Little or no budget quality hiring

A few blogs ago I wrote about recruiting on a budget, I mentor 500startups portfolio of companies and the first batch all have the same issues as any startup in the tech space. Hiring engineering talent to a small startup with no brand awareness.

I gave a talk to about 20 startups in SF. All these startups are on a 3 month accelerator program, by the second month they should be fixing up funding…

First few hires…

1)      Utilize your mentors, VC’s and your network to get referrals – referrals are still by far the best way to recruit.

2)      Are you listed on angel list – if so, post your job. You will get applications, a lot from junior candidates, but a few gems come your way. You will get a clear indication whether someone is actively looking or not but again it may not be the best talent pool. There…

For those of you who are about to quit your job, I salute you.  

As a recruiter, I spend countless hours consulting with candidates and HR teams - trying to connect the dots.  For those of you who enjoy the hiring grind (name drop!) and find yourself settling for a job because of the work you put in trying to walk in the company, I'd suggest glancing over this article.

Is it too much to send a rejection email? Is the corporate world still stuck on the mantra of 'giving bad news on Friday to avoid incidents throughout the week'? We've all been there, waiting for a reply to a position we interviewed for (regardless of position or salary base or company).

Having spent countless hours wondering about interviews that led to nothing, I can firmly state that it takes less than a minute to send an email with a reason for not hiring candidates that made it to any interview after the initial.

Dropbox has implemented this rule for quite some time, its actually a hashing process.  Basically, files (passwords, files or rather most of anything encoded on the internet) get encoded with a unique code (or hashed) when inputted into the folders (in Dropbox) and if these unique codes (or hashes) meet the requirements found in the "banned" list, they are forbidden from being shared.
