Bts for the 5th episode of BE gives us a better look at Juwon's emotional reactions during the iconic scene (in the drama, the angle and close-ups obscure it a bit). Juwon is bursting with emotions and almost cries so he has to wipe his face (before asking Dongsik to tell him the truth) and to take a really deep breath (when Dongsik doesn't).

Look at what Dongsik and Juwon are wearing before finding Minjung's fingers early in the morning:

Juwon is so shaken, he goes home and gets drunk while wearing the same clothes:

But after being called back to Munju, he gets a grip, changes his clothes and makes his hair look neater (it's still the same day):

Look at Dongsik, though! He still wears the same clothes and his facial hair grew more noticeable (his hair also got longer but we are supposed to ignore that). While it makes sense for Dongsik to wear the same clothes throughout the same day, the difference with Juwon is telling.

Juwon's "not changing clothes" moment happens when he has his panic attack:

He confronts Dongsik, flees, and spends the entire night in his car:

In the morning, he gives a presscon in the same clothes:

And then he drives back to Manyang to confront Dongsik again:

Note that Dongsik did change his clothes. But Juwon's upheaval is not over so he goes to meet Han Kihwan without changing:

Juwon is 100% committed to looking occasion-appropriate at all times but he also can't resist being 100% extra which makes his homewear completely ridiculous. Well, some of it:

Here's Juwon "working from home" look which is a total overkill but could be forgiven if not for the dedicated shelf of wet wipes situated so close he must be bumping into it every time he gets up from his chair.

Who wears windbreaker to exercise at home? Juwon, that's who! Remember, he gets so sweaty he wipes his face afterwards. One might think taking windbreaker off could have helped prevent that...

OK, this look is technically for the meeting with Han Kihwan but how extra is it? Pants with creases! Tight sweater with minimal detailing that supposedly signals how relaxed and informal it is (it's not).

And here's a comfy look at last! Oversize cardigan over a long-sleeve to show Dongsik how totally relaxed and casual reborn Juwon is.

Finally, pj's! It must be the most uncomfortable pj's ever but they're certainly great for stumbling upon uninvited Dongsik first thing in the morning.

These pj's have a cute white border and are worn with cozy cardigan. That's almost what real people wear at home!

Beyond Evil - Reed Field Challenge

Am I the only one who gets irrationally bothered by Juwon hitting himself with his hand holding a gun during his panic attack? I mean, that's so dangerous! It really shows how out of it Juwon is in the scene.

Sometimes you can really tell why certain choices were made in the drama and still despise them. I mean, why do healing and character development have to mean bland ill-fitting clothes? Look at the Manyang gang:

Everyone is wearing white, biege or something light. This is to create the unity between characters, to symbolize coming spring/ happy future ahead/ healing etc. But. Jihwa in a soft biege cardigan? Jaeyi in cottage core? Dongsik in that flimsy polyester thingy? It's like all of them got their badassery removed. Healed happy people don't need to be badass, I know, but the last time we saw Dongsik, he was sporting a killer leather blazer. The contrast is too strong. As Japanese fandom puts it, "As a result of his character arc, Dongsik turned into an ordinary middle aged man". Which is not a bad thing to be, of course, but still...

I suspect the lighting wasn't cooperating that day and washed everyone out. Maybe that's the real reason the outfits look so underwhelming.

Now let's look at our black sheep Juwon. He is in sneakers (black with white sole) and he went for a smart sporty jacket with a zipper instead of his usual blazer; the trench coat is made from a softer fabric and have sloppy shoulder line. Juwon is still dressed up much more formally than others but his style is less dramatic and sharp than it used to be. Unfortunately, it also means that his new trench doesn't hang on him right:

Compare with the way his pre-time-skip era trench looks from behind:

Sloppy shoulders can be just a fashion choice but the fit around his hips is really unfortunate. Thinner fabric adds to the overall "flimsy" impression.

Here are close-ups of Juwon's other pre-time-skip era trench coats; note dramatic lapels, edgy metallic details, precise shoulder line, and "firm" fabric that creates beautiful smooth planes.

This is Dongsik's living room at the start of the drama, note all the clutter everywhere: piles of books, bags, random glassware etc. Books on the shelfs are mid falling. Green sleeping bag is a finishing touch.

This is the living room after one year skip:

Not only clutter is gone, books are neatly arranged etc, there is even a beautiful plant. Dongsik is no longer sleeping on the coach.

Jaeyi's butcher shop used to have dirty windows and slightly creepy meat display:

Now the windows are clean and feature cute drawings:

The fact that Juwon produces a luxurious shearling coat with a beautiful glossy finish to go dig graves in is so unbelievably hilarious.

Does he associate shearling coats with countryside ("I guess this is what those hicks are wearing when doing rough work")? Was it really necessary to pair the coat with tight turtleneck, tight pants, and tight boots? On the one hand, the ensemble sort of follows Juwon's formula of "dramatic oversized coat + tailored narrow suit" but again, this is for grave digging. Or is it?

I don't know which interpretation I prefer more: Juwon's sincerely dressing like that because he thought it fit the expected dress code or Juwon's mocking the entire endeavor with his ostensibly appropriate but completely over the top outfit.

Most importantly, though, is that Juwon is in his "reborn as Dongsik" phase, so, in a way, country-inspired outfit that copies Dongsik's signature silhouette (cropped/short jacket) is right on brand for him. This is a big reach, as the outfit was probably chosen by the production crew following the simple logic of "as cool as we can get away with" and "old money + country" but I prefer to think otherwise.
