving him a thumbs up. But, your moment of congratulation turned sour when the door opened and he walked in.
ââKids, I have to sayâŚyouâve made me proud tonight.ââ He said, taking his top hat into his hands. Had it not been for the thousand times youâve heard him say it, you would have thought he was being genuine. The Ringmaster was never proud. He was only pleased for a short amount of time before he demanded bigger and better things from his performers. Their health did not matter. âThe crowd is losing its mind out there. The tickets are all gone and boy, did they go quickly.ââ The Ringmaster expressed with glee. â(Y/n), I want you to jump farther next time.ââ
âWhat?ââ You inquired, eyes wide and your attention now fully on him. Ricky tensed up, you could feel it. âPeople pay higher for farther, my dear. Besides, Iâm sure Ricky here will do his best to catch you.ââ The Ringmaster expressed with a very eerie grin. âBut sheâll never make the jump! The ropes are already thin enough, what do you expect-ââ Ricky was on the floor before he could utter another word. The Ringmaster held his cane on one hand, hat on the other. Through your gasp, he tsked gently. You were now beside Ricky, cradling his now bleeding head. You looked up at the Ringmaster with such hate in your (e/c) eyes, for a moment, he actually felt afraid.
Of course, he didnât let it show.
âI donât pay you to disobey.ââ The Ringmaster expressed coldly. Turning his heel, he left the two of you to pick yourselves up. Under Rickyâs swearing and your drumming heartbeat, the both of you shared a look. It could only be described as some sort of silent agreement. You two had to leaveâŚand fast.
The show soon concluded and the boys were finding virtually every excuse to still stick around. Marko and Paul were actively trying to find ways to meet the performers. It took them a comically long time to remember that they were, in fact, vampires and that they could hypnotize literally anyone to do what they wanted. Thatâs how the four found themselves with you and Ricky, them almost immediately noticing something wrong with the both of you.
You looked up, ready to reprimand them for being there.
Partly out of habit, but also because the Ringmaster didnât like having witnesses to his behavior. David raised his hands. âWe arenât here to hurt you, kitten. Whatâs wrong with your friend?ââ David declared with a soft chuckle. Your eye roll wasn't lost on him, but David was more keen on letting it slide. You were beautiful, that much was true. And by the looks of it, you had the personality to match. David would have to leave the future planning for later, though.
They smelled the blood and David was grateful that they had eaten before coming here. A small meal, just some guy who was getting too handsy with some girls. Rickyâs head wound needed immediate attention, though Dwayne could tell that it was not fatal. David had to fight the physical recoil that he was feeling, some rather harsh memories trying to rise to the surface. MaxâŚwhenever David disobeyedâŚwould use any piece of wood, pole, whatever he had on hand to teach him a âlessonââ. David wasnât allowed to defend himself, otherwise Marko, Paul, hell even Laddie could be punished instead.
David still gets phantom pains from the beatings sometimes.
âItâs no concern of yours. You four have to go.ââ You snapped unintentionally but you were scared. He could return any moment and possibly hurt you more.
The boys exchanged glances with one another, more so looking to David to see what to do next. He motioned for all of them to move behind him, as to not appearâŚthreatening. âLook kittenâŚwhat makes you think we can't help you?â
âYou don't even know us.â
âBut we fucking have eyes.â David said, perhaps a tad harsher than he intended. You flinched at the swear and it took everything for Dwayne to not take you in his arms right now. You sighed, âWhy would you help me?â You asked. If there was anything this life taught you, it was that trust was a rare commodity.
Hell, you and Rick didn't become friends till much later in this circus.
âWe know a thing or two about assholes, babe.â Paul interjected, his face stretching into a small grin. You didn't want to know what he meant but you understood. âHow would you help us? He literally owns everything here. We don't have anywhere to go.â You said. âHe always finds us.ââ You pressed, your voice getting more and more emotional. You felt a hand on your shoulder, the quiet one. While his face was cold, you could tell that he was trying to be there for you.
David stepped forward, his voice firm but gentle. "We have our ways, kitten. And we won't let him lay a hand on you again."
You glanced at Ricky, who nodded in silent agreement. Despite the fear and uncertainty gripping your heart, you made a decision. "Okay," you said softly, "we'll trust you." If these guys could get you out, you wanted to leap into the chance. If anything, you and Ricky would go out together.
David nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Good. Now, let's get you out of here."
With a plan hastily forming in his mind, David led the way, with the others following closely behind. As you made your way through the maze of tents and caravans, dodging people and other performers who gave you strange looks, you couldn't shake the feeling of guilt mingled with a newfound sense of hope. There were so many others here, looking for that same chance that Ricky and you were getting now. Dwayne seemed to sense what you were feeling, choosing to gently push you forward. âYou canât save everyone, (Y/n).ââ
And you believed him.
â
Finally, you reached the outskirts of the circus grounds, where the darkness of the night enveloped you like a comforting cloak. David turned to face you, his expression serious. "Listen carefully," he said, his voice low, "we'll take you somewhere safe. But you must promise to stay hidden until we deal with your little friend."
You and Ricky nodded in agreement, your trust in these strangers growing stronger by the minute.Your feelings were foreign to you, feeling a sense of excitement everytime one of them so much as looked at you. You actually wanted to be around them, wanted to know themâŚ
âMaybe stop making goo goo eyes at them, (Y/n).ââ Ricky laughed and braced himself for the punch that was surely coming. The boys chuckled, Marko moving closer. He felt even more attached to you, seeing as he was the one thay saw you first. He grabbed your hand gently. âCome one, ill take you two somewhere safe.ââ
âWhat about your friends?ââ
âWeâll be alright kittenâŚleave everything to us.ââ David assured. While still feeling disquieted, you followed Marko with Ricky.Â
â
"This is where we live," Marko introduced, swatting the curtain "entrance" away. They had taken you to an old cave near the bay and if you were honest, this was weirder than living in a circus. It amazed you that they even slept here. Ricky was left to rest, his body immediately succumbing to sleep, leaving you and the curly blonde alone. Your hands fidgeted nervously, your eyes jumping from corner to corner.
âLookâŚI never got to properly thank you.â
âIt's nothing, sweets.â
âNo. It's not nothing,â you said. Markoâs eyes widened, not expecting you to get too close. âNo one has ever done anything like this for usâŚweâŚRicky is the only person in this world that I consider family.â You spoke so intently, Marko was just about getting lost in your voice. You gently took a curl in your fingers, leaning in and placing a kiss to the corner of Markoâs lips. Ignoring the strange coldness, you grinned. âWhat I'm trying to say, Marko isâŚthank you,â you said.
As the silence stretched between you and Marko, the air crackled with an unspoken tension. You both leaned closer, drawn inexplicably towards each other. Feeling your breaths mingle, you searched for the courage to lean forward and properly thank your savior.
Which was comedic, since you knew that you felt like this for all of them.
You and Marko waited, standing closer as you did.
Soon, David and the others entered the cave looking a tad moreâŚbloody. You knew what that meantâŚand it scared you. If these guys were willing to go so far for you, you didn't want to think about them going against you. Maybe you should go to the police, but then againâŚthe Ringmaster would just have you buried, it would be like you and Ricky were never even there.
âNo need to fret, babe, it isnât ours-ow! What the hell Dwayne?!ââ
âWhat happened out there?â you asked, your voice tinged with concern.
David stepped forward, his expression grave yet determined. âWe took care of the Ringmaster,â he said, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Relief flooded through you, mingled with a sense of gratitude towards these strangers who had come to your aid. Despite the chaos surrounding you, you felt a strange sense of belonging in their presence, as if fate had brought you together for a reason.
âThank you,â you said, the words carrying the weight of all you had been through. âFor everything.â
The corners of David's lips quirked up in a rare smile, his eyes reflecting a depth of understanding that went beyond words. âWe've got each other's backs,â he replied simply, his voice a reassuring anchor in the storm.
As the night wore on and the adrenaline of the escape began to fade, you and Ricky found yourselves drawn to these boys. And so, the both of you were surrounded by the comforting presence of your newfound allies, you knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, you would face them together.
In the safety of that dimly lit cave, amidst the echoes of whispered promises and shared laughter, you felt a glimmer of hope for the futureâa future where you were no longer alone, but part of a family forged in blood and bound by loyalty and love.
Rhaenyra and Fem!Reader being forced to marry would include:
For the lovely anon, really hope you enjoy! All credit for the gif goes to the original creator!
First off, your entire relationship would be unconventional to Westerosi society.
You would probably come from a rather noble house, one closer to King Viserys's court.
Rhaenyra and you would meet when you were just girls, Rhaenyra being around five years your senior. (Rhaenyra is like in her early thirties and reader is mid-twenties when they marry).
While you two definitely are fond of one another, I don't see the marriage as something particularly welcomed by either of you.
It mostly comes down to the blatant disregard shown toward both you and Rhaenyra.
Back to the marriage itself, it's arranged by Viserys when he tries to secure a powerful ally and for the most part, the marriage is kept a secret, at least until Rhaenyra ascends the throne.
The first years are rough, you and Rhaenyra staying rather distant from one another.
I see some sort of resentment being built up between the two of you, each seeing the other as someone they are stuck with, rather than married to.
It isn't until vicious rumors about Rhaenyra begin to chase her around court that you two would grow closer.
Rhaenyra would notice you standing closer to her when Alicent or Cole would speak to her. Your stance would be... defensive almost.
You don't want to impede on any of Rhaenyra's space, you thinking that she wouldn't want or need your protection. It surprised you when, under the shade of the Godswood, Rhaenyra took your hand and kissed your cheek.
Things would definitely change after that.
You would say "I love you" to one another under the Godswood.
Rhaenyra takes you on rides with Syrax when you ask her to.
I see you as someone who would understand Rhaenyra's position as the first female heir, and you would actually do your best to understand the presence of Harwin.
The marriage would grow more loving and healthy as time goes on, and the happenings in the last episodes would only make your bond with Rhaenyra stronger

Have you watched Steven Universe? If so, what do you think of it? Love your fics!
Steven universe has a special place in my heart. I started watching it when I was a kid and now that it has concluded, I find that kid me would be happy with the ending. I love it to bits and I wish I could rewatch it again.
Goddamn, Shit-Sucking Vampires Ch. 17 | Poly!Lost Boys x OC (18+ ONLY)
Vera is an unusually vicious bloodsucker whoâs never stuck in one place for very longâŚuntil a mysterious feeling pulls her right to the murder capital of the world: Santa Carla, California. Now, she needs to figure out why exactly sheâs there, where she fits in amongst the boardwalkâs nighttime denizens, and how to cope with her own personal vampire-related problems. Poly Lost Boys/OC, starts just before the movie *MULTI PART SERIES*
Michael Emerson was tucked safely in bed in his new room that night. Sure, he was a little pissed off about that girlâŚokay, he was downright agitated. He felt desperate to meet someone, anyone in Santa Carla, and he had his heart set on the cute brunette from the boardwalk. The image of her face was seared into his mind, her smile beaming at him whenever he closed his eyes. He needed to know who she was, and he didnât care if the guys she hung out with were criminals or low lives or gang bangers. In the morning, heâd go out and look for a job, and in the evening, heâd head to the boardwalk without his annoying little brother so that he might actually have a chance to find his mystery girl and have a real conversation with her.
Yeah, he had it all planned out. He had noticed how the bikers dressed, with their leather jackets and dangly earrings. There was bound to be a spot in town where he could find himself a jacket and some cooler sunglasses than the ones he already owned. If that girl liked bad boys, then he could make himself look the part, couldnât he? Sam would probably give him shit for it, but he didnât know anything. He paraded around in oversized designer shirts all day and stuck out like a sore thumb everywhere he went. At least Michael was making an attempt to fit in.
As he tried and failed to get to sleep, he wondered who that girl was. Santa Carla was a weird place full of weird people, but she looked soâŚnice. So normal. She didnât look like she should be hanging around guys like that. And what was the deal with her grumpy friend? Michael thought she was hot, too, but more in a way that made him feel like she might cut his balls off, and he wasnât so sure he was into thatâŚand besides, she had totally made out with the Twisted Sister reject, hadnât she? And that guy had glared daggers at Michael, so it was probably a better idea not to go after girls with boyfriends.Â
His eyes suddenly shot open.
Did the brunette have a boyfriend?Â
She hadnât seemed all that thrilled to climb on the back of Billy Idolâs bike, but the guy hadnât forced her. She went willingly, away from Michael and straight towards him, but there wasnât any kissing or groping or even words exchanged. So were they together? Did things like that even matter in Santa Carla? Michael was the new guy in town, and that gang had all been watching him like they wanted to kick his ass just for being there. Backing off would be the smart thing to do, the thing least likely to get him beat up. He knew he should probably just cut his losses and accept that he wasnât cool enough for a girl who hung out with guys like that, and he knew that he probably didnât want to get involved with whatever wild shit that gang got into. But was he gonna give up? Was he gonna do the smart thing?
Hell no.Â
He rolled over, trying to get comfortable. Yeah, tomorrow heâd go work on his new look, and heâd totally win that girl over. At the very least, maybe if he looked the part, the guys she hung around might respect him. He already had a bike, even if it wasnât as cool as theirs, and a new city meant that he could leave his old self behind and make something new. The thought was a comfort, and he finally drifted off to sleep, safe and sound, oblivious to the horrors that so often plagued Santa Carla at night.Â
-0-
Those horrors had names, of course.
âMarko! Hurry it up!â David snapped from the cave entrance.Â
âIâm coming, Christ!â Marko rolled his eyes, letting the pigeon he held in his hand go to fly up to its roost.Â
âYou pay more attention to those damn birds than you do me,â David sneered as Marko approached.Â
âOh, Iâm sorry,â he said, voice dripping with sarcasm. âI didnât realize I was neglecting you, dearâŚâ
David wrinkled his nose as Marko put a hand on his chest and leaned in, batting his eyelashes. âYouâre obnoxious.â
âIâll be sure to have dinner on the table by four, honey, please forgive meââ
âHey, uh, what about my dinner?â Paul asked impatiently. âYouâre holdinâ us up, David said he had somethinâ exciting plannedââ
âCanât you tell Iâm smoothing things over with my loving husband?â Marko snapped at him, dropping the atomic housewife act entirely.Â
âYeah, well Iâm hungry!â Paul hissed.
A moment later they were lunging at each other, and Vera was cackling in delight from her perch on Dwayneâs back. David still hadnât told any of them who he was planning on hunting, but now that they were all back together again and all the sad talk seemed to be behind them, she was just glad to be going out to feed in the first place. She could really go for a bite after such a weird evening.Â
Laddie and Star were in bed already, the former asleep while the latter stayed up to read a book and fantasize about the boy she had met on the boardwalk. By the time Vera and David had gotten back from visiting Max, Star had already tucked herself away behind the silks and lace, and they had more pressing matters to attend to than bothering her.Â
Like corralling Paul and Marko and encouraging them to at least make their way outside while they fought.Â
âWhere are we going?â Dwayne asked as he stepped around Markoâs flailing arms, very narrowly avoiding his claws.Â
âBack towards town,â David smirked.Â
âWho do you wanna go after?â Vera asked, resting her chin on Dwayneâs shoulder as he carried her.
Davidâs smirk turned into a grin. âGreg and Shelly.â
Dwayne paused in surprise, and then his lips spread into a grin of his own. A dangerous growl started up in the back of his throat, a low, guttural sound that Vera could feel in her very bones. He was already breathing hard in anticipation, the dark brown of his irises melting into that striking, predatory gold that signified shifting. His grip on her legs tightened and she felt claws piercing her flesh, and when she looked at the others, she saw that they were faring similarly. Paul and Marko were back on their feet already, Paul trembling with excitement while Marko gnawed at his thumb, both staring at David with wild eyes.Â
He just laughed that cruel laugh and took to the sky.Â
Vera could have let go of Dwayne to fly on her own, but he was still holding onto her as he leapt after David. She had to bite her lip to keep herself from laughing at his eagerness to tear Greg limb from limb, and as they flew along the bay, the boys kept filling her head with images of what they wanted to do to their victims.Â
Paul was hoping to rip Shellyâs throat out, plain and simple. Heâd been waiting forever to finally eat her, and he wasnât going to waste any time if he got to her first. Marko was planning on gutting Greg like a pig, taking extra pleasure in imagining how his guts would spill out of him and the look on his face when he realized what was happening. David just wanted to tear them both apart, go for a major arteryâwhichever he found firstâand let the blood spray out as their terrified hearts pumped it out for him.Â
And Dwayne wanted to pull Gregâs spine out, clean and fast and simple.
Vera felt a shiver run through her. She didnât know whose thoughts to focus on, the four of them all too excited to quiet down. This was more chaotic than when they had hunted Vernon down, and they were more vicious this time around. She could tell how much they absolutely loathed Greg, and Shelly was just an unfortunate girl who was into the wrong slimeball.Â
Whatâs the deal with these two, anyway? She asked, trying to send her thoughts cutting through the barrage of gore they were all thinking up. Sheâd encountered the humans before, sure, and they were less than chill, but she got the feeling they had a lot more history than she had seen.Â
Gregâs a grade A piece of shit, Paul answered.Â
He loves to hate us, Marko added. Thinks heâs real hot shit âcause heâs in a surf gang. They tear up our town like they own the place.Â
Heâs an obnoxious piece of shit who thinks he runs the boardwalk, David drawled. Been on my shit list since the day we met him months ago. Itâs finally time to give him a piece of my mind.
Why now? Vera asked.Â
Because itâs time we put our foot down. David growled. This is our boardwalk. Itâs time we started acting like it again. Things are changinâ and Iâm not sittinâ by anymore.Â
Yeah! Paul agreed. Iâve been waitinâ for this one for so longâŚ
I know, David grinned, laughing darkly. Now letâs fucking go.
They erupted in a series of shouts that sounded more like howls, too excited to give a shit about being quiet. If anyone down on the ground heard them, they might inclined to think Santa Carla was haunted by some sort of ghouls or bansheesâŚbut more than likely, any humans who were still out at such a late hour were too fucked up or too tired to put much stock into the unearthly cries up in the clouds. They were most likely ignored, written off as just another one of those weird Santa Carla things that tended to just happen, and as Vera clung to Dwayneâs back, she found herself glad to be living (un-living?) in a place where vampires seemed able to be themselves.
âThere they are,â she heard Paul growl.Â
She looked down and saw that they had reached a scruffy stretch of beach, and Vera recognized it as the sort of place young couples drove out to in order to spend some quality time together. The bright lights of the boardwalk were still shining across the water, the roller coaster looking especially beautiful from so far away. Why hadnât she and the boys ever wandered out that way to relax? It was the perfect spot to bring some beers and have a private party. It seemed like Greg and Shelly might be onto something, if Paulâs nose was right and they were there.
Sure enough, at the very top of the hill, parked all alone and looking particularly vulnerable, was a tan carâŚand Vera could see it rocking slightly.Â
âOh, gross,â Marko bared his teeth in an eager grin.Â
Dwayne shrugged Vera off of his back and she reluctantly let go of him, hovering in the air as she watched him roll his shoulders. He returned Markoâs grin and then looked at Paul, whose eyes were yellow and wild and full of that crazed hunger they were all feeling, and together, the two of them dove for the car.Â
âQuit!â Vera heard Shellyâs laugh from the backseat.Â
âCâmon,â Greg said between playful growls, his voice muffled. âLetâs have some funââ
Marko landed next to the car and gave it a light shove, grinning as he heard Shellyâs heartbeat suddenly speed up.Â
âWhat was that?â she hissed.Â
âWhat was what?â Greg asked.Â
 âI thought I heard somethingâŚâ
And then all hell broke loose, as usual.Â
âWhat is that?â Shelly shrieked as the roof of the car was torn off, Paul and Dwayne each holding a side.Â
The air was alive with the scent of terror, Greg and Shelly screaming so loudly that Vera thought their throats might start bleeding. It didnât matter if they did or not, thoughâtheir time had come to an end, and when David landed on the hood of the car and they twisted to look at him, they ran out of things to scream about.Â
âCâmon, baby, whatâs the matter?â Paul cackled, lunging towards Shelly. âBat got your tongue?â
Because he did.Â
He did have her tongue, clamped between his teeth, bloody and floppy and horrifying as he tore it out of her mouth. She was silent, staring at her attacker with wide eyes, raising a shaky hand to her chin. Blood gushed out, painting her teeth and lips, but she didnât scream, because she was so far beyond terror that she couldnât do anything.Â
And then Paul and David dove in, and Shelly was history.Â
Greg was trying to shout, thrashing in Markoâs grip as he was lifted into the sky. Buckets of blood rained down, Dwayne tearing him open with dark red claws that could never really be scrubbed clean after something like this. Scraps of shredded clothing fluttered down through the air, and by the time Gregâs body was allowed to hit the ground again, it was little more than an unrecognizable chunk of meat.Â
Vera, whose very teeth were aching with hunger at this point, followed it down. Her boys were extremely messy eaters, and not particularly good at getting as much out of their meals as possible. When she descended on Gregâs mangled, barely-alive body, there was plenty of blood left for her to enjoyâŚso she shredded him the rest of the way and had a little fun with it.Â
It wasnât long before they were all satisfied, faces and hands caked in blood, appetites satiated for the moment. The boys were still wild, chests heaving from the rush and the excitement even as they pushed the car into the sea and tossed the corpses in with it. They splashed around in the shallows, shoving each other, wrestling and fighting in the sand. Vera found herself dragged into the middle of it all, crushed beneath Paul as he was thrown down on top of her and hoisted onto Dwayneâs shoulders as he ran from Marko.Â
It was as if they hadnât just murdered and eaten two humans, as if they were just normal people having fun on a summer night. The ocean air was invigorating, filling up lungs that didnât always need to be filled, egging on monsters that didnât need encouragement; they were having fun, and they were free, and in that moment, it seemed like there was nothing in the entire world that could change that.Â

âThis is the life, huh?â David ginned, arm around Veraâs shoulders.Â
She glanced up at him. In the dark of the cave, his eyes seemed even brighter than they usually were, a piercing, unnatural yellow that shone even when there was no light to reflect off of them.Â
âYouâre in a good mood,â she remarked, leaning down to pull her boots off.Â
âBeen wantinâ to get rid of those two for a while now,â he said, stepping away to kick his own boots off. âOne less annoyance to deal with.â
âStill plenty of others left, though.â
His expression soured. âDonât remind me.â
âDidnât think I had to.â
Vera watched as David huffed and then ascended to the rafters in a flash, gripping a beam with clawed feet and immediately crossing his arms over his chest as if he were already asleep. She rolled her eyes at his childish behavior and followed, shoving against his side until he relented another huff and slid an arm around her.Â
âTomorrow, Starâll find that guy again and thatâll finally be over with.â David grumbled.
âWhat makes you so sure sheâll kill him right away?â Vera asked.
âYou donât think she will?â
âI think sheâs nervous.â
âShe canât afford to be nervous anymore.â He snapped. âIf she knows whatâs good for her, sheâll take care of puppy dog-eyes and finally join us.â
Vera frowned. âIt canât be fun, being caught in limbo like that. I mean, I donât see the point in not committing fully at this pointâŚâ
âI canât even remember being a half-vampire.â David shrugged. âPretty sure I had my first kill immediately.â
âAlright, no need to brag.â
âWhat?â He smirked. âI was born for this life, baby.â
âBorn to sleep all day?â
âAnd party all night.â
âHell yeah!â Paul shouted as he flew to his roost, the rafter shaking with the force of his claws gripping it.Â
âYâknow, DavidâŚâ Dwayne said, voice low and grumbly with sleep as he joined them and settled in.
âWhat, Dwayne?â He asked, sounding irritated.
ââŚyou never told us what Max said earlier.â
David was silent for a moment, grumpily squaring his jaw before he spoke again. âHeâs in love with that lady.â
The boys were silent for a moment.Â
âYou mean likeâŚâ Marko trailed off.
âYeah. I do.â
âThe redhead from the shop?â Paul asked, scoffing.
âYes. That one.â David grumbled.
âSo whyâs that our problem?â Marko huffed.
âBecause he expects us to play nice,â David hissed.
âBecause he wants to bring her into the family,â Vera interjected.Â
She was met with a series of growls and grumbles, the boys all glancing at each other warily.Â
âHe sounded serious about it,â she added.
âAnd let me guess,â Marko drawled, âhe expects us to do something about it.â
ââŚyeah, he mentioned somethingâŚâ
âHe said sheâs got two sons,â David sighed. âHe said weâve met them.â
Paul rolled his eyes. âWe meet a lot of dudes.â
âI donât suppose he said anything more helpful,â Marko hissed.Â
âOf course not.â David snapped. âBut he gave us their names. Sam and Michael.â His jaws parted in a wide yawn as he pulled Vera closer. âTomorrow night weâll find them and get a better look at who exactly the old man expects us to play nice with.â
âAnd Starâll finally have a decent meal,â Marko grinned. âBig night.âÂ
âBig night.â David agreed.Â
Big night, Vera thought, frowning to herself as she tried to settle in for the morning.Â
Heya, quick question! Do you watch Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel? Just curious! Hope you're doing well!

For the lovely anon, really hope you enjoy <3 and I am terribly sorry for the delay, part 2 and other requests will be posted this month â¤ď¸. All credit for the gif goes to the owner. <3
The circus came at night.
People often heard it before they saw it.
Marko stood among the growing crowd of Santa Carla, as the caravans and entertainers moved across the town's streets, performing their various tricks. The whole scene was an explosion of color, the eyes barely catching any hint of grey or black. Marko was mesmerized.
The circus was set to perform at the boardwalk, for three nights before they moved onto Santa Fe.
Marko followed the circus as they walked, eyeing each and everyone of them. His blue eyes stopped once the trapeze performers walked by, his eyes landing directly on you.
It wasn't often that Marko felt his breath get stuck in his chest.
You were absolutely beautiful.
More beautiful than anything he had ever seen.
You waved and smiled at the crowd, doing parts of your routine that didn't require much flying across the sky. Santa Carla was a simple town, yet you couldn't deny the charm of it. You even thought of it as a place that you could settle down.
It was a dream that was better of seen in your sleep, as there was no way that you would be allowed to leave anytime soon. The RingmasterâŚhe was a mean piece of work. He had taken you in as a child and had promised that after twenty years of loyal service, you would be allowed to leave.
You had turned twenty last month.
And when you went to him to discuss the terms of your release, he simply laughed in your face.
Your cheek still stung from when you tried to argue against it.
In some way, he was right to be hurt, you supposed. You had been with the company for a long time and it would be difficult to find another person that was as skilled or devoted as you. But he had no right to strike you and that's when you realized the Ringmaster's true colors. You wanted to leaveâŚyou had to leave.
You passed by without noticing the blue eyes following you, as Marko disappeared into the crowd, heading to the cave.
They were going to the circus tonight.
â
The sounds of shuffling caused Dwayne to look up from his book, seeing Marko enter with a mischievous grin on his face.
The brunette had to admit that he was terribly bored, so Marko's sudden giddiness peaked his interest. He rose from the couch, stretching out his arms. "What's gotten you so happy?" He asked.
"I'm glad you asked, Dwayne! Get your asses up boys, we're going to the circus!"
Marko's declaration echoed across the cave's halls, David and Paul emerging from their respective rooms. They all slept hanging from the same roof, but David had made it clear that his things would be kept from Paul's sleep grabbing.
The duo looked up at the curly headed vampire, groaning softly. "What are you on about, Marko?" David inquired, sitting down on the couch, his arms on the headboard of it.
"A circus just got into town. They got clowns and hot ladies and everything." Marko added, his mind going back to you. You were more than just a hot lady, but all the words he could use to describe you died on his tongue. He would have to let the boys see you for themselves.
David and Dwayne exchanged a look, as Paul threw an arn over Marko's shoulder. "Leave it to you to go to the circus cuz of the women!" He laughed, "But who am I to judge? I would have done the same thing!" Both Paul and Marko let out laughs at that. David rolled his eyes gently, before looking at Dwayne.
The two held an unspoken council, each expressing the same sentiment.
Why the hell not?
They hadn't been to the circus in a literal decade and if Marko wasn't lying, they would get something more out of it than just a good show.
"Fine but I'm not getting the popcorn." Dwayne admonished. David threw his hands up at his words, seemingly saying "Not it either". Marko jumped up to his feet, exclaiming his excitement loudly.
David gently rolled his eyes.
"Paul, get the bikes ready, would ya?"
â
The tents were set up next to one another, each performer getting the chance to talk amongst themselves before the show began. You sat in your trailer, your trapeze partner sitting on the couch behind you. Ricky was kinder than most, but he had a temper. He never directed it at you, mostly to anyone who got the bright idea to âmess with the freaks after the showââ. Ricky had always said that the two of you would break out of here and live life like you deserved. It was a beautiful dream, you could admit that, but with a man like the Ringmaster watching your every move, that dream opted to stay that way. He demanded perfection and through his berating and insults, both you and RIcky knew that the two of you were his best act.
And why lose the golden goose?
âYouâre fidgeting again.ââ
âCan you blame me?ââ
âJesus, (Y/n), weâve done this a million times. Itâs gonna be alright.ââ Ricky said, slapping a hand on your back. You choked slightly, sending the man a glare. âCome on, kid. You donât gotta worry about anything.ââ He said, motioning to his face with a smirk plastered on it. "You've got me." He said, earning a laugh from you.
He always knew how to make you feel better, regardless of the circumstances.
You sighed, taking one last look in the mirror before one of the performers called for every one to take their places.
"You ready, (Y/n)?"
"As I'll ever be."

Marko led the boys through the crowd, growing larger and larger with every passing minute. This circus must have been a big deal if they had this many people piling up to see it.
Dwayne cast a look around, taking in his surroundings. It had been more than a decade since he stepped foot in a place like this.
The large tent brought up things he wished to stay buried. Being treated like a prop, only to be seen and not heardâŚit hit Dwayne closer to home than he realized. David seemed to notice his friends distress, because Dwayne felt a gentle hand on his back.
We can leave if you want.
Nah, just didn't expect it to have an effect, that's all.
David offered a look that told Dwayne that they could leave at any point, should he see it fit. Dwayne didn't doubt that Paul and Marko would have given him the same optionâŚbut David was different.
They were the originals in a way.
They met first.
They watched each otherâs back more times than any of them cared to count, and DAvid and Dwayne soon formed something that neither of them thought theyâd ever have. A family. A good one, Max excluded of course. Soon, they all sat among other people, the stage set up in the center of the tent. The Ringmaster made an appearance, thanking the lovely audience of Santa Carla and Marko had to stop the urge to roll his eyes.
Paul had been to a circus or two in his lifetime and the places never failed to give him the willies. It was dark and you never really knew what was going to pop out. He had seen tigers and could never like clowns, so it was good that he could bolt whenever he wanted.
Act after act passed and the boys were just about to get up when the Ringmaster announced your act. With a very enthusiastic Marko begging them to stay, the others stood down.
The lights went out and before everyone knew it, the lights were directed to the top of the tent. Small patterns of red and yellow could be seen and by some miracle, the light hadn't blinded you.
As soon as you and Ricky made your debut, the crowd was deathly silent. You could relate, having been the spectator once yourself. The distance stretched from one side to the other, Ricky giving you a quick wave from his side. You smiled, taking a deep breath before you jumped off your platform, over the shocked gasps of the public. You grabbed onto one of the swings, your body growing goose bumps from the frigid wind.
Under the fast beat of your heart, your hands secured, you jumpedâŚ
