Oh yes, that is true actually and we have both remarked on that before! If not quite for kicking prowess it was still mutual admiration of each other's shared skills that first brought us together… we are also both artists, you see!

Oh goodness yes, too many really (which is why Rarity was always my favorite pony, even though I'll maintain that Applejack is Best Pony)

I suppose one of the most standout examples though was from one of the first episodes I ever saw, and the one that really made me a fan of MLP, "Suited For Success". In that episode Rarity is torn between pleasing her friends' tastes with the dresses she is designing for them and doing what she knows actually works best as an artist, and it really just drives home what a fine line that is that you need to walk when you're a professional artist. So very relatable!!

Ahaha, it is so funny that you ask this because I was legitimately just talking to a friend about this very thing the other day!
