“Nah, I was just fucking with you. This place is great.” She cracked a tiny grin, arms folding across her chest as she leaned into the wall. “Sounds to me like you were prepared for just about anything, though. You moved in alone?”

“Funny,” Jamie said. “Yeah, I moved in alone. I don’t like anyone enough to live with them. Well, I mean my sister could probably crash with me if she wanted now that I have a place but she’s probably got better things to do.”

“Yeah, I don’t think you’re gonna have that problem here, kid. I mean— someone got murdered here once, but that was also because he brought some crazy up to his apartment.” She paused, then scrunched her nose, thinking over her next question. “How old are you, anyway?”

“Yikes. Someone got murdered here? Not exactly a selling feature.” It actually didn’t matter to Jamie. Sometimes he fantasized about being murdered because it would be easier. “I”m twenty, I just look younger.”

“I think history class taught me all I need to know about those times, too dark for my interest.” Peeta shuddered at the thought, he wasn’t a fan of murder or torture… so he wouldn’t have been all that useful back then other than a bakers boy.

“You know, in the seventies I was a histroy professor. One of my favorite jobs I’ve had. But it’s a nuisance getting academic jobs when you’re dead. It’s not worth the effort of forging the papers and worrying they’re going to catch on.”

“Okay, well, again, as long as it’s not any of those…” She chuckled, arms folding across her chest. “Then I’m happy to help. None of our neighbors ever talk to each other– I mean, I’m guilty of it, too. So, I guess it’s the least I can do.”

“Okay, thanks, I guess. I don’t know. It’s okay. My last apartment no one talked to each other either. All kinds of illegal things were happening there, though. Not the greatest place to live. I have higher hopes for here.”

“No- no, I’ll make you something, I don’t mind.” Peeta assures, he reaches out, although hesitant his hand soon finds its way to the others shoulder even if he has to lean up a little. “It’ll be just like old times.”

“Okay, if you don’t mind, I guess it’s okay.” Gale didn’t really like it when people did things for him, especially if they were out of charity or if the other person didn’t expect anything in return. “Yeah, like old times.” Gale looked away, hoping Peeta wouldn’t see that he was almost in tears.

“Well…” She sputtered a laugh, arms folded across her chest. “Unless it’s illegal, or like, you need a kidney or something.” Her red lips tugged into a tiny smirk. “I won’t be able to help you much there. Oh– I also usually don’t give the best relationship advice. But anything else…” Charlie shrugged. “I’m sure I could help somehow.”

“Oh, I don’t need anything illegal. I mean, I don’t need a kidney.” It’s not like he was going to go asking her for drugs or anything. “I don’t really do relationships anyway, so I don’t need help in that area.”
