Ok but…did Horikoshi literally make a dominatrix character and miss the BIGGEST and most OBVIOUS visual gag of the day coat/trench coat when she’s, Y’know, working with children?

I love Ms. Midnight. My only 2 problems with her costume as a costume are the fact that the corset/waist binder gives no support despite looking great, and the handcuff bracelets seem out of place for her…as in, for her to be the one wearing them.

She should have been an example of literal godlike confidence and sexual liberation. But there IS a time and place for everything, and in front of a classroom of teenagers isn’t the time to be in full exposed gear. Even students in universe express discomfort over this.

Horikoshi took all the nuance, class, dignity, and mystery from the dominatrix persona…and then went further and added sideways remarks and gave her “urges” around minors. It’s not even “annoying trope of old mentor being a pervert” bad. Midnight is a part of student counseling services and is otherwise incredibly wise, stable, classy, intelligent and brave. Her blatantly harassing the male students of the school doesn’t feel like a bad trope, it feels like an antithesis to who she otherwise is.

I have not touched markers in YEARS and am decently happy with how this turned out! I unfortunately don’t have my Copic sets anymore (they be dead) so I didn’t have the same blending and shading abilities. But it shows what you can do with a sharpie and a Walmart set!
