Cassava (also known as yuca or manioc) was first domesticated by the ancestors of indigenous groups in the Rondonia region of western Brazil, over millennia. From South America, it spread to the world, from West Africa to Polynesia, helping feed millions and becoming ingrained into local cultures. This blog salutes the manioc ― and, through it, the ingenuity, laboriousness, and generosity of Native South Americans.
