Bailey  was  born  in  Wellington,  New  Zealand  and  moved  to  Sedona,  Arizona  of  the  United  States  when  her  traveling  musician  father  brought  his  girlfriend  and  mother  of  his  child  to  his  hometown.  Her  parents  had  met  on  the  art  scene  and  their  instant  chemistry  made  a  temporary  entanglement  permanent  when  Bailey’s  painter  mother  became  pregnant  with  her.  In  Arizona  Bailey  and  her  mother  were  all  but  ditched  in  Sedona  while  her  father  continued  his  on  the  road  lifestyle  picking  up  with  bands  and  playing  when  and  where  he  could  as  a  professional  musician.  She  and  her  mother  made  the  most  of  it  but  the  vast  difference  of  Sedona  from  where  she  was  from  made  it  difficult  for  Bailey’s  mother.  As  soon  as  Bailey  was  18  and  headed  to  New  York  her  mother  had  made  the  move  back  home  to  New  Zealand.  The  fondest  and  perhaps  some  of  the  only  memories  she  had  of  her  mostly  absent  father  were  of  him  putting  a  guitar  in  her  hands  and  teaching  her  how  to  play  the  strings.  Bailey  also  learned  to  play  the  piano  and  maybe  it  was  no  surprise  how  musically  and  artistically  inclined  she  was.  The  desire  to  be  a  songwriter  sent  her  to  New  York  City  where  she  worked  the  scene,  partied  too  hard  at  times,  and  made  life  much  more  complicated  than  it  needed  to  be.  However,  Bailey  did  find  success,  as  more  than  ten  of  her  songs  are  on  the  records  of  well  known  and  popular  artists  out  today.  A  few  of  them  even  hit  songs.  Returning  to  Sedona,  buying  out  Off  The  Record,  came  on  the  heels  of  layered  heartbreak,  writer’s  block,  and  feeling  as  though  she’d  lost  the  magic.

In  Wellington,  New  Zealand  a  traveling  musician  met  a  painter  during  a  fair  in  the  art  district.  What  had  been  meant  to  be  a  fleeting  connection,  just  a  one  or  two  night  affair,  no  more  than  a  week,  for  a  man  in  a  band  on  the  road  had  lasting  consequences.  A  flame  that  burned  bright  and  perfect  when  contained  in  its  something  to  be  remembered  moment,  had  become  threatened  with  the  suffocation  of  a  lifelong  commitment  when  the  painter  found  him  and  his  band  in  Australia  to  make  him  aware  he  was  to  have  a  child  in  the  world.

It  wasn't  that  he  hadn't  wanted  a  child  or  didn't  like  them,  he'd  just  never  thought  of  it  as  an  aspect  of  his  life.  Creating  and  playing  music  were  all  that  truly  mattered  to  him.  Sure,  he  was  able  to  see  the  world  because  of  hard  work  and  talent.  There  were  amazing  people  he'd  met  through  touring  and  picking  up  with  this  band  or  that.  Settling  down?  Being  a  family  man?  Now  that  was  a  concept  his  head  and  heart  could  never  fully  wrap  itself  around.  Even  if  he  fell  in  love  with  his  child  to  be  the  moment  he'd  learned  he'd  created  a  life.

The  painter,  of  course,  had  been  skeptical  from  the  start.  She  knew  what  the  very  passionate  and  incredibly  short  affair  was,  saw  it  at  face  value,  yet  still  hoped  for  something  different  when  everything  changed  the  moment  she  received  positive  test  results.  He'd  left  a  way  to  contact  him,  the  musician,  and  she'd  traveled  to  Australia  to  tell  him  face  to  face.  What  resulted,  when  the  mini  tour  concluded  a  month  later,  was  him  moving  in  with  her  at  her  home  in  Wellington.  They  welcomed  a  daughter  there,  a  redhead  that  showcased  her  father's  roots  shining  through.

Eventually  the  musician's  call  to  home  had  become  too  much  to  ignore  and  the  small  family  packed  up  in  Wellington  and  landed  around  the  world  in  Arizona.  They  settled  in  his  hometown  of  Sedona  with  the  promise  of  making  more  money  at  local  gigs.  Though,  it  wasn't  long  before  he  was  off  on  the  road  and  she  was  left  to  mostly  raise  a  spirited  daughter  all  on  her  own.  The  ladies  of  the  house  made  the  best  of  it,  Bailey  was  encouraged  at  all  points  to  tap  into  her  curiosities  and  creativity,  but  much  to  the  painter's  disappointment  her  daughter  was  more  musically  inclined  than  drawn  to  paints  and  canvas.

Most  of  Bailey's  relationship  with  her  father  was  through  a  phone  while  he  was  out  traveling  with  whatever  band  he  could  pick  up  with,  either  in  the  country  or  traveling  beyond.  There  were  rare  moments  of  her  father  being  home  for  a  spell  or  him  bring  her  and  her  mother  out  to  where  he  was  for  a  little  visit.  What  was  clear  was  that  he  had  no  real  intention  of  ever  being  domestic,  and  that  happened  to  be  Bailey's  first  true  heartbreak  in  life.  Her  absentee  father.  Though,  he  was  very  strong  in  his  encouragements  with  her  music.  He'd  taught  her  the  basics  of  playing  guitar,  even  bought  Bailey  her  first,  and  then  she  practiced  constantly.

The  difference  between  her  and  her  father  was  that  Bailey  took  everything  a  step  further.  She'd  also  learned  to  play  piano.  By  the  time  she  was  a  tween  she  was  writing  her  own  rough  music  and  composing  songs.  While  her  father  had  been  content  masterfully  playing  and  getting  recognition  for  his  guitar  prowess  through  other's  songs,  that  hadn't  been  enough  for  her.  At  18,  Bailey  ran  toward  New  York  City.  But  it  was  a  lot  harder  than  she  could've  fathomed.  A  ton  of  failure  and  rejection  also  meant  exposure  in  the  ways  she'd  never  wanted.  The  stage  wasn't  a  place  she  wanted  to  be  but  to  get  her  songs  heard  she  had  to  perform.  After  years  of  grinding  it  out,  Bailey  eventually  found  success.

Being  apart  of  the  underground  music  scene  meant  a  lot  of  colorful  characters,  and  she'd  find  a  couple  more  heartbreaks  in  her  young  life  there.  A  bad  roommate  that  took  advantage  of  her  sheltered  innocence,  a  friend  and  fellow  aspiring  songwriter  who  would  steal  her  hard  work  and  claim  it  as  their  own,  but  nothing  compared  to  the  depths  of  hell  that  came  along  with  falling  for  a  secret  addict.  The  relationship  with  her  ex  had  been  full  of  ups  and  downs,  extreme  highs  and  lows  at  points,  and  tested  her  in  nearly  every  way  possible.  When  the  third  rehab  attempt  hadn't  worked  that  was  when  Bailey  finally  quit,  realized  that  no  matter  how  much  she  loved  they  would  always  love  something  else  more.

That  wasn't  the  worst  of  it,  though.  Once  again,  the  biggest  heartbreak  of  her  life  would  be  her  father.  Bailey  following  in  his  footsteps  had  been  something  to  be  proud  of.  There  were  times  he  even  called  in  favors,  connected  her  with  people  that  could  help  hone  her  talents,  and  put  in  word  for  her  where  it  really  counted.  It  was  just  the  more  success  she  found,  her  songs  featuring  on  major  artist's  records  and  some  of  them  even  being  hits  on  radio,  the  more  envy  would  turn  their  relationship  ugly.  Eventually  calls  would  stop  coming,  record  execs  and  artists  would  pass  on  her  work,  and  Bailey  would  find  out  it  was  her  father  was  turning  them  all  against  her.
