Just an idea for later in my feral broz au.

Branch and his brothers, as well as a few others, live separate from the main village. In the village the adults tell scary stories of 'feral' trolls that come into the village deep into the night to steal naughty trollings from their beds.

to have enough family to have a whole festival for a birthday is so much higher then i pictured! (love your writing style btw, the povs changing every chapter is so interesting but it blends so well.)

A lot of my inspiration of Sherwin's family is from my hometown; plenty of family owned businesses and close community. While we don't celebrate individual birthdays with huge parties but we do go pretty big for national holidays (If you're from northern Minnesota you might know where I'm talking about).

"John Dory didn't mean to become a voice of leadership. He just led his brothers away Peppy and the rest, those that followed made their own choices. It was their choice to listen to him. Obviously, Bruce was JD's confidant and right-hand troll, plus it was hard to deny his cooking skills (even though he lacked experience cooking over an open fire). Birds were a big problem for the glitter trolls at the Camp Ground, fortunately Floyd and some others figured out how to hunt the critters and began using their skills to defend their home and neighbors."

Also do you plan to explore the relationship between Jon and his mom more? I find them really interesting considering the kind of tense relationship they seem to have to each other and how that dynamic mixed with the favoritism of Michael seems to affect the way Jon perceives relationships and the world around him.

The story takes place in America (I am an unfortunate resident here) but I haven't quite decided what state this made up town is in. I'm feeling east or west coast but nothing in stone just yet. I'm in a midwestern landlocked part of the country so I'm letting these kids live my dreams (with consequences of course)

I love how this is the first question, lol. I rewatched the original In a Heartbeat short a good number of times and while watching my attention turned towards the background characters (Liane, Sean, and Ozzy) and kinda just dubbed them to your average tropes: "not like other girls," "old money naivety," and "bad boy trytobe." I've also always had a fascination with psychology (obviously) and while developing everyone's problems and their resulting "quirks" I kind of related them to relationships of myself and people I am close to.

Sherwin’s family dynamic is heavily influenced by my maternal family; we're all very close to each other and involved in each other's lives, while there isn't nearly as many people as what Sherwin has, it damn sure feels like it

And likewise Jonathon's dynamic is influenced by my paternal relationships. Distance and polite but where you least expect to find it, there is affection and care

As for Ozzy, those who've read some of my footnotes in one of the actual chapters will know he is a character I've had longer than my plotting in HMH. He's always had at least one absent parent due to various reasons. He's going to deal with a lot soon enough.

And a lot of us likely know someone with Liane's situation. Used as a prop, eats and breathes unwanted standards but doesn't know how to deal with anything otherwise in a healthy or positive way; probably a dirty secret somewhere in the background she doesn't want anyone to know

I like to think Hickory and John Dory met up now and again before the Rockpocalypse between odd jobs.
