I wouldn't blame Chiyoh if at some point while growing up next to Hannibal she would have started having a crush on him. I also imagine that her being manipulated into making sure that guy doesn't escape had to do with the fact that she loved Hannibal (platonically or not) so much that she really gave her freedom up to scratch his itch. She could have easily let the man go and she could have also left but her love and devotion for Hannibal were so intense that the first thing she did after being freed was searching for Hannibal to keep protecting him

When I think of Chiyoh’s love, I consider it a strong and unconditional type of love. Unconditional doesn’t equate to forgiveness of all past deeds or any actions henceforth. Nor does it mean excusing it. It means having such a profound kind of love that it factors in all such things and loving a person anyways. Even if it it’s a dangerous kind of love.

I feel like Chiyoh could have done anything with her freedom after everything that happened and she did probably do something in the three years that were given to her. Go back to Japan or even France where she grew up even. But it would have felt empty. She gave up her planned life when she chose to be devoted to Hannibal and Mischa. And she chooses still after seeing everything, because to her, it’s the right thing to do.

The Western audience may believe this form of servitude is stripping Chiyoh of any autonomy or individuality, but devoted loyalty and personal sacrifice are virtues that are strongly valued in the East. To serve is to love. It doesn’t make her weak nor submissive. It makes her an immovable force to be reckoned with.
