I am soooooo pleased to have HISTORIC / INFLUENTIAL / INSPIRATIONAL riot grrl pioneers MECCA NORMAL playing at Horses on Record Store Day!!!!!!  They'll be playing at 9pm.  Make sure you don't miss this one kiddies!!!  Every feminist/anarchist/punk band out there owes a LITTLE SOMETHING to these Vancouver legends.

Very excited for this show.  Crystal Dorval is just the greatest human being and amazing artist and musician, and I'm so grateful to have her show her work for this show AND performing as White Poppy.  She is also curating a mixtape for BIG FUN Tapes which will be available at the opening.

Also, BIG FUN TAPES will be releasing Doobi Andre's debut cassette as a part of the Horses Records x BIG FUN TAPES series.

Horses Records & Myself present: "You Can Do Better Than Me" an exhibit by Jarrett Evan Samson featuring work from 1984-present day You Can Do Better Than Me is an acknowledgment of adequacy and a rejection of the disconnect and ego that exists in the artist and patron relationship. You Can Do Better Than Me was envisioned in 2010, touring Europe with Collapsing Opposites in and acting as a representative for Laura Hatfield's Whose Museum. All over the many galleries we visited were pieces that seemed to beg for contact from the viewer, yet were sequestered behind ropes and guards, left unreachable and denied the real substance that interaction would have allowed. I became obsessed with this aspect of exhibiting art, the placing of artist over audience and the ego it seemed to imply. The show is a response to that directly-- from its title, which is taken from a Chris-a-riffic lyric, every piece in the exhibit can be addressed by the viewer, challenged, interacted with, improved upon, erased or completely destroyed; moreso than being invited to interact, the viewer is required for the gallery performance to take place. The exhibit's opening will be October 16th, with musical performances by Chris-a-riffic, Smooth FX, Collapsing Oposites and Jarrett Evan Samson. Also, the opening will see the debut of the invisible theatre piece "Opening Night" by Jarrett Evan Samson, performed by two volunteers. Light refreshments.
