Jaguar E-Type Series III 4.2 2+2, 1970. The extensively re-engineered 3rd series introduced Jaguar’s 5.3 litre V12 into the E-type but six XK6-cylinder Series III E-types were made in pre-production. A single left-hand-drive 2+2 FHC was built, originally for Jaguar Cars Experimental Department. It soon became apparent that the V12 would take the bulk of E-type sales and though the first Series III sales literature included the alternative of the 4.2 litre XK6 the option was quickly deleted. The one-off 6-cylinder LHD FHC finished in Pearl Grey, referred to by Jaguar enthusiasts as “The Ghost”, sold at auction 2019 for £82,800.
