maybe you scurry, or watch, or search, or grab onto what you can with tiny hands. you can feel like people have a tendency to take themselves too seriously, not everything has to be a high art. you're not one to deny yourself simple pleasures, and if those simple pleasures are gathering knickknacks and pins and buttons and that one cool rock you found on the ground the other day, so be it.

she  could  tell  he  was  new,  she’d  been  in  this  line  of  work  for  a  while  -  seen  people  come    &    go.  picked  up  on  how  they  worked,  acted.  it’d  become  easy  to  her  at  times,  not  to  mention  she  always  did  background  checks  on  those  who  she  was  hiring.  call  it  a  safety  protocol.  juliette  raises  an  eyebrow  at  the  new  comer,  head  titled  to  the  side  slightly  as  she  shifted  the  board  in  her  hand.      ❝    what  brought  you  here  then?      ❞    she  questions,  now  that  she  didn’t  know.      ❝      either  way,  it’s  reasonable  to  be  nervous.  i  know  i  was  my  first  time  .  .  .  fuck,  i  still  get  nervous  sometimes.  it’ll  be  alright  though.    ❞      she   gives   him   a   smile.   it  was  an  odd  way  of  comforting  him,  but  it  was  the  best  she  could  offer  him.

“ little bit of both? ”  voice cracks lightly as red laughs  ,  head tilting down as she realizes how unconvincing she probably sounds.  small sigh is left out as she lets max lead the way  ,  her arm extanding just for a moment as she slowly moves away from the wall and follows him  ,  gaze fixed on his figure like he’s the sun and she’s the planets spinning around  ,  and losing sight of him would turn her universe dark and cold once again.  trail of though breaks as she registers his voice  ,  and she’s suddenly aware they’re standing before the door.  “ oh my god you’re insufferable. ”  she remarks  ,  squinted eyes rolling as if she’s actually annoyed by max’s antics.  jacket is already half way off as she steps inside.  “ i’m starting to think you want to know how it ends. ”  she keeps teasing  —  because two can play the game and if max finds it funny she might as well give it a try at doing things his way.  next remark is blocked by his lips meeting hers  ,  not that red minds.  “ oh  ,  we’re about to be the cutest  ,  believe me. ”  she declares  ,  head tilted up in faux defiance as she kicks off her shoes as well  ,  not really caring which part of the floor they end  —  probably nearby the jacket.  looping one arm around max’s neck  ,  she gives herself a little push so that her legs are wrapped around his waist.  once she’s adjusted her other arm raises so she can reach max’s hair.  “ see?  climbed you just fine. ”  comes her tease  ,  small grin on her lips as she leans closer to give max another kiss.  “ are you gonna consider this too as pressuring you into kissing me or…? ”

      *    𝚂𝙰𝙼  𝙸𝚂  𝚀𝚄𝙸𝙴𝚃  𝙵𝙾𝚁  𝚃𝙷𝙴  𝙼𝙾𝙼𝙴𝙽𝚃.   all he can focus on is the way the trees seem to curl over the two.   -  -  -   as if the branches are going to lean down and engulf them.   ❝  it’ll be fast,  ❞   he speaks,  and he finds himself wanting to say the words  i promise,  but he does not.  HE CANNOT.    (   not because he doesn’t want to, but because he 𝖗𝖊𝖋𝖚𝖘𝖊𝖘 to make promises that 𝚑𝚎 𝚌𝚊𝚗'𝚝 𝚔𝚎𝚎𝚙.   )    ❝  we just  [  .  .  .  ]  we have to find the scarecrow.  ❞   the brunette is certain that the other must have a confused expression upon his features;   with back turned towards Max, he cannot check for himself.   ❝  I’ll explain after.  ❞

    Cursing  herself,  because  he  was  one  of  the  few  she  had  been  weak  around. “- Max,”  His  name  comes  out  in  a  weak  tremor;  she  was  so  tired-  &  the  deep  set  circles  that  raged  beneath  her  eyes  gave  that  away.  Two  days  in,  and  she’d  already  gotten  herself  new  battle  scars.  Faith  was  more  than  capable,  but  that  didn’t  mean  the  world  didn’t  try  it’s  best  to  rip  her  to  shreds.  “I  don’t  know  how  to  do  this,”  To  be  with  other  people,  to  not  look  at  the  group,  and see  where  she’d  gone  all  wrong.  This  world  had  turned  everything  so  cold,  and  she  was  a  wildfire,  spreading  through  a  drought. 

“I  don’t  hate  you,”  She  thinks  this  is  important  to  state.  If  there  was  someone  to  blame  for  her  leaving,  it  wasn’t  him.  “You  know  I  can’t  go  back.”  Things  had  fallen  apart,  gotten  severely  fucked  up  and  in  her  core  she  knew  she  was  to  blame.
