hate to break it to you lad, she doesn’t talk about these things anyway. when you have a character so dense with story like shane (a gay, autistic, wasian hockey player) you can’t NOT write about these things right? they make shane who he is, and the way he is. HOWEVER. what we’re all forgetting is that this is a gay hockey romance. rachel wasn’t thinking about things like autism and race when she was writing heated rivalry. that’s why shane’s race never comes up, and why fabian felt like a flat character (try and tell me she didn’t create his character and then dip a paint roller and make him brown). like i can’t remember the context but fabian being lebanese comes up ONCE. and also as a brown androgynous gay man, he never experiences any form of homophobia in tough guy which is just. insane. like actually wow. she’s creating her ideal society for gay hockey players and yknow what. she’s allowed to do that. but i am also allowed to look at it and have thoughts

then again, it’s fair to NOT talk about these things if she so chooses. it is a GAYhockey romance. but you’re not allowed to be mad at people for wanting (or even expecting) a deeper character study of her own character that she did not think further about
