•Back during prehistory humans + all living creatures gain their capacity to feel love (of all kinds) from 'Love', basically a naturally occurring cloud/gas/miasma made of pure magic + emotion. Love later crystallises into a human (god) form due to humanitys perception and worship of love as a god. (Basically how all gods work in this universe.)

During humanitys earliest days they were pretty reliant on 'Love' to give them the capacity to experience it but humanity (+other species ofc) has absorbed enough of it by now that they have the capacity to feel love naturally.

Basically cupids used to be integral to humans ability to love but aren't necessarily needed any more. There's no real divine plan at play either.

•Charm abilities are something humans can spontaneously develop, usually if they have a higher than average concentration of love magic within their blood. People who have a strong desire to be loved may develop charm magic.

•while 'Love' may take the form of a Goddess, the miasma version still floats around the place, though it's mostly harmless and hard to encounter.

•When someone experiences severe heartbreak, and their heart shatters though, this miasma form of love, if nearby, can suddenly flow into them, causing them to mutate into cupid-like beings.

•Due to above reasons, the people who become cupids tend to be those who feel very VERY strong emotion, for better or worse.
