"It's turning up, I'm burning up, it's taking over"

I've been away for a while, and now that I'm back, I find myself connecting a lot with portraits, feeling deeply drawn to them, so that's what I'll be exploring with my work. And it fits perfectly with this, which was actually the third portrait of this new path. I chose Rumi, first, because I loved the film. KPDH is incredible, right? For Rumi, I didn't want a "happy" or "powerful" expression because the moment I suffered with her was when she says, "Why couldn't you love me? All of me." That line is so sad, so real, and that's why it hits so hard, especially when you understand that kind of pain. I want a bit of that. The portrait is of the moment when she returns to the stadium and reunites with Zoey and Mira, the moment when she truly says "enough." She's not angry, she just wants to see what she can do if she leaves her ties behind.

First commission of my comeback as an illustrator, and I promise it was pure coincidence that it happened at the same time as the comeback of my beloved Pinks

The Last Airbender was the story that made me think, "I want to draw my own stories and maybe one day those stories will help someone like this one did for me" I was about 17, now I'm 33 and no matter what happens, Avatar will always help me find my way back.

The most recent commission, I had a lot of fun making this piece. And I know I always say this, but I like my job as an illustrator, even if I do it occasionally. I've learned that dreams can change a lot, and sometimes you have to let them go to move forward, but some things will always be a part of you ✨
