Jaymie's Story: Words cannot express how impressed and touched I am by the response my students have given the "Home Is This" project. As I explained the mission, the information about the children we were doing this for, and just the sheer magnitude of how lucky they were…I could see many of their faces grow solemn and many on the verge of tears. The result ended up being me having to choke back my own tears.

The kids I work with are not the smartest, the richest, or even very fortunate. Many of these kids have had the experience of losing a parent, falling into foster care, or many, many other extenuating circumstances, and for them to respond as they did warms my heart. Despite what they may have been through, you know that they are appreciative of where they are now.

I am very excited to see what the turn out is for these students. Some of the ones that I have had the privilege of previewing are so touching. My favorite being a drawing of my student and her grandmother under a rainbow. When I asked her what her picture was about, she said to me, “I think home means being with my Grandma. She died when I was little, but I know she watches over me."
