"Irkutsk Regional Court puts an end to the case of the maniacs"

Verdict:

On April 2, the Irkutsk Regional Court issued a guilty verdict against the "hammermen" gang: Nikita Lytkin and Artyom Anufriev.

Lytkin was sentenced to 24 years in prison, the first five in a high-security regime. Anufriev received a life sentence. Both were found guilty of multiple murders, showing no remorse, and committing the crimes with particular cruelty. They were also accused of organizing a criminal community and robberies. The victims of this bloody pair included both men and women, among them a boy and a girl. The crimes took place in Irkutsk and Akademgorodok between November 2010 and April 2011. To prove the crimes, investigators of the Investigative Committee gathered a considerable body of evidence.

Mothers’ grief:

During the hearings, relatives of the victims present in the courtroom listened to the details of the murders with tears in their eyes. Mothers, whose daughters had been brutally killed, said they still could not comprehend how such young men, almost boys, could have committed such atrocities. They recalled searching for their missing daughters and only later receiving the terrible news of their deaths.

The “Grandpa Physicist” – Nazi disguised as fanatic:

The defense attorney tried to argue that both Lytkin and Anufriev grew up in dysfunctional families and had shown aggression from an early age. In childhood they were bullied, which fueled their hatred toward others. Later they found refuge in aggressive music, neo-Nazi ideology, and violent internet videos.

In total:

Anufriev and Lytkin killed six people: one child, two women, and three men. They also attempted to murder nine other people, including a pregnant woman and a young girl.

Survivors and headhunters:

In several cases, victims miraculously managed to survive. In one case, a woman escaped seriously injured and was able to identify the attackers. This testimony was key to capturing them. The maniacs sought notoriety, recorded their crimes, and shared them online.

Case file:

The case materials amounted to 49 volumes. The defendants showed coldness and indifference during the trial. The prosecution requested life sentences for both, but the court took into account that Lytkin was a minor at the time of the crimes, which is why he received 24 years in prison.
