Michèle Morgan, 1944, French actress who fled to the US when the Nazis invaded France in 1940. She was a highly regarded film actress in her native country, but Hollywood was unsure what to do with her. Perhaps her strongest part in American films was in Passage to Marseilles (1944) as Humphrey Bogartâs wife. At warâs end she returned to France and resumed her career there.Â
Iâd argue sheâs even better in Joan of Paris (1942) opposite Paul Henreid.
