“I’m excited for tomorrow.” You hummed before sipping on your root beer float. The mix of foam and taste of pop mixing with creamy vanilla ice cream tingling in your mouth.

“Me too.” Lara replied, words soft. Her attention focused on what you’re saying just enough to actually respond, and the rest on getting the tinsel just perfect.

“Megan went to the parade last year,” Lara started. “it’s pretty lowkey and they have quite a bit of food to try. They also sponsor different artists by letting them set up booths.” She added as she pulled a strand of glittery yellow tinsel from the pack.

You made a sound of acknowledgement as you swallowed and set your cup down. “Isn’t there a drag bar too?” You asked.

You shifted. “They also have a fashion show. I’ve been looking forward to it for so long.”

Lara chuckled. Smoothing your hair down gently. “Yeah, at one.” She answered. “I booked it earlier just in case they’re full tomorrow. I know how much you wanted to go.”

You smiled against her, warmth spreading in your chest. You didn’t have to say anything in response- thats what you liked about her. She didn’t expect replies.

A couple more minutes went by, and you could feel yourself getting closer to sleep. The feeling of her nails gently brushing your scalp mixed with the soft hair playing felt like real life asmr.

She finally finished. A sigh escaped her lips and she ran her nails through your freshly, rainbow-tinsel-decorated hair. Smoothing it out and making sure it looked perfect.

She leaned downed and place a soft kiss to the top of your head. “All done.” She whispered, and you just hummed. Already falling deeper into sleep.

A body bumped into yours and you shifted. Glancing over the sea of people.

The chatter was loud and heat warm from bodies pushing against bodies.

Your arm was flush against your girlfriends. The two of you close together to try and avoid getting in the way of others.

“What’s that?” Megan asked, voice polite. She pointed towards a picture of one of the floats, named ‘Sour Bluezness’.

The lady- young, probably about twenty, braided hair and golden brown skin shining from the sun, smiled and looked towards where Megan was yelling.

“Ah! that’s a float with Mountain dew- Raspberry Voltage flavour. It has a slightly sour tinge to it.”

Megan hummed, brows lifting slightly in thought and curiosity. “Do you want to try it?” Megan asked, turning to face you.

“What are we doing, taste testing every drink we see?” You teased, mischievous smirk on your lips. Though your eyes exposed you- roaming over the many drink options.

She chuckled sheepishly, nudging you softly. “C’mon just pick.”

You looked back at the purple ‘n white float on the menu- ‘Grape fizz’.

“What’s the grape fizz?” You asked. Your tone polite, smiling shyly towards the women.

“Grape crush! It’s good if you like sweet drinks.” She replied. “Are those what you two will be getting?” She asked, hand already reaching for the cups.

“Yes please.” You two said in unison.

It didn’t take long for her to finish your drinks. Maybe about five minutes.

“Thank you,” Megan says as she grabs both of yous cups. She shifted so that she wasn’t in the way, smiling politely to the people behind you guys.

You two settled for sitting down on the curb, squeezed in between two tents, drinks in hand.

You brought your knees toward your chest, using them as a table for your drink. You used one finger to bend the straw closer to your mouth.

Then, you took a sip.

The flavour hit you at once- it was sweet. very sweet. The pop and ice cream mixed well, and the vanilla taste was strong with a good mix of the grape.

You took a bit of the fizz from the top onto your finger and licked it clean- it tasted the same but with more of a grape tinge to it.

Megan followed suit, taking a sip.

You watched her while licking your lip clean. “Is it good?” You asked, chuckling at her pleasantly surprised face.

Megan swallowed, nodding before she spoke. “It’s better than i expected.” she admitted. Licking some of the foam from top. “It’s has a small sour aftertaste which i really like. It’s unusual for floats.” She explained, taking another small sip before glancing at you.

“Do you want a sip? We both take a sip of each others.” She offered with a grin, already holding her cup towards you.

You chuckled and just moved your cup towards her.

Her grin widened and she leaned forward, just like you did. The both of you tasting each others drink for the fifteenth time that day.

“I am so hungry,” Daniela’s voice cut through the casual hum of park busyness. A PB&J sandwich stuffed into her mouth as she took a bite. A bit of the cool jam spilling out from the bread and onto the corner of her mouth.

The air was warm. Wind blew lightly, just enough to lightly ruffle the leaves of the trees.

Manon chuckled at Dani’s words, glancing up from her plate organization towards her. “You have jam on your mouth.” She teased, smirk on her face.

“Hm?” Dani hummed, bringing her hand up to wipe it away- on the wrong side.

Manon just laughed and reached over, wiping the jam off with her thumb, then cleaning her thumb with a paper towel.

You smiled to yourself as you heard their banter. You sat on your legs and your hands were busy organizing a platter of food.

A small, clear plastic container was in the middle of the tray, filled with Chocolate dip. You were organizing strawberries in a ring around the kiwi you already cut and put onto the tray.

You had an array of grapes, watermelon, banana, kiwi and strawberry. You arranged them in a circle surrounding the chocolate dip. Starting with bananas and ending with strawberries.

“That looks so good.” Dani commented. Shuffling closer to the food tray, the three of you sat around the tray in a ‘Y’ shape.

Dani gasped then- a look of a sudden idea crossing her mind. “We should’ve gotten caramel dip too.” She said, tone defeated as she spoke. “We always forget.”

You chuckled. Shifting in your spot to stretch your legs a bit. Settling for criss cross applesauce instead. “No actually, i got some in the basket.” You hummed, grin widening at the way her face lit up. “I just wanted to see if you noticed me buying it. You were right next to me when i grabbed it.” You teased.

“Oh.” Daniela said simply. blinking at your words. “didn’t even notice.” Daniela chuckled sheepishly, leaning forward and searching for the caramel dip in the basket. “But thank you, y/n. i’ve been craving it.”

“Finished with the cheese and crackers.” Manon hummed as she pushed a slightly smaller tray over towards the fruit tray. Decorated with rows of orange, white and marble cheese than a range of crackers. Her acrylic, glittery rainbow nails a contrast against the cool grey of the tray.

Daniela smiled softly as she glanced at the tray- though she was already pulling open the caramel dip. Perfect medium size for her. A pile of strawberries in her lap.

Manon was already stuffing her face with crackers and cheese, having taken some for herself before you guys could get to it. Grabbing some of the grapes and putting them onto her plate.

“You’re so cute.” She laughed, looking at how you set up the fruit tray and how you were being extra particular about how much chocolate dip got onto your bananas and strawberries.

You blushed, grinning shyly as you grabbed another strawberry. “Shut up.”
