I’m designing a new villain mask for my next series of films.

In my first film, I used an off-the-shelf mask, and I still love how it looked on camera. But the next set of films has a much stronger graphic design aesthetic, so I decided to create an original helmet from scratch.

I started by borrowing a few elements from the original mask, particularly the horns and some of the facial lines. After dozens of sketches, I realized the design became stronger the simpler it became.

I stripped everything down to three basic shapes: an upside-down U for the helmet, a U for the horns, and a sharp M for the face. Those simple forms felt more graphic, more sinister, and they fit the new story much better.

Now the design is starting to feel less like a generic devil mask and more like its own character.

Next step is cleaning up the orthographic drawings in Adobe Illustrator, building a paper mock-up, and then moving into EVA foam construction.

I went costume shopping on Hollywood Blvd, looking for some cool stuff for the next episode of Helluva Hand. This wig shop had so many cool wigs. One of my favorites. Will post more later.
