I already tried to make Rachel sprite, put it was SO bad...
So I remade it, and decided to also all a few new words about her as a character (yeah, I know that the last post was pretty nothing burger)
I finally managed to come up with a way to beautifully combine her book and film characters:
Rachel grew up in a wealthy family in the Nest, with her mother and sister, where they were often visited by her uncle, her mother's brother, who was the head of a growing company at the time in Rcorp, which produced replicants.
(i hope you can tell that this is from HER perspective)
As Rachel grew up, she became the ideal corporate employee: smart, efficient, reliable, cunning, cold, calculating, and unquestioning, and she landed a position as her uncle's assistant. Of course, she knew full well that her uncle was trying to up to shady dealings right under the nose of the City Head, so her job became eliminating anyone who tried to poke their nose too far. That person turned out to be Rick Deckard, who was then working for the Replicant Capture Office — Blade Runners.
Yes, I know they weren't called "Blade Runners" in the book, and that name was a catchphrase for the filmmakers, but I like it too, so why should I? So I'll keep it.
At first, their relationship is a simple tactic, but Rachael doesn't know the main secret about herself — she, too, is a replicant, created by her "uncle," who implanted his niece's memories for control. This is revealed later, when she confesses to Deckard that she's begun to develop real feelings for him. He admits he knew everything and played along until he, too, began to develop feelings for her. Rachael is initially terrified that Rick lied, that he might kill her now, exploiting her vulnerability in the form of her feelings for him. And now the corporation wants her head, because she's a direct invitation to the Arbiters and proof of a violation of the Taboo. Caught in a shootout where Richie was wounded in the shoulder, the girl manages to save Rick one last time from another replicant before being picked up by Limbus.
The main plot twist is that "better people" aren't supposed to experience anything, but Rachael experienced love, which makes her imperfect. There's even a line in the book where Deckard says, "An android doesn’t care what happens to any other android. That’s one of the indications we look for." That's the lack of empathy, feeling, and compassion that manifested in Rachael, breaking the Taboo.
AND ALSO, she and McMurphy have a matching ID, where he calls her Princess (Thumb ID).
I highly recommend checking out his catchphrases on my toy house, hehehe.
