@windsorbaystarters location: crystal ice palace
Tristan arrived after the crowd had gone. The rink stood almost empty, a pale blue light covered the smooth ice. He tied his skates at a normal pace, his jaw tight, as if he expected trouble that had not yet appeared. He stepped onto the ice and glided forward, cutting clean curves until his breathing steadied with the motion. After multiple circuits he saw someone beside the boards. He reduced his speed, drifted toward them and halted a short distance away, placing one glove on the rail. "Didn't think anyone else would be here this late," he spoke, keeping his tone quiet and level. "You skating or just hiding out?"
Holiday leaned against one of the support beams, her eyes glued to the man as he skated around on the ice. A small smile tugged up against her lips, he seemed so in his element and it tugged at something inside of her chest. Pushing herself a bit straighter as he approached, her eyes flickered over his features before shrugging her shoulders. "Thought I might find you here." She admitted, a brow arching up a tad. "Haven't seen you around much." she straightened completely, her head tipping to one side as if she were examining him. "Avoiding me?" the words hit somewhere between teasing banter and serious concern, like she was attempting to conceal the actual worry he had been avoiding her.
open starter @windsorbaystarters location: shade culture, coral coast
Walking in, the smell of paint hit her first. Shade Culture had been on her list of things to try for so long yet Amara had always imagined she'll come with some company to make the whole experience less daunting. The thought of bringing her mother had crossed her mind but the woman had called last minute to let her know she had a change of heart. She offered a small smile at the woman, who greeted her upon arrival and requested a glass of soda before heading towards the long table with set canvas. "Is this your first time, too?" She chuckled, taking a seat next another early comer. Noticing most of the seats were still empty, she hoped to at least break the ice and have a decent first experience.
Holiday stared at the blank canvas, her eyes fixated on it as though she were trying to burn the picture she was imagining onto it with her mind instead of paint. She quickly turned to the woman beside her "Oh, yeah" she replied with a soft smile. "Never been much of an artist but i figure if someone can pass off a single white line on a blue canvas as a masterpiece my stuff can't be too bad" she laughed, brushing a few strands behind her ear. "Are you big into art?" she asked.
poshed and sloshed, coral coast. @holiday-diaz !
"you're just in time for a little chaos," he teased quietly, eyes shifting from the woman who'd just moved into the empty spot at the bar, to a scene that was unfolding just a few feet away. all he'd heard so far was something about an ex being off limits and how it wasn't cool that the other hadn't respected that rule. oh, and how the other dared to argue against it. "should we step in or let them hash it out?"
Holiday slipped into the seat, her eyes shifting towards the man as he spoke directly to her. She looked over watching the couple arguing just a few feet away and her lips slowly turned up at the corners, shaking her head in response to his question. "Not my circus not my monkeys. But I am a lover of free admission to watch a show" she looked at him, her smile pulling wider. "So, what exactly are they not so secretly arguing about?" she asked, pulling her glass to her lips.
JJ slipped into his seat across from her, laughing softly at her teasing. "Very funny... But I'll have you know that I'm usually quite good with beer. I can handle it, especially on a full stomach. It's the hard liquor that I have to worry about. I'm just not as young as I used to be, okay?" He shrugged, picking up the seasonal menu on the table and sliding it towards her.
"So, we have the winter white ale. I think it has notes of orange, cinnamon and nutmeg in it, I think. It's one of their most popular holiday flavours, which they're now giving away for cheap." He shrugged, laughing softly as he pointed to the next glass. "The winter lager's my favourite during this time of year. It's darker, but quite smooth. I love this one." Pointing to the next one, he made a face of slight disgust. "Now, this one... I don't know if you'll like it, because I don't think I will. Apparently, it's got a deep malt flavour with notes of caramel and toffee." He paused for a moment before continuing. "The next one is even worse. It's coffee-flavoured. Apparently, they were inspired by the espresso martini." It was safe to say that JJ had some hope for that one. "I think the next one is either the sugar plum or the chocolate and raspberry one. As I said, they're giving away their holiday flavours for cheap." He watched as she picked up the first one and brought it up to her lips. "If you don't like the flavoured ones, we can just stick to the winter ales."
Holiday listened as he explained all the different flavors, each one piquing an interest. "Hm" she looked down at the shot in her hand "They all sound interesting, I'm a little surprised to hear you turn your nose up at the caramel one." she laughed a little. "Caramel and toffee sound delicious." She looked up at him "So I'm hoping for the sake of my pallet, it translates well with alcohol." she took a small sip from the Winter White Ale and licked over her lips as she judged the taste.
"Wow." She said, taking another sip. "This is very good" She gave a nod, scootching the other glass with the same drink towards him. "Try." She encouraged, throwing the rest of it back. "How were the holidays?" she asked after a moment. "Anything super interesting happen?" she probed unashamed.

"That's the least helpful answer ever," he teased, wracking his brain hoping to shake loose a good option. "Um...well, if we don't want to travel too far, we can go to the food stop and hope that there are good options today? They've always got a pretty broad variety." Freddie didn't frequent the food trucks but they had a novelty that he was always keen to experience with a friend. Plus, it was easy to accommodate most cravings if you got lucky and the selection was good.
She smiled slowly as he spoke, "Cop out answer" she nudged him playfully. "But That works for me" she gave him a soft nod. Holiday wasn't picky about food, especially when she was hungry so whatever he would have picked- she would be happy with. "How long until feeding time?" she asked curiously, glancing over towards the tanks.
The thing in the center of Alexios's chest stuttered at her admission that she was there alone. He hadn't just been asking for the sake of being polite. He didn't feel good about this—Holiday, by herself, on something he couldn't identify, without a designated driver or anyone to look after her amid a busy, hungry crowd.
"Italian food. With a friend I made at the bookstore a few weeks ago," he said, his brow half-cocking at the sound of her stomach. He was grateful for the sound, though, as it was the perfect entry point for him to offer help. "I have leftovers, if you're interested. Aglio e olio. Or," he went on, nodding up the road, "if you want your own food, we could get you a bite to eat from that 24-hour place up the way."
She inhaled a deep breath, almost a gasp as he offered her his food. She happily took the carryout box from his hand and walked a little too quickly to the edge of the sidewalk where she plopped down on the curb opening the box and hummed as the aroma hit her nose, causing her mouth to water.
She looked at him, taking the plastic fork and twirled noodles around it, shoving in a mouthful. The girl chewed slowly, savoring the taste- "Bookstore friend?" she asked between bites, looking over at the man curiously.
WHO: JJ Hayes & @holiday-diaz
WHERE: Pint House Beer Garden & Brewery , Coral Coast.
WHEN: January, 2026.
Ever since their first meeting at Mic Drop during Thanksgiving weekend, JJ had been texting Holiday on and off during the holiday season. It had not been much. Just a few holiday wishes here and there, as well as an occasional message about the current book he was reading. It was not that rare for him to befriend someone new to town, especially when that someone seemed to bring out a side of him that he had not seen in almost two decades. Holiday was incredibly mature and offered interesting conversation while also encouraging him to come out of his comfort zone and live a little. Considering the recent events, he clearly needed that.
So, there he was, carrying a flight of seasonal beers for the two of them to try as he approached their booth at the Pint House Beer Garden & Brewery. "There we are." He placed the flight in front of her. "I got us a shot each of their top six flavours to try. Whichever one you like, we can start ordering that one by the pint." Chuckling softly, he slid into the seat across from her. "Ladies first."
Scooting into the booth, Holiday looked over at JJ as he appeared with a tray of shots. Her brows lifting as an amused smile slowly spread over her face. "Wow" she said leaning back against the booth, eyeing the array of drinks in front of her. "You sure you can keep up?" she asked with a mischievously playful glint in her eye. "Although, Suppose beer is easier to handle" she said in a slightly lowered tone as if it were just meant for her.
She examined each glass slowly, "What do we have?" she asked, glancing up at the man curiously. "I didn't actually look at the flavors while you were off ordering for us" she chuckled, picking up a random one and slowly bringing it to her lips.
Adrian's chest tightened the moment her tone shifted. He'd seen this before, the way chaos could feel fun right up until it tipped into something sharp and unmanageable. "Hey," he said again, calm but firmer now, stepping a little closer. He hated how small she suddenly looked against the brick, how uncoordinated her laugh had been. It pulled at something protective in him. "Easy, you're alright."
When she stumbled back, his hand lifted on instinct, hovering near her elbow in case she lost balance. "Chaos sounds fun until it isn't," Adrian said gently, crouching a bit so he was closer to her eye level, less imposing. "And I'm guessing tonight already crossed that line for you." His gaze flicked to the ground when she started scanning for the cigarette, then back to her face. He could see the frustration bubbling, the way her focus kept snagging on one thing at a time. He exhaled slowly. "Okay, we can look," he agreed, because arguing right now would only escalate things. "But we're gonna do it without you tipping over, yeah?" A small, reassuring half smile. "Team effort."
As he glanced around the sidewalk, he felt that familiar mix of resolve and sadness settle in his gut. This is exactly why I said no, he thought. And exactly why I'm staying. He didn't regret it, not for a second. "We'll find the cigarette, or we won't. Either way, we're not ending the night with you getting hurt." He straightened just enough to meet her eyes again, voice low and steady, something she could latch onto. "One thing at a time, Holiday. Start with standing still with me for ten seconds. We've got nowhere to rush to."
"I know I'm alright"she insisted, waving a hand that felt disconnected from her body. Her eyes searched the dark in a jagged, ill-fated hunt for something that wasn’t there. She looked up at him as he leaned closer and for just a split second she thought he was leaning down to kiss her, she lifted her chin a tick before he pulled away and the girls brows furrowed, half confused before turning her attention back to focusing on the lost cigarette.
"I'm not going to get hurt Ian" she mumbled, the name of her ex-fiance slipping clumsily past her lips. She tried to catch it, "Adrian" she corrected herself. She exhaled a sharp, frustrated sigh and tried to pull herself into what she thought was a commanding posture. In reality, she was still slumped heavily against the brick. "See" the word rushed out, biting. Her eyes hooded further. "Just find the thing"
"They never really work out for me," he shrugged. Freddie had been considering setting easy, simple, resolution to start his year off right but he hadn't gotten around to it. It didn't seem like it was going to happen either, if it hadn't happened by now.
"You know what? I think I can manage that." He agreed, readily, pleasantly surprised by her request. He and Holiday had never really spent time together outside of Aquatic Grove, but he was all for the idea. "Yeah, yeah, I'm very lucky. Without your unmatched skills, I'd be doomed to experience the disappointment of another quiet crowd. There's only so many of those a man can take before he starts questioning his ability," he teased back, taking a moment to glance down at his watch, ensuring he still had some time before the show.
"So, where do you usually go for dinner?"
Holiday grinned wide as if she were taking his exaggerated compliment to heart, giving a nonchalant shrug "its what I do" she winked. "Uhmmm anywhere really." She replied with a shrug. "I mean we could go somewhere around here or if you dont mind traveling a little we could go somewhere downtown or mountainside, hell even out in the farmlands." she laughed.
"Suppose it depends on how far you wanna go and what you're in the mood for. I'm not super picky."

Adrian felt it then, that slowdown, how her focus kept slipping and catching, like the words just weren't quite hitting the mark. "No," he said softly, right away. "No, hey." He kept his voice even and steady, a complete contrast to the confusion she felt closing in on her. "I'm not going anywhere." He met her eyes, holding them there. "I'm right here."
When she told him to get less sober, a sad little smile briefly appeared on his face. "Yeah," he said gently, "that's kind of the thing, I'm not looking to be where you are at the moment." He scooted in a tiny bit, still giving her space, but still making sure they were connected. "I think tonight's kinda asking for something a bit quieter than dancing," Adrian said. "I think you might need someone who can keep both feet on the ground."
Her very last question squeezed at his chest. "No," he said again, a little stronger. "I never said I was going anywhere, yet." He gave her hand a gentle squeeze. "I said we weren't going to do anything we'd regret later, big difference." He looked out towards the street, where the air was cooler and the lights weren't so loud. "Let’s get you somewhere calmer," he suggested. "Coffee, water, then a walk." We don't need to make any more decisions tonight." His look got softer. It was like he wanted to watch out for her, but not in a possessive way. "I'm here with you, Holiday. I'm staying put."
Holiday looked up at Adrian, and although his words were a jumble she couldn't quite piece together, she felt a sudden, sharp spike of annoyance. It was a dull throb behind her eyes, an itch she couldn't scratch, and she decided right then that it was entirely his fault.
"Yet," she bit out, the word vibrating against her teeth. "But you are disa—ing..." She trailed off, her tongue feeling twice its usual size as the words muddled together. She shook her head, a chorus of "Nah, nah, nah, nah" falling out of her mouth as she stumbled back. Her shoulder clipped the wall, but instead of wincing, she let out a dizzy, breathless giggle.
"I think tonight is for chaos, Adrian Sinclair!" She looked down at her hand, blinking at her empty, curled fingers. The cigarette had vanished. "Shit," she hissed, her focus narrowing down to the sidewalk with a desperate, drug-fueled intensity. "Where is it? Help me find it."
Something changed when Holiday moved nearer. It wasn't only distance shrinking - it was how the dark seemed to lean in too. Her fingers found his coat, quick, without pause. He didn't pull back, yet offered nothing forward. "Hey," he said, no edge, just calm. His gaze dropped to her hands before lifting to meet her eyes, noticing how gentle they looked, how relaxed her body seemed. He realized she wasn't fully here, and that made a difference.
He lifted his hand and settled it over hers as her fingers held tight to his jacket. "I like dancing with you," Adrian admitted, honest as ever. "And under different circumstances, I'd probably already be halfway back inside." A breath hung in the air. Then he let it out, steady and low. "But tonight? I don't think I'm the guy who should say yes to that."
He tilted his head toward the street instead of the door, offering an alternative without making it a rejection. "If you want quiet, I'm good for that. Coffee somewhere still open, a walk, sitting and talking like this without the bass rattling your head." His gaze softened. "Something that doesn't feel like tomorrow you might regret it." He met her eyes again, calm, present. "I'm not disappearing, I just want this to land right, for both of us. Besides, if we go back in there, one of us is definitely stepping on the other's foot. I'm too sober to recover gracefully."
Holiday watched him, the way his lips moved but his words were taking a longer time to process. The feeling of his hand on hers was grounding, keeping her there with him but the lazy half hearted smile was snitching on her. The oxy was building towards its peak. When he offered taking her to get coffee or to go on a walk the hint of a pout started to take form in her eyes before they closed, Longer than a blink.
"Well maybe" she said, almost completely ignoring his suggestion- the idea disappearing into the fog of her mind. "mayyybe you just need to get not so sober." she inhaled a long shallow breath. Her eyes stared up into his under heavy lids before her brows pushed together with another 'too long to be a normal blink' blink. She followed with a few quick blinks, seeming to bring her back to reality for a moment, "Did you say you're disappearing?"
"Yeah, I did. I had a really nice time. It was good to see everyone all amped up and letting loose." It had been a night to remember, one for the scrap books, but he was socially aware enough not to gush too much about a party that Holiday had missed. "Did you make any New Years Resolutions?
"Those fish are the real A-Listers around here. I could stare at them forever, they're just...so cool." Cool didn't even begin to cut it. Freddie ducked his head, his smile softening at her response. "We've been working on some new educational material too. So I get to do what I do best and talk everyone's ears off while our buddies in the tank get fed. You're gonna love it. Oh - and please ask questions? Give me a challenge, I need someone to break the ice. The past couple days everyone's been so quiet. Even the kids." While he could play off awkward silences with the best of them, it did but a pit of a damper on his excitement when it felt like the crowd wasn't engaged.
He met Holiday's gaze, standing up straight once more. "Plus, I always like to hear what you're curious about."
Holiday genuinely was happy to hear he had had a good time at the Lucerna New Years event, but she was happy that he didn't linger too long on the subject. A scoffed laugh bubbled from her chest and she shook her head at his question "Nah." she shrugged softly "I never stick to them so Imma get a head start by not making any." A humored grin spread over her mouth. "You?"
The girls smile melted into something more admiring, listening to the way Freddie beamed about the fish. It was endearing, and she found the way he was so in his element to be comforting. A soft laugh at his request to ask him questions in case of the crowd being stale and she nodded "You sir, have got yourself a deal." she replied "On one condition" she added eyeing him for a moment "We go get dinner after your shift. I'm starving."
"You are very lucky I'm good at asking questions" she teased, elbowing his arm gently. "I will save the day."
His eyes met hers before sliding away. Forget her? Impossible. Yet words weren't always required. He let out a low huff of a laugh at her tease. "Yeah, well," he said lightly, tapping ash off his cigarette. "Hard to forget someone who knows how to make an exit and leave an impression at the same time."
That flat note in her voice - he recognized it right away. A small nod came, nothing more. She wasn't keeping secrets, but she wasn't handing out details either. He gave it space. Adrian spoke without rushing. "Fine by me," he said. "Sometimes 'good' is all there is to say."
At the mention of the Lucerna party, his mouth curved into something knowing. "It was… exactly what you're imagining," he admitted. "Big night. Full house, fireworks, champagne, the whole fresh start illusion." He glanced back toward the door, then returned his attention to her. "You would've enjoyed it, or at least enjoyed leaving halfway through." His gaze softened, curious but not pressing. "You sticking around out here long," Adrian asked, "or just borrowing the quiet before diving back in?"
She blinked slow and smiled even slower as he spoke, she was a little jealous she'd missed the party- but the pay at Simple Pleasures was too good to pass up on the day. "Oh I love the illusions of a fresh start." she laughed "People thinking they're really going to change but we know" she pointed between the two of them as if it were an inside secret. "We know the likelihood that nothings going to change." she inhaled a deep breath, exhaling a cloud of fog.
When he asked her plans, she pushed herself off the wall and slowly closed the remaining distance between them. Her hands gently gripping at the edges of Adrian's jacket as she tipped her head to look up at him, any and all inhibition completely gone. "I dunno" she said tugging against the fabric to pull him closer. "We could go in and you could dance with me." she tipped her head the opposite way as if a visual representation of the other option. "Or we can go hang out somewhere else." She gave him the options like there was no others, not even considering that he may not want to hang around her.
Alexios clocked the lie in an instant, of course. Same as he clocked the haze in her eyes, the pliancy in her limbs. He'd seen friends use before, enough to know sedation was irrevocably intertwined with falsehood. Silently, he wondered what else she had been up to before accepting the cigarette from him.
"No, definitely not. I was just out to dinner a few blocks over. You know I prefer to leave clubbing to you," he said, a small smile taking form on his face. He tilted the lighter toward the bogey hanging out of his own mouth, inhaling as she exhaled. The smoke drifted free of his lips in a rolling cloud, bridging what was left of the space between them. "Are you here with friends, or did you come alone?"
A mellow grin spread over her features as he confirmed her assumptions. "Ahh. Dinner" she repeated before shaking her head at his question. "I'm solo tonight" she admitted, it wasn't something she minded- Holiday made friends easily enough to never really feel alone in a space.
"What'd you have for dinner?" she asked, her own stomach telling on her with a lurch and gurgle. She inhaled another puff and rubbed her palm over the tip her nose, scratching the itch. "Alone or with a friend?" she threw the question back towards him with a teasing smirk.

That tiny pause told him more than words ever could. For just an instant, her attention drifted, then returned, sharp and careful. The flicker in his ribs stayed buried under stillness. She passed the lighter over. Skin met skin, once, by accident almost. He dropped it into his coat like nothing happened. "Hard not to notice you," he said, tone easy, but honest. "You have a way of cutting through a room, even when you're trying not to."
He took another drag, exhaled slowly, watching the smoke disappear into the cold night air. "Yeah," he added, nodding toward the door behind them. "It's a lot in there tonight, feels like the walls are inching closer every song. I needed the air before I started regretting all my life choices."
Back against the wall, he shifted into the same stance as Holiday, close but not too near. A pause settled as his eyes traced her features, slow and deliberate. "I'm fine," Adrian replied, his voice calm. "Just taking a breath. How about you?"
Her eyes scanned over his features, lingering for just a moment too long with uninterrupted eye contact. His words caused a smile to form against her mouth, "And here I thought you'd forgotten all about lil ol me" she half teased. She hadn't heard or seen him since the charity event at the Lucerna, which was fine, it wasn't like he owed her anything after a random hook up.
She took a long pull from her cigarette, the end lighting brighter for just a split second, nodding slowly at his comment. "It is a lot in there right now" she agreed. Ashing the cigarette she shrugged at his question. "Been good." she replied simply, there was nothing to report on, nothing worth mentioning anyways. "I heard you had a big party over at Lucerna. Too bad I missed it" she tipped her head gently, letting the brunette curls fall over her shoulder. "I know the kind of parties you throw" she grinned, a mischievousness played behind the expression.
Alexios was walking down the street, headed back to his car after dinner with a friend. They had talked extensively over dessert and coffee, and it was later than he'd realized. The night had long settled over Windsor Bay, the dark fallen like a thick blanket, covering all the buildings nearby.
He hadn't been to any clubs in town, and he had no intention of starting to go now. Too many people, too much noise, too many opportunities for overstimulation and paranoia. Alexios passed Super Nova, planning to bypass the music throbbing against its walls. As always, though, he took note of the people he passed—including Holiday, searching for a cigarette.
He slowed, coming to a stop a few feet away from her. Alexios unzipped his leather jacket and reached into one of the inside pockets. He emerged victorious a few moments later, Marlboro Reds and lighter in hand. He had kicked a lot of vices over the years, but not this one. He'd grown up around smokers, came from a country full of them—his last name may as well have been Karelia. He wasn't above smoking the occasional cigarette to calm his nerves.
He popped one in his mouth, then held the pack and lighter out to her, too. "Here," he said, and then, "Haven't seen you in a bit. How have you been, Holiday?"
Holiday was happy when Alexios offered one of his cigarettes and the smile on her face showed it. "My savior" She propped it lazily between her lips and pointed a finger at the end, silently requesting a light.
She inhaled as it sparked and exhaled a smooth stream from between her lips. "Thank you" she said finally, she leaned against the wall, letting it hold all of her weight and blinked a few times before answering his question. "I've been wonderful, as always." It was a lie, but whether or not just didn't want to admit it or she was so engulfed in the feeling she had now- it didn't matter. "How about yourself?" she asked taking another drag from her cigarette. "Were you inside?" she asked pointing over her shoulder, her brows knit together just slightly as she knew he wasn't much of a club goer.
