"you'd make such a cute couple," your friend says with a grin.
the air feels less thick now that bunny had gone to the bathroom, the empty space beside you now offering more of it to breathe with ease. you lift your eyes from your tea cup, a little worried when you catch that mischevious glint in her eyes.
"w-what?" you try to take a sip of tea to soothe your dried throat, the image of you and your weird friend bunny being anything but platonic sending shivers down your spine.
she giggles, wiggling her brows with a tease. "oh, don't act so coy. the way he looks at you, you'd think he thought you hung the moon and stars."
you scoff and shift your eyes away, "don't be silly..."
you're not sure if that's even the right phrase to describe how bunny looks at you, since sometimes you feel more like you're about to be prey rather than be praised.
"i'm just saying," she shrugs and eyes the empty seat next to you, the image of you without him at your side looking incomplete. "he's kind, polite, handsomeâhim playing professional football is just another bonus. he's a good guy!"
"a good guy, huh..." you mutter with doubt behind your teeth. she wasn't wrong about the first part, bunny was quite the gentleman... but you're not sure if that other label is just as fitting.
"you've never given it a thought?" she asks.
"given 'what' a thought?"
a soft voice disrupts your conversation rather courteously. bunny is back, your thoughts too loud for you to hear him coming back from behind you and you jump at his sudden appearance.
"christâ" you choke, flinching. "don't scare me like that."
he gives a soft chuckle that sings along with your friend's, both of them humored at your skittish antics.
bunny situates himself back in his chair, an arm going to rest on the back of your own chair as though to cage you in within himself, the scent of his cologne overtaking the smell of your food. automatically, he turns to you, as though to wait for your words.
you feel his eyes burn into you, waiting for you to make a move.
"... what?" you ask a little too harshly.
he smiles, though it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "nothing."
"okay, well... then don't look at me like that," you murmur, trying to shift your chair away from him to grant you some breathing space.
it resists against your moves. when you look down, you see bunny's foot anchored around one of its leg, rooting you in place next to him, near him. you look up at him and see he still has that signature amiable smile, unaffected by your indifference.
your friend giggles a little unceremoniously, sighing in lovesick bliss at the sight before her, ignorant to the hidden whims bunny has that only you can pick up.
"you guys are so cute," she says warmly.
