my favorite moment watching granada holmes for the first time was in "the empty house" when holmes says moriarty let him write "the note you afterwards received" and hardwicke with his messy hair and loosened tie does that little conspiratorial face, and i was like "ohhhoooo watson framed the note!"
AND THEN THE CAMERA FOLLOWS WATSON TO THE MANTLEPIECE WHERE HE HAD INDEED FRAMED THE FUCKING NOTE.

the sad thing about orikan is that, by the very nature of chronomancy, he actually is capable of controlling everything perfectly to some extent. it probably would have been better if he were incapable, then he'd have to accept the fact that you can't control everything. but he is capable. he is very capable. he is arguably the best astromancer the necrons have. he can infinite monkey theory his way through problems by turning back time again and again until he gets it right when most crypteks would have been able to do it only 2-3 times at best. he has millenia of experience enforcing the idea that he is capable. it probably gives him efficacy, keeps him sane. but it also means that he'll never let go of the punishing expectations he forces on himself. he's in a time loop of his own volition. he made his own hell.
