âCrazy Dionâ Diamond at one of his sit-ins as a teenager in Arlington, VA. June 10, 1960
via reddit
All of those people around him are demons
hey guys! hereâs some fun things i learned from this article about Dion Diamond:
he did these sit-ins by himself. like idk about you, but i always thought of sit-ins as organized by groups, what kind of bravery does it take, man
he didnât tell anyone about it, like he was no glory-seeker about this. his parents didnât even know until reporters started calling them up like âhey, did you know your son is in jail?
when someone called the cops heâd skedaddle out the back door although he was sent to prison multiple times
the last time he got arrested was in Baton Rouge, and the cops were so sick of him that they told inmates theyâd put in a good word for anyone who gave Diamond a hard time. (the inmates didnât take the bait.)
heâs still alive!
hark, a hero of our times!
That is unbelievable courage!
Your blog fails to make me smile :) I love you!
did you forget the word never or is this a hate messageÂ

THIS IS SO IMPORTANT
Reblogging because I care about you guys
Important
Rohypnol has an INCREDIBLY salty taste to it. Itâs disgusting. And it also isnât a drug that acts immediately! The minute you notice the salty taste, you have about 5-10 minutes to get somewhere safe or call an ambulance, and it CAN be fought if youâre aware of it. It will make you woozy, it will make you so dizzy you canât stand upright, it will certainly make you unable to walk properly, but if you struggle to remain conscious you can get about 20 extra minutes of consciousness from the drug before it will knock you out completely. If youâre in a public place, and the person who drugged you is trying to take you somewhere private, start. a. fight. Insist as LOUDLY and as VIOLENTLY as you can that you refuse to go anywhere with them. Odds are theyâre trying to make as little of a scene as possible as they drag you away, and if youâre putting up a fight and very clearly âdrunkâ, eyes will turn on them and theyâll either need to let you go, or cause a serious scene, which they donât want. Donât just act like youâre just protesting being taken home, though. Fight like your life depends on it even if they arenât assaulting you. Cause. A. Scene. Thatâs the last thing they want.Â
Everyone should reblog this!
Very useful.

Today I learned about a couple that decided to rebuild their deserted piece of land of 600 hectares in AimorĂŠs, Brazil. They planted more than 2 million tree saplings. As a result, the site has 293 plant species, 172 bird species and 33 animal species, some of which were on the verge of extinction. It only took 18 years!
In the early 1990s, Brazilian photo-journalist SebastiĂŁo Ribeiro Salgado was stationed in Rwanda to cover the horrific accounts of Rwanda genocide. The on-ground experience left him traumatised. In 1994, he was returning to his home in Minas Gerais, Brazil, with a heavy heart, hoping to find solace in the lap of a lush green forest, where he had grown up.
But, instead, he found dusty, barren land for miles and miles, in place of the forest. In only a few years, his beautiful hometown underwent rampant deforestation, leaving it fallow and devoid of all the wildlife. For him, everything was destroyed. âThe land was as sick as I was. Only about 0.5% of the land was covered in trees,â he shared in an interview with The Guardian. Salgado was shattered.
Saldagoâs Wife Wanted to Recreate The Forest
It was at this time that Salgadoâs wife LĂŠlia made a near-impossible proposal. She expressed her wish to replant the entire forest. Salgado supported her idea, and together the couple set out on a heroic mission. Brazil Photographer Forest
Salgado bought an abandoned cattle ranch from his parents and started building a network of enthusiastic volunteers and partners who would fund and sustain their mammoth project. In 1998, the couple founded Instituto Terra â the organisation which tirelessly worked to bring a forest back to life.
PNHR BulcĂŁo Farm | by Weverson Rocio â 2012
Salgado sowed the first seed in December 1999. The couple hired around 24 workers in the beginning and was later joined by numerous volunteers over the years. They worked day and night â from uprooting the invasive weeds to planting new seedlings. Soon, their hard work bore fruit as tropical trees native to the region started flourishing in the area. They received a donation of over one lakh saplings which gave rise to a dense forest. The handcrafted forest comprises mostly of local arboreal and shrub varieties. Latest satellite imagery revealed how a soothing green forest cover has enveloped the area which once was a devastating arid eyesore.Since 1998, they have planted more than 2 million saplings of 293 species of trees and rejuvenated 1,502 acres of tropical forest. The biodiversity-rich zone has recently been declared as a Private Natural Heritage Reserve (PNHR).
The Impact of Salgadoâs Forest
The afforestation project, which is undoubtedly one of the greatest environmental initiatives in the world, has also helped to control soil erosion and revived the natural springs in the area. Eight water springs which once dried up, flow at around 20 litres per minute at present, relieving the drought-prone region of its woes. Salgadoâs forest also happens to solve the much-debated notion about climate change, proving that the trend can be reversed if tried. His forest has resulted in causing more rainfall to the area and cooler weather, bringing a drastic and desirable change in the climate.
Instituto Terraâs Fauna | by Leonardo Merçon â 2012
The most important positive aspect of the forest till now has to be the return of the lost fauna. More than 172 species of birds, 33 species of mammals, 15 species of amphibians and reptiles have been spotted in the forest interiors, something which was beyond imagination two decades ago. Many of the plant and animal species in his forest actually feature on the endangered list.
Efforts For Good
Climate change is a harsh reality. Mankind is bearing the brunt of the relentless destruction they inflicted on the planet. Yet, people like Salgado and LĂŠlia fill us with hope, proving that patience and persistence can be our keys to heal the wounds of nature. If two people can create a 1502-acre forest in just 20 years, then imagine how much can be done if everyone comes together to protect the environment. It must be reminded that for every tree we plant, we are adding 118 kgs of oxygen to the air every year, and reducing the carbon footprint by 22 kgs.
Efforts For Good urges all the readers to actively engage in planting trees and gradually turn this into a fixed habit.

âEveryone you meet always asks if you have a career, are married or own a house; as if life was some kind of grocery list. But nobody ever asks if you are happy.â
â Heath Ledger
Heartbreaking scene from the film
Schindlerâs List (1993)
OK LEMME TELL YOU STRAIGHT UP ABOUT OSKAR SCHINDLER. Â Everyone knows the story, right? His protected workers? Â How none of his ammo worked? Â The full story is a lot more complex and a hell of a lot more breathtaking.
He wasnât a saint. in fact, he was a bit of a douche, all things considered. Whored around on his wife, worked for the Abwehr, he was a member of the nazi party - not a particularly devout follower, but because he was a big fat remora fish who realised this particular shark could give him business opportunities, and if he wined and dined the upper crust that scored him even better ones. Â He realised very quickly he could make an absolute killing on the black market and dove in headfirst with the profiteering. Â Hell, he initially hired Jews in his factory because nazi strictures made them much much cheaper labour than hiring normal Polish labourers. Â
But the thing is, once you start surrounding yourself with a particular, persecuted demographic, you begin to notice things. Â You hear things, things you arenât insulated from. Â You begin to realise something.
And Oskar Schindler began to dimly grasp what was happening and he realised that it was not something he could countenance.  And his whole gameplay changed. He no longer wined and dined for business opportunities, but to protect his workers.  He went flat out fucking balls to the wall to rescue a group of his workers from the jaws of Auschwitz, and built them a âcampâ that offered at least the barest of human comforts, right under SS supervision.  He moved his entire fucking factory to save his workers, he realised an SS-provided list of names was left with blank spaces and just started filling in more.  He blew everything he had made profiteering and scheming to protect 1200 people because he found that there was a fucking line and it had to be drawn. He arranged for three thousand Jewish women to be moved to textile factories in the Sudetenland to give them a chance of surviving the war.  He blew all his money, resources and time on feeding, caring for and trying to protect as many Jews as he could.
After the war he failed every business venture he tried. Â He became a raging alcoholic, surviving on donations sent by Schindlerjuden. Â According to some, he traded the ring gifted to him by his workers for Schnapps. Â He died in relative obscurity, almost penniless.
He wasnât a great man, or a saint. He was an average schmuck, and spent most of his time fucking around until he abruptly found himself in a situation where he couldnât.  He almost stumbled into his decency.  But once he had, he absolutely took hold of it,  and directly because of him 8,500 people are alive today.
Never, ever doubt the ability of a single human to RISE.
This guy is Giorgio Perlasca.
He started out a fascist. Right from the beginning. He fought in East Africa during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, and in the Spanish Civil War. He was awarded a diplomatic mission from fucking Francisco Franco.
Then, he starts noticing things he doesnât like. He doesnât like how close to Nazis theyâre getting. And then, in 1938, racial laws against Jewish people are passed in Italy and that is when he realizes that fascism is a pile of shit, and that he fucked up, but at that point heâs in too deep. He had a duty to his country, he thought, and worked to aid the army. What else could he do?
As it turns out, a lot.
On 8 September 1943, Italy surrenders to the Allied forces. Italians had to choose whether to join the fascist Italian Social Republic or side with the Allies. He chooses the latter and, due to his status as a veteran in the Spanish Civil War, he obtains political asylum at the Spanish Embassy in Budapest, changing his name in âJorgeâ.
That could have been the end of it for him. He could have stayed safe and comfortable until the end of the war. He did not.
Perlasca worked with the Spanish ChargĂŠ d'Affaires, Ăngel Sanz Briz, and other diplomats of neutral states to smuggle Jews out of Hungary. The system he devised consisted of furnishing âprotection cardsâ which placed Jews under the guardianship of various neutral states. He helped Jews find refuge in protected houses under the control of various embassies, which had extraterritorial conventions that gave them an equivalent to sovereignty. They could provide asylum for Jews.
When Sanz Briz was removed from Hungary to Switzerland in November 1944, he invited Perlasca to accompany him to safety. However, Perlasca chose to remain in Hungary. The Hungarian government ordered the Spanish Embassy building and the extraterritorial houses where the Jews took refuge to be cleared out. Perlasca immediately made the false announcement that Sanz Briz was due to return from a short leave, and that he had been appointed his deputy for the meantime.Â
Throughout the winter, Perlasca was active in hiding, shielding and feeding thousands of Jews in Budapest. He continued issuing safe conduct passes (initiated by Sanz Briz), on the basis of a Spanish law passed in 1924 that granted citizenship to Jews of Sephardic origin (descendants of Iberian Jews expelled from Spain in the late 15th century).Â
In December 1944, Perlasca rescued two boys from being herded onto a freight train in defiance of a German lieutenant colonel on the scene. The Swedish diplomat-rescuer Raoul Wallenberg, also present there, later told Perlasca that the officer who had challenged him was Adolf Eichmann. During 45 days period from 1 December 1944 to 16 January 1945, Perlasca helped save more than 5,000 Jews.
After the war, he returned to Italy and lived a quiet life. He told no one what had had done in Hungary - not even to his wife, who got the shock of her life when a group of Hungarian Jews finally found him in 1987, only five years before his death. When asked why heâd done what he did he just answered -Â âWhat would you have done in my place?â
He started out a fascist. He became of one the Righteous Among the Nations.
You donât have to be a saint. You may have been on the wrong side. You may have made choices that are bad and stupid and just plain wrong. You donât necessarily have to even be that good a person. But sometimes it comes down to one choice and one choice only and sometimes, despite everything, you just do the right thing.Â
They are called the Righteous for a reason. Not because they were saints (most werenât), but because they were able to see wrong in the world where others looked past it, and not only refused to be party to it, but opposed it with their lives. We are all capable of Righteousness. Â
