imagine it’s January 1st, 3000. tumblr somehow lives through several dozen companies like the cockroach it is. the code is barely recognizable. the entire website, now a repository of nearly a thousand years of posts, is petabytes in servers that, due to techological advances, are still barely larger than they are today. English isn’t even recognizable and you see this, a post in language a millennium out of date referencing a show that’s been dead almost as long.

this is really interesting in how it frames disability/low spoons/etc as not being a series of internal symptoms, but specifically a situation in which daily tasks increase in complexity. for example i used to be able to wash the dishes normally. but now mental and physical issues combine to make that situation have a lot of prequalifications (do I have time, energy, how long can I do it without being sore the next day) that means many more steps are involved in getting that single physical act of washing a dish to be done.

he’s got a point though. it is kinda weird that this show that tried so hard to be about macho men fighting demons was so afraid of accidentally having a woman as a major character that they eventually just phased them out entirely.

General tumblr reminder, since some people don't know: If the person's URL has "deactivated" plus a string of numbers (a date) after it, that means that they manually deleted their own blog. It doesn't mean they were banned. Banned blogs don't have "deactivated" after them and will just be the normal URL you can't click on or interact with. my problem really deeply is how shallow a tolerance younger people have for old queer media. like yes, it's dated and some of the politics don't hold water anymore, but to ignore older media simply based on that is to loose EVERYTHING we have bc we don't have a lot. just because queer themes caught up more recently doesn't mean we should rehash everything to fit into a more "presentable" format that is only considered modern bc of the puritanical blacklash of the last several years and sanitization of queer themes.

The show/book/podcast right now that you think is groundbreaking, has great representation and ideal political positions, that makes you feel seen and validated like nothing ever has before? In twenty or thirty years, if you are so lucky, you'll get to look back and watch kids who weren't born yet make fun of it or criticize it for its flaws, for how it didn't use the current correct terminology or was wrong about something that is now taken for granted, or ignored things that are now considered essential to the queer experience. Maybe you'll even notice those flaws yourself when you revisit it. Then you have a choice: throw away the whole thing, or say "hey kids, this thing might seem dated or misguided to you now but at the time it was great, and it's still really important to me."
