Booked: International Marketplace part deux
Client: International Market Place Call time: 7:30 a.m. Location: International Market Place, Waikiki
Today marks a one year anniversary of Waikiki’s International Market Place, which re-opened its doors in 2016. Popular high-end shops usher in a new era for the historic market place where vendors once gathered to feature souvenirs and oddities. I reprise my role with Premier’s Courtney Coleman before she heads off to Tokyo to take the world by storm as the next Miss International!
👋🏼Meet HYS Alum: Brandon Marc T. Higa👋🏼 We're celebrating #windswednesday with this former YS1 clarinet player. If you're wondering what Brandon does, you really should be wondering what he DOESN'T...
Classical music was a big part of my life growing up. Before I discovered the joys of modeling and acting, I spent about six hours a day practicing my clarinet and was obsessed with getting the perfect tone. Music opened up my perspective to the different ways artists express themselves from other parts of the world.
Booked: Brand USA & Hilton’s National Campaign
Brand USA’s coming to town and it’s time to get down to business. I can think of few opportunities more exciting than the chance to show off Hawaii as a travel destination for vacationers around the globe. Needless to say, I’m signed on and fully committed to my next gig working with Brand USA and Hilton to highlight why Hawaii is truly #1 in the world.
We’ll reveal the next group of 10 on Wednesday.
Counting my blessings to join the ranks of Pacific Business News 40 Under 40. Several business professionals who I met on set for various commercial clients are among the prominent alumni of PBN 40 Under 40. Their guidance and continued success inspire me.
Feels amazing to see my name on this year’s list and I can’t wait to meet the other 39 movers and shakers later this month.

Directed by Alexander Bocchieri. With Peter Shinkoda, Arlene Newman-Van Asperen, Chris Tashima, Cole Horibe. Go For Broke - a 442 Origins Story, follows a group of University of Hawaii ROTC students during the tumultuous year after the attack on Pearl Harbor, as they navigate wartime Hawaii and fight discrimination. In the dark days following December 7th, these Americans of Japanese ancestry form the Varsity Victory Volunteers (VVV), fighting to defend their beloved Hawaii and get back their right to ...
Go For Broke (Stacey Hayashi, Executive Producer) is wrapping up its final days of filming by reenacting an iconic moment in American Japanese history. The production team had no easy feat in closing down South King Street, a major road in downtown Honolulu, and getting approved to film at the historic Iolani Palace.
“The scene takes place in March 1943, when 2,686 Japanese-American soldiers of the newly formed 442nd Regimental Combat Team marched down King Street and were bid aloha by 17,000 well-wishers.”
As a sansei, it’s been a real honor to portray real-life soldier Shadow Hirai and to learn about his fight to represent the United States during World War II. Truly inspiring.
‘Go For Broke’ Concept Trailer 2
“Rarely has a nation been so well served by people it had so ill treated.” -- President Bill Clinton.
‘Go For Broke’ Concept Trailer Released
The concept trailer for Stacey Hayashi’s “Go For Broke” miniseries about the 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team was just released. The story recounts the experiences of a group of Japanese Americans who fought in World War II, and became the most decorated unit in U.S. military history.
Booked: International Marketplace Campaign
Client: International Market Place Call time: 10:45 a.m. Location: International Market Place, Waikiki
Waikiki’s International Market Place re-opened its doors in 2016 to welcome a new era for the historic market place where vendors once gathered to feature souvenirs and oddities, such as the monkey carved out of a whole coconut. The developers honored their promise to preserve the famous banyan tree which continues to overlook the center of the two-story mall lined with luxury boutiques and restaurants. Yet another great commercial shoot spent exploring a hot and new re-development of a historic place on Oahu.

Booked: Polynesian Cultural Center Campaign
Client: Polynesian Cultural Center Call time: 7:00 a.m. Location: Laie, Oahu Island
Life doesn’t get more peachy keen than a day trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Thanks to Premier, I was able to mix business with pleasure with my wifey for the day, the immensely beautiful Stephanie Wang. The PCC recently launched its food trucks section in the newly built section in front of the park, as well as a major face lift to the landscaping on campus. It’s well worth the hour-long drive to town for this gorgeous escape from the urban sprawl.
Skills I learned on the job: cracking open and husking a coconut, spear tossing, paddling a canoe.
Desserts I ate for the photo shoot: triple scoops of ice cream, shaved ice, coconut reduction.
