the body knows how to run backwards from the sun toward shadows.

hard to kill illusions, so

i build dark empires,

on and on and on and on

rolling eternal.

how unhappy can one person be?

the body knows.

sink deep out of habit,

walk slow on instinct,

dragging feet in the sand.

no lines you wouldn't cross.

i know these murky waters.

i know this gaping maw,

innumerable spirals for teeth,

beyond that, infinite blackness,

the biggest darkest hole--

it's mine.

i'd know it anywhere.

i'll know the next one, too.

because all this body knows is

how to write the same poem,

over and over and over and over

the peach pit soul you hid last time oozed again and went down to the graffiti tracks to sit in the sun for the first time

in a long time

and it split in two, like honeycomb,

mirror shards,

yin and yang,

rapture.

golden, open, bleeding.

cold metal rails melted over everything you didn't know,

and you looked up at the sun until you did.

bleeding kaleidoscope eyes shatter leaky peach pits into fractals spinning out into the cosmos,

nothing.

you and the sun, and it burns, running on empty,

acid bubbles in the throat.
